There has only been three of them, and the we've-got-all-the-best-players Yanks have won exactly zero of them.

With respect, you don't know what you are talking about. Baseball is arguably the most cerebral sport played. Bit like Chess with bats and balls. Pitchers aim is to outwit the batter with a variation of pitches and the batter has to try and suss out the pitcher. |
By:
And i refer you to my earlier post where i stated that even the best baseball hitters fail two out of every three times they come up to bat. Golfers arent afforded that luxury.

^ Published 2 months ago. This other list has 8 americans and two venezualans http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/top-50-current-best-baseball-players The whole point I am making anyway, is that Baseball is still played by very few countries at a high level, whereas the likes of Golf and Football and Athletics and Tennis are much more global sports and much more competitive, in Baseball the participation level is not comparable, it was even dropped from the Olympics a while ago, considered a fringe sport. I don't think a Baseball player can be compared to a footballer, a Pele or a Maradona or a Messi have had to compete with other footballers from around the world in what is a very saturated sport in regards to participation levels, to excel and stand out in this sport is far far greater than standing out in a sport where the likes of tiny island nations like Puerto Rica and the Domincan Republic are competing in a world final |

Golf is technically the most difficult sport, no other even comes close.
It is also the most honest in that every fault and failing is revealed. |
By:
Any sport were ye have to shift the immobile object yerself is difficult...
By:
Being dropped from the Olympics had nothing to do with it being a 'fringe' sport. It was because MLB wouldn't release the best players during the season.

Similar to Bandy..

A tiny island nation managed to stifle the self-styled best player in the world and his teammates last night.

Baseball is nowt but cricket in caps. Abe Lincoln circa 1860.

I can play Golf to a high level but I wouldn't stand a chance of hitting a pitch thrown by ANY MLB Pitcher.
By:
you cannot play golf to a high level
By:
I'd quite fance a pop...
Just swing as he's approaching the mound innit.. |
By:
Oh well, that's the end of that then. Mystic Meg speaks.
By:
i am certain that you have probably not hit more than 20 true golf shots in your life
By:
I've had 4 holes in 1. Does that count?
By:
no a hole in 1 does not count, the fact you think is does shows you don`t understand
By:
Well you would be wrong then. Ask Lee.

I have to lie down in shock, I've actually nodded and agreed with a lfc post
![]() Sorry mac, but you can't play golf to a high level, if you could you would be a known golfer and making a generous living out of it. |

If you are going to rank sports based on how many people take steps to be as good as they possibly can be at them , then football is miles ahead of anything certainly .
But i doubt anything else is that far ahead of baseball really. America is a country with a 300 million population and , as said , the few other countries that take it seriously are also quite populous. Just because there are good golfers from 50+ countries does not mean that vast numbers of people have actually made a serious effort at it . In most countries it will be only kids of wealthy families that have ever picked up a club. |

By:
Now don't be pompous. Are we reflecting on the Golden Bears annotation?
By:
Another stoopid comment from the wannabee...
I know several cracking golfers who couldn't add up so never made it. Not even to a shop job.. |
By:
If hitting a ball at speed as far as possible, is considered more of a sport than a highly technical sport such as golf, and even tennis which has far more technique, then I give up.
By:
Most professional Baseball players are very good golfers but I can assure you that if you stood any of the top golfers on the plate, they wouldn't be able to even hit the ball.
By:
Just think , in any American school year there will be 2.5M boys , and if just 10% of them try out for the baseball team , get coaching , and stick with it til they realize they are never gonna be that good , then you have 15 million+ people alive who have made some effort at becoming good baseball player.
Are there 15 million people in the world that have made a big effort to be good at golf , or most of the other sports listed in this thread that supposedly have much more participants than baseball ![]() |
By:
You know nothing about Baseball and that's a fact.
By:
That was for SH
By:
no professional baseball players can play golf, and neither can any tennis player, or footballer, or athlete of any kind.
Golf is a uniquely difficult sport, almost nobody can play it |
By:
When you say they are very good golfers mac, they're not, they wouldn't get close to the best ranked amateur.
By:
Baseball is not about just hitting a ball as far as you can
And it's a waste of time trying to explain the game to people who diss it and don't understand or want to understand. |
By:
So a billion folk who join golf clubs can't play the game
![]() |
By:
Rubbish scan, hundreds play in pro am charity events every year.
By:
we all understand that baseball at the highest level is difficult. But that is not the same as saying it is intrinsically difficult.
It is not, everyone can play it pretty well from the youngest to the oldest at a certain level. golf is different, it is difficult in and independent of a persons sporting ability |
By:
almost every member of every golf club cannot play golf
By:
Anyway, you are missing the point and don't understand or want to understand. I would love to give you a bat and get Papellbon to throw a 100mph heater at you. You would sh+t yourself let alone swing the bat.

by that i mean every shot they play, always and in the past and in the future will be wrong

Hey MM, on one of my first trips to one of bonnielands finest courses, i had to have a local caddy. Everything went well until we got to the 1st par 3 and i got a 7 iron out. He tutted and said in highly irritated voice "Driver" I said "WHAT" it's a 60 yds ffs".
After several words were exchanged and i told him to stick to tiddlywinks, he passes me a 5 iron with a certain s****. I nailed it under the 'slight breeze' and it landed perfectly with a wonderful flop to a standstill........... 60 yards from the green! |

160 yds that was

never said they can't play, but are not 'very good', very good golfers are well paid pros', your friends, yourself and the baseball players can only be average at best.
Otherwise I can say I'm very good at football, best sunday league player, what does that mean in practice? I am close to the bottom of the football pyramid, therefore one of the least talented, but the best at my level, like yourself as a golfer, you can play to a standard, but a million miles from the top. Once again though, Golf is a much harder sport to master at the very elite level than Baseball. Goodnight ![]() |

By:
i don`t mean it will be wrong in that it will miss the green, or miss the fairway, or hit the green or fairway..i mean that the shot itself regardless of where it arrives will have not be correct.
No amatuer golfer will really ever hit the golf ball correctly |
