Why do people vote for the SNP?
Scottish Parliament been given loads of devolved powers, eg varying tax rates, but these never get used. THen the SNP just whinge to get more devolved powers even though they never use the ones they already have ![]() |

Already bleating about another referendum, they will want one every five years till they get what they want.

..... they should just have the referendum, vote yes, and be done with it. Its going to happen anyway - genie out of the bottle having referendum last year. Drag on for decades, only postponing the inevitable
|
|
By:
Sturgeon desperate to get another referendum now as she knows that the more exposure that that band of numpties get in Westminster the less support she'll have.
She also knows that Corbyn will win back some of the loonies lost to the SNP. Sturgeon making a big thing about austerity yet she had the power to raise extra funds via taxation and failed to use it. That's something that Corbyn is spot on about, the SNP make all the right noises but do feck all. Not that I believe in him but God help us if she ever gets her wish. We'd be another Greece in less than a decade. |

Wallflower ...settle petal ,if the I ref had went their way Scotland would be facing bankruptcy ,salmonomics little white glossy pamphlet full of keek would have seen to that ,(filed away under fantasy horror ). Truly astonishing the lies about the oil and a total lack of a grasp on world economics and basic world affairs. And now it's just a matter of time ,Jesus wept ...

Ah the Ice Cream Wars. Entertaining. Didn't Taggart settle them? The Scots voted for the SNP because they (correctly) figured they would get more out of the English. The Scots wont vote for independence again now that the North Sea has cratered. Wee Nicola should look out for herself - I've no doubt the SNP males will be reasserting the 'natural order' asap.

Is there any difference between disinformation and misinformation? Some plonkers on this thread who obviously get their info from the warped BBC and even more warped mainstream print media.
As for you akabula, you must hold the record for attempts at denigrating your fellow Scots. Every chance you get, it's Sturgeon this, Sturgeon that. Independence IS inevitable. I smell your fear. |

Education standards in Scotland at an all time low.
The police force in Scotland the least effective it's ever been. The oil industry in Scotland in crisis and losing cash hand over fist. Yet Nicola tells us we're in good hands. You know same as me Alias that independence would finish us. It would be back to living off the land. Better Together. |
|
By:
What was the result last time around? Forty-five percent to fifty-five percent, something like that? If another referendum was held next week I'd be willing to place a small wager that the margins would be virtually the same again.

What you smell, Ali Oops - apart from Celtic supporters in your vicinity - is the hot air emerging from Chief Sitting Bullsh1t Salmon's arris ... http://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/politics/indyref-anniversary-independence-the-way-the-wind-is-blowing-says-alex-salmond-1.900847 You really are a MUG Alias. |

That is the point though. The worse the SNP make it for people now, the more chance there is people will vote for change ie. Independence. No surprise the great unwashed in Glasgow voted "Yes" in the last referendum, while the well off in Edinburgh and Aberdeen a resounding "No" |

Wee Burney must actually be secretly happy that they lost the referendum as the Oil
Price has tanked. The SNP will continue to blame Westminster for anything bad and that will also apply after a yes vote. |
|
By:
I was reading some stats on the oil industry yesterday and one stood out.
The SNP predicted yearly oil revenues at £7.9billion. the actual figure will be less than £1billion at £600million. What sickens me about Sturgeon is that she will not let it go. No matter what happens she brings independence into the argument. She is there, along with all the other SMPs to run Scotland. She must learn to separate the election vote from the referendum vote. Scotland voted for the Union with only 38% of the electorate in favour of independence. Sturgeon must stop pandering to the likes of Alias and all the other wee would be Hitlers that tried to force independence on us. |
|
By:
@FredRescue
I actually missed out the crisis in the NHS from that list. And wee Nicky needs to take responsibility and therefore the criticism as all are in our control thanks to devolution. |
|
By:
.........nobody knows what would have happened if Scotland had somehow been independent before North Sea oil. Perhaps not as good economically as Norway (although similarities) - but certainly not part of crushing "national (UK)" debt - one of the arguments in favour of retaining the union was they couldn't service their share of the debt
![]() - and you should stay in such a set-up. Its very very sad really.Anyway, that's not the point, at some stage the Scots will have to have belief in their own nation and their ability to shape their own destiny. Independence is not about the SNP, Labour, Conservatives etc - people continually confuse the two |
|
By:
....nor is at about the economics of 2014, 15 , 16 etc its about 20-30 years down the road. Look at Ireland, don't have the same advantages of Scotland - but can shape their economy as they please - and they do so very successfully (their recent crisis, which they are coming out of, was a banking / regulation crisis - their economy has always been very strong, and is getting stronger again).
Don't think they wish they were part of the UK - besides they have far more influence on a European and global stage than Scotland has, and much investment that could have been secured for Scotland finds it way to Ireland because of this. |
|
By:
Scotland economy was based on deliberately inflated and unrealistic oil revenues.
Every economist predicted black holes of various amounts and this before taking into account our share of the national debt. Your argument for Scotland is an emotional argument and ignores the financial aspects. Thank goodness the vast majority of Scots aren't convinced with this shaping your own economy rubbish. Didn't we do that when Blair was in situ? BETTER TOGETHER. |
|
By:
Since Ireland got independence in the 1920s (against the wishes of the majority) thousands of young people have had to leave and. find work in England . It would not have been able to survice economically as an independent country without this safety valve.

....and yours akabula has no vision whatsoever and keeps Scotland as a regional outpost of a larger entity - if you find that status quo acceptable then fine. But don't expect those who can see a better future to ever agree.
At least the Irish can look the other full nations of the world in the eye. Nothing wrong with emotion either, it is not all about economics either - I'll shed a tear when Scotland takes it seat in the UN ![]() |
|
By:
A regional outpost?
![]() Maybe that's how you see Scotland and shame on you if you do. I see Scotland as one of four countries in a Union. A Union that has served us well for over 300 years. Too much history tying us together to just walk away from it. Proud to be Scottish and Proud to be British. |
|
By:
Shame? Shame on you - we've had this discussion before. British is not a nationality in the true sense - Scottish is. Very debatable if it has served Scotland well in comparison to what could have been.
Still, it will happen - just hope I live to see it ![]() |

There are 267 countries in the world, being generous the average Scot[or Brit]
would be happy to live in less than 10% of them. The inhabitants of the vast majority of the rest of those independent countries would likely love to emigrate to the UK. |
|
By:
British is not a nationality in the true sense
Irrelevant. People take pride in being both Scottish and British irrespective of legalities in the terms. |
