Good presenter. Whether he is an especially nice human being is open to question, but there is no denying Clarkson is one of the better presenters on the box.

I made the Savile comparison 3 days back....he seems to be untouchable when he breaks the law just like Savile.

Amazing how people can be obsessed with "celebrity" to the point of defending clarkson despite him having a previous reputation as an arrogant bully.
If this obnoxious buffoon was a an ordinary bloke in the town, thugs like him that did not want to ignore him, would be giving him grief regularly. Kind of sums up the drop in standards we now see, when so many will fight to re-instate a guy that would be hugely despised in any ordinary community. |

Like others before him at the BBC, Clarkson thought he had become indispensable, he hasn't & at the end of the day he will be sacked, walk away whatever you want to call it because now the BBC cannot be seen to indulge a total pr!ck such as this, he may be a brilliant presenter but in the current murky waters he has to go, what amazes me is he never realised that in 2015 he needed to reign himself in & if for that reason only he a friggin idiot & deserves to go.

Yes, Clarkson should go if (and it is a big if) the allegations are upheld but why the BBC overreacted by pulling the rest of the series is beyond me, and seems to show the BBC top brass is completely out of touch with the real world. In any normal company, the person complained about might be suspended but no company would shut down an entire building site or supermarket or whatever is the right analogy. For a start, it would be too expensive, as the BBC is about to find out when it has to pay compensation to all the foreign TV stations who have (a) paid for Top Gear, and (b) now must pay for a replacement programme, and (c) may lose advertising revenue when petrolheads don't tune in for said replacement.
If Clarkson were ill, they'd carry on without him, and that is what should have happened here. |

Whatever your views of Clarkson, the way the BBC have handled this is laughable. And if the Mails headline is truly a quote from a senior head at the BBC then he needs sacking immediately, and Clarkson needs to throw the full weight of the law behind a lawsuit.

If the reports are anywhere near the truth then I can't possibly see a way back for Clarkson. Calling someone a 'lazy irish c***' and then smacking them one hard enough to require hospital treatment, is gross misconduct in anyone's book and instant dismissal. He'll be given 2 options - resign or be sacked. He'll resign. Top Gear will hopefully continue in a new format. It's pretty good light entertainment and has millions of fans. |

you don't see anywhere near the number of open comments on those sort of stories if any at all!!! but mention farage or clarkson and the paper and on line sight is covered with stories and open comments - five when I last looked!!! |

So no one thinks this has all been pretty much a set up by Clarkson and his 'management'? Seems blindingly obvious to me what has happened - contracts up at end of series (for all i think), he knows there is a demand for his services so creates a storm (no publicity is bad publicity after all) 'Oooh aren't i great and popular but unloved by my employers COME AND GET ME BIG BOYS'. He seems to have most fooled though........

good riddance to Clarkson, nobody should be able to get away with assualting and insulting a colleague like that. Nobody is irreplaceable, no reason why someone else can't come in and do a better job, and you should never assume otherwise. Who gives a stuff about the lost revenues to the BBC, it's not as if they ever reduce the cost of a TV licence

Some other tv company will take Clarkson on if he does get sacked, already talk of something in America.
Top Gear finished if that happens as his two pals will go with him. Result increase in the licence fee to cover the gap this loss of income will cause but the pc brigade on here will be happy to pay the extra. |

And yet Clarkson is going to ignore all those 'million' and resign? My - it's a win win for everyone concerned - he's the martyr sacrificing himself for his and the bbc's 'integrity' (expect the words 'too much respect for the bbc' in his statement). The bbc has the perfect excuse for getting rid and starting anew whilst still raking it in from the old 'Top Gear' for a number of years and this nonsense won't hinder that! The only losers i can see are tweedledum and tweedeldee who won't be going anywhere with Clarkson - other than maybe to iron his undercrackers!

A million signatures when so many cant be bothered to sign it is a hell of a statement when the Ched Evans petition was lauded all over the BBC and Guardian for its numbers. A massive own goal by the BBC management who couldn't manage a creche according to the old sig character of the show.
Its time for the BBC to trailer a newteam of one man,one woman and one transgender presenter with black,lesbian and disabled aspects but look like Carol Vorderman,Claire Balding and Ant and Dec with no expense spared by the taxpayers to save their face. |
