charwell - glad you enjoyed your Amarone. Of course Amarones are comparable with Barolo if your criteria is simply colour. As for grape "matters not a jot", may I suggest you seriously think about something else to offer advice on.
To suggest that Amarone "knocks Barolo into a cocked hat" is a ridiculous recommendation, particularly given the range of quality in both groups AND more importantly that many people will be surprised at how relatively sweet lots of Amarone is. Mind you, you'll know this of course, but your reader might not . |

Maison Des Prince Sauvignon Blanc Have been drinking a few bottles of this recently - very nice and a bargain at currently £6 per bottle. |

I should add that if you are used to new world Sauv Blancs it is quite a bit different. I find it smoother/earthier.

I finished the cheap £3.38, after discount, bottles a couple of days ago. I will definitely get them again when they get reduced or I have a coupon from tesco, which I have now. They have sent me £9 off a £60 spend so I will stock up again. I found that once I started drinking the cheap bottle, I wanted to drink it every day. Maybe because I knew if I drank one of my more expensive wines I would not like it as much!
Marks and Spencer have one of their 25% of multiples of six bottles again. As I said before it just reduces their wine to what it should be, not a great saving. 'Wotwine' says their wine is overpriced and I agree. However, they have one bargain that is brilliant. I like their malbec Vinalta which usually sells for £8 a bottle but it is currently on offer for two for £12 and then you get the 25% discount on top making it £4.50 a bottle. 'Wotwine' rated this wine at £7.50 a year or so ago and said it was a soft, plummy, full bodied wine and I agree. I bought 12 bottles today and I am just enjoying a glass Even if you don't like wine this is a good value one for dinner parties etc. One thing I do like about marks and spencer wine is that I think their wine would not be adulterated possible as much as other wine. This wine, vinalta, is produced like some others by a collaboration of their experts and small vineyards so you have more faith in the product. |

Thanks, Burton Brewers, I have looked at these sites before and they are very informative but the wines recommended are too expensive for me.

Just a note to say that I don't know when the marks and spencer offer ends. It could be tomorrow.

Malbec is widely planted in Argentina producing a softer, less tannic-driven variety
so drink it! |

I am drinking it at the moment, lmfao, and lovely it is too and much better value than french malbec

I keep looking at that wine, Delta, but usually it is too expensive for me but today I was buying more vinalta and looked at it again. I should have bought some to try out, I do like buying organic anything if is not much more than ordinary.

You came to mind today annie.
I was in Lidl picking up some spuds and when you were talking about Malbec the other night I thought I'd had an Argentinian Malbec last week and very nice it was too but I wasn't totally sure as I'm an occasional red drinker and don't really know what's good or bad and take advice from whatever source. When I was in today I was having a look and it was there again. They have a rating system and it had about 87 out of 100 which is classed as being a very good one and it was five pounds odd. Worth a try I'd say. |

Thanks, ET
![]() I do buy wine from Lidl, but it is a long bus ride away from me. However, I am short of stuff that I like from Lidl, so I will pick up a bottle next time I go. |

By:
Generally speaking I'm a peaty whisky man myself annie but I find Bourbon also very agreeable and Lidl have one that is in many experts opinions indecipherable from Jim Beam and at a much lower cost. If the recent recession brought one good thing to peoples lives it brought the end of snobbery when it came to supermarkets for most people.
Quality gear is quality gear wherever it comes from. |

By:
Agree with you about the Vinalta Malbec, I bought 6 today. £4.50 is a good price but it's not an £8 wine imo
|
|
By:
I agree, Lee, it is almost always the same with marks and spencer wine, not good value. You have to wait for the 25% reduction just to get it at about the right price. I buy some wine from there mainly because you hear such awful stories about what they put into wine and the vinalta and others are made jointly with marks and spencers. But this one was 'double bubble' because it had already been reduced.
When you think that the vinalta at that price is the same as the cheapie 'vineyards malbec' from tesco at £4.50 it looks good. |

RED WINE is good for your gut. Dissolves away Gluten and cleans your intestines. Along with vinegar.

Alcohol is bad for your stomach.
Many indigestion problems are caused by drinking alcohol. Your body produces lactic acid from alcohol, this is cleared by your kidneys. Your kidneys also has to clear uric acid from your food. In some people the combined load on the kidneys results in the uric acid not being cleared sufficiently and gout can be the result. If you drink regularly don't rule out getting gout in later life. |

I was in Sainsburys yesterday and I see that they have reduced one of the few wines I buy from there. It is Winemakers Selection Australian Petit Verdot reduced from £6.00 to £4.75 and with the vouchers I have it will further reduce it to £4.35 approx .
It is an unusual grape and makes a nice change from the malbec, cabernet sauvignon etc that I usually buy. It has good reviews from 'Wotwine' and rave reviews on the Sainsburys website. |

"western gold" is only £12 a bottle if you want to get one in for me annie when I come and visit
