Hey Delta, Re the Cu's, do let me know how you get on. I assume you are under glass?  Don't underestimate how big the whole plant gets and how much support it needs.  Best of luckWink

Annie - glad to see Petit Verdot get a mention! Many of these old (French/Medoc) grape varieties are really good in the New World. If you ever get to Virginia US, they do some mean ones there.   Nicely illustrates a stupid post earlier on this thread that said that grape varieties don't matter - they may not necessarily make a wine good but they can make it interestingWink

I agree with you, blackbarn, that grape varieties matter.

I stick with mainly malbec, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, tannat, and blends of them.  But I am always looking for another grape similar to those. I think there are others but they are more expensive.  I don't mind paying more occasionally, but when you have paid a lot for a bottle and it is not great you feel cheated!  I like full bodied wine.

Lee Ho Fooks - Assuming you mean the Pertaringa Understudy Cab Sav/Petit Verdot? It is available at several wine merchants. Cambridge Wines sell it by mail order as £12 a bottle if you buy a case or £15 a bottle individually. The prices do not included postage.

My local wine merchant in Sussex sometimes stocks it but is out of stock. HicWink

Thanks Blackbarn, that's the one and it's well worth £12 a bottle too. I'll have to see if my local wine merchant is considering stocking it again in the near future.

Regarding the sainsburys petit verdot, when it first came out it was £5.00 and I bought loads. After about a month they quickly put the price up to £6.  I have never seen that done before.

I went in Tesco today as I had a £9 voucher to spend, so I bought 12 bottles of the vineyards malbec, bringing them down to less than £4 a bottle.

While I was there I looked at the ones I had recommended in the thread header and they were back to normal price.  The Wolf Blass Yellow Label was £8 and the Casillero del Diablo cabernet sauvignon was £8 as well!  When you consider I bought the Wolf Blass Yellow Label for about £4.87 and the Casillero Cabernet for £4.12 when the discounts were on it was quite a saving.  I have loads Happy  I only buy when they have discounts.

Again these are decent wines for the price.  Wolf Blass was winery of the year and the cabernet has been described by the daily mail as the best value cabernet in the world.

Obviously you can get better wines, but it helps to have a cheaper one for the usual daily tipple.  I would like more recommendations for a full bodied red wine, please.

I have been trying to buy the petit verdot from Sainsburys but it is out of stock, so if there is any at your local store I would give it a try soon.

Yes, I know I said to stay clear of cheap red, but this Valle Central Chile one goes down very well indeed and doesn't get my stomach in knots.

When: 08 May 16 00:30
It is not a silly excuse.

I have been quite honest and said that I have no wish for my looks, or rather my lack of looks, to be discussed on this forum.  And I think that as men are not required to be inspected on chit chat then you are being sexually discriminating Silly
By:
annie.

Anyway, how do I know that you are 'perfectly respectable', I only have your word.  You could be a serial rapist or killer Happy

Anyway, please do not post on this thread about your stupid ideas, I am sure other poster are heartily sick of it as I am.

This thread is called WINE, perhaps you can't read?
