He's not educated and he's no Einstein but I'm not sure how you can be both sharp and thick.
By:
you'd think a white British heavyweight champ would be more popular than this!
By:
Because he's sharp with his thinking in what will make him loads of dosh; ie spouting tosh so he gets load of publicity, hence more money for fights - but thick in his knowledge of the human condition.
And it's no excuse being uneducated or not. |
By:
Yeah because this is great publicity he is getting. Must have only said these things to become more marketable
. |
By:
This is boxing we're talking about, Shrewd-dude.
By:
So? How much publicity did he get when he made these comments on 7th November? Who was even mentioning it other than the Daily Mail who published it? He's got publicity because he won the World Heavyweight Title and got nominated to Spoty. The stuff since has just been negative from mainly professional offended merchants.
By:
Even so, the more people talk about him - even in the negative - is all fuel to the fire of him making massive amounts of money in his future bouts.
He won't be regretting anything at all. Boxing is not a terrestrial sport anymore. Few people who aren't boxing/sports fans would have any idea who he is if it hadn't been for the furore about his comments. I'll bet most people in Britain now know he is the current WHC, whether they want to or not. Very sharp. |
By:
He's got a platform since he won the World Championship. Well, a bigger platform to spout his nonsense - he was coming out with stuff about being able to spot weather a person is taking performance enhancing drugs when they took off their shirt in his presence, in the run up to the Klitschko fight.
By:
I agree with Shrewd's comments. Who knows how many other boxers out there think as he does? Certainly a fair proportion of the populace will share some if not many of his views (excluding the apocalyptic stuff). Now he is the champ people care?
By:
saying he believes in jesus should be enough to drop him from SPOTY
By:
He won't be regretting anything at all because he doesn't care, if he is asked his views he will answer. He's getting publicity because he won the fight. If he hadn't none of this would have come about. If he was simply doing this for money why wouldn't he add further fuel to the fire if it was going to make him more money?
Don't see how he is going to make money from being known by all these people who didn't care about him or his views until they realised he said something they took offense to. Look at Joshua, probably will have the same profile in the UK after tonight's fight all because he's got a big promotion company vetting everything he does and building his image. Will have all the media fawning over him because of this and be far more marketable than Fury, even though he's a convicted drug dealer. |
By:
thick in his knowledge of the human condition.
I don't think most of us would say that is thick though tommy. I doubt there are many on here who could say hand on heart that they arent "thick" at least when it comes to the other 50% of the population. I'd say that if you disapprove of his views more apposite terms would be unenlightened, intransigent, moralistic, judgmental etc etc. |
By:
Good point portman. Should we also retrospectively take away Mo's awards and strip people like Jonathan Edwards of their medals?
![]() |
By:
Well, possibly, EO - but I rather think he's just plain thick!
Albeit, very sharp. |
By:
People are reading far too much into this. He's daft and talks a lot. Anybody thinking there is some machiavellian plan is mistaken.
By:
I think you're trying to get me going here Tommy.

Shrewd-dude, something worth considering is that we're on a sports forum where most of us have a great love of sport.
Out there, in the ordinary world, there is a great mass of people totally uninterested in sport - other than a passing glance of what's 'fashionable'. Anthony Joshua, as great as he is as an up-and-coming fantastic prospect of a future WHC for us who love boxing, will be unknown to the majority of the general public. Tyson Fury will now not be, because of all the negative publicity. And he'll love it. |
By:
haha EO!
By:
If Joshua fulfills his potential I've no doubt he will be a household name Tommy.
By:
Definitely, EO - and hopefully because he'll be the real deal and no nonsense.
By:
'No nonsense' = promotion of gays and abortion??
By:
Nah, just the recognition that he's a true World Heavyweight Champion - and should be celebrated as such.
By:
He's wearing very snug shorts tonight with The Pink Pounder written on the back.
By:
hahahaha!!
By:
..as opposed to the fella who went the distance (and beat) an 11 year reigning World Champ?
By:
Point taken, Injera.
By:
I suppose I'm just showing my preference to a boxer who looks like someone I want to be a WHC.
By:
A convicted drug dealer?
By:
The linear champ no less Injera which counts for quite a bit amongst true fans especially in these days of the alphabet soup of titles. I'm not too interested in what he says in truth. It's like Richard Prior said when he asked Neon Leon what he did and he said, "knock motherfrukers out". Not a bad job description.
If I want wit I'll look for somebody other than a boxer. Even Ali wasn't that witty. |
By:
Well no, Shrewd_dude, just someone who has the physic and true ability of a heavyweight champ.
By:
Again, I'm showing my personal preference.
By:
Haha!! Yes, it's refreshing when someone tells the truth.
Wouldn't it be nice if a footballer said (with a huge grin) 'blimey, I'm getting paid £10m a year for kicking a bag of wind..'. Tommy's also right. It's good to focus on the sport. Sadly the media are quick to overlook Fury's achievements and ridicule him for daring to have an opinion. They would rather praise a long jumper and a lady footballer who I admit, I've never heard of. |
By:
why do u think he has more ability than Fury? I don't.
By:
Weird. Its not a beauty contest.
By:
*physique
Sorry, my computer is in whirring mode and it's very difficult to post at present. Yes, I do think Joshua shows more ability - and yes, I do want a man with a superb physique to be the WHC. It's the same with everything in life: we all have our own preferences. |
By:
Only just seen: Talk of the fight on Radio 5 Extra at the moment until transmission of the fight on R5 at 22:30
By:
maybe bodybuilding's your thing then tommy
By:
He is odds on Joshua but not a complete certainty
Dillian Whyte is undefeated himself.....so hopefully a good fight I prefer them to one sided affairs, |
By:
Haha, no, Freddiek - just an old fashioned notion of 'perfection' in things.
There is nothing more satisfying in the visual world of sport than a great athlete being accompanied by a great body. And that's a fact. We, as human beings, are automatically programmed to admire beauty. In my mind, Joshua outflanks Fury just a tad in those stakes. |
By:
Eubank Jr fight on Radio 5 Extra now.
