Sturgeon desperate to get another referendum now as she knows that the more exposure that that band of numpties get in Westminster the less support she'll have.
She also knows that Corbyn will win back some of the loonies lost to the SNP.
Sturgeon making a big thing about austerity yet she had the power to raise extra funds via taxation and failed to use it.
That's something that Corbyn is spot on about, the SNP make all the right noises but do feck all.
Not that I believe in him but God help us if she ever gets her wish. We'd be another Greece in less than a decade.

I was reading some stats on the oil industry yesterday and one stood out.
The SNP predicted yearly oil revenues at £7.9billion.
the actual figure will be less than £1billion at £600million.

What sickens me about Sturgeon is that she will not let it go.
No matter what happens she brings independence into the argument.
She is there, along with all the other SMPs to run Scotland.
She must learn to separate the election vote from the referendum vote.
Scotland voted for the Union with only 38% of the electorate in favour of independence.
Sturgeon must stop pandering to the likes of Alias and all the other wee would be Hitlers that tried to force independence on us.

.........nobody knows what would have happened if Scotland had somehow been independent before North Sea oil. Perhaps not as good economically  as Norway (although similarities) - but certainly not part of crushing "national (UK)" debt - one of the arguments in favour of retaining the union was they couldn't service their share of the debt ShockedShocked - and you should stay in such a set-up. Its very very sad really.

Anyway, that's not the point, at some stage the Scots will have to have belief in their own nation and their ability to shape their own destiny.

Independence is not about the SNP, Labour, Conservatives etc - people continually confuse the two
Report Wallflower September 20, 2015 11:05 AM BST
....nor is at about the economics of 2014, 15 , 16 etc its about 20-30 years down the road. Look at Ireland, don't have the same advantages of Scotland - but can shape their economy as they please - and they do so very successfully (their recent crisis, which they are coming out of, was a banking / regulation crisis - their economy has always been very strong, and is getting stronger again).

Don't think they wish they were part of the UKShocked - besides they have far more influence on a European and global stage than Scotland has, and much investment that could have been secured for Scotland finds it way to Ireland because of this.
Report akabula September 20, 2015 11:23 AM BST
Scotland economy was based on deliberately inflated and unrealistic oil revenues.
Every economist predicted black holes of various amounts and this before taking into account our share of the national debt.
Your argument for Scotland is an emotional argument and ignores the financial aspects.
Thank goodness the vast majority of Scots aren't convinced with this shaping your own economy rubbish. Didn't we do that when Blair was in situ?

Wallflower, nationalism is acceptable in some situations - people trying to eject invaders, negate externally imposed settlements.  Otherwise it's verging on the fascist/rascist.  I can see little virtue in the SNP position.  A bunch of fairly talentless people trying to become big fish in a small pond?  What in hell can you do as an independent country that you can't do now?  I recall asking who were the outstanding souls who would lead an independent Scotland to a bright new dawn.  Names there came none.  If 'independence' actually happened, most of the money and most of the talent would come south.  Why?  Because the SNP is socialist party that believes in bribing its electorate with other people's money.  The oil is stuffed for now, and Japanese whiskeys are more highly rated.  As the economy plummets you'll start looking for scapegoats and alienate most of the population.  Eventually you'd turn into something like North Korea - a rich elite (great titles and loads of medals) living on the backs of the starving masses.  Skeletal survivors would swim across the Tweed nightly.  And we'd take them in.

Who says the SNP would be in government?? They might at the start but other politic parties would emerge - probably from Scottish Conservative / Scottish Labour, perhaps new parties. Politics would change drastically and have a new vibrancy in an exciting time.

As Scotland forged its new economic and social identity the old pro- anti- independence stances would be forgotten.

The issue as I said before lack of vision and ambition, an innate fear of the unknown- perhaps a national characteristicSad. Depressing and embarrassing really - how many "countries" vote to in effect not be a country? Please don't say its a union, just call it what it is, one country dominance over another.
