As far as I know pictures or depictions of Mohammed are banned by the moslem religion. They are not allowed. The same harsh punishments would apply to ANYBODY who created images of Mohammed...whether they be Christian, Moslem, Hindu, Agnostic or whatever. You are not allowed to do this. It is NOT some minor point about 'can't take a joke' or 'no sense of humour'. It is totally against the Islamic religion.
There are plenty of pictures, sculptures and cartoons of Jesus because they are NOT banned by Christianity...but there are NO images of Mohammed ANYWHERE. Not even in Iran. In fact, especially not in Iran! I've no doubt that they have a specific term for this forbidding, but I have no idea what that might be. As usual, I could be totally wrong...but not deliberately so. |

Still, the Aberfan thing resonates. I recall, a few weeks I think after the Dunblane massacre, there was a memorial service in the school. It was live on radio and I caught it while driving home, in time to hear some cleric announce that "God was here that day", in reference to the mass shootings perpetrated by Thomas Hamilton. My first thought was, well if that's true, the Devil must have got there first. Then you think, if I'd been a parent of one of the kids blown away by the nutter, I'd have wanted to punch said cleric. "God was here that day". Just empty, vacant words. For once I'm in total agreement with you Alias. I saw someone on TV being interviewed and they asked a minister "Where was God that Day?" He was devoid of a proper answer and started responding with "Well I know how you feel like that but ...." And the other person cut him off by saying again "Where was he?" He waffled on about how it must seem but blah blah blah. And that's the point. We are told that everything that happens is Gods will, but it just doesn't make any sense. |

Aka - NOT everything that happens is God's will - you see this in the book of Jonah, Daniel, Job, etc. Muslims believe in "Fate" as was depicted in the film "Laurence of Arabia"...Allah's will is inscrutable and ultimately unknowable.
See "Laurence of Arabia." - "It is written..." etc. as an illustration of this. Even in the early parts of the Bible, the prophets argue with God and appeal to God. They seek to change God's mind... Who paid for the mines to be dug? Who dug the mines? Who built the sl@gheaps? BTW - Jesus was asked about the people who died when the Tower of Siloam collapsed and he gave his answer. (Gospel of Luke). |

Vel I've visited Kelvingrove on many an occasion and am always enthralled with Dali's Christ of St John on the Cross ( I printed it's full title to save you having to tell me
 ) but I also love most other paintings especially of that magnitude. The subject matter might be religious but that doesn't follow that to appreciate it you must somehow have an appreciation for Christianity as preached in our churches. |

Was taken there as a youngster by my parents, even joined a bible study group, but came to the conclusion it was a load of pap. Hypocrite btw as I sometimes accompany my wife to the kirk but our minister is in no doubts as to my lack of belief. You're earlier remarks give only OT references but we know that there exists many a contradiction between both testaments. "Some say an eye for an eye but I say unto you ..." for example. We are/were, whatever you want, told that god is a loving god that sent his son to earth to suffer for us. Sorry but all the disease, all the millions of children born into famine areas just to suffer a slow lingering death from malnutrition, all the people killed in wars, all the families who suffer because of the loss of a loved one, all .... feck I could go on forever. No, you can stick your religion. |

Yes looking forward to it. Celtic big favourites but we shall see who leaves parkhead in this window and who Rangers bring in on loan from Newcastle. I'm pretty sure that given the fight that looks to be developing that Ashley will want to curry favour with the fans and giving us a few players on loan would do that. Desperately we need to strengthen the defence and get a creative midfielder. |

you will be assailed by images of Jesus Christ...paintings by Caravaggio, Velazquez, Michelangelo, Raphael, Rembrandt and so on...and MY GOD Happy...it's ABSOLUTELY beautiful and thrilling ; perhaps even "P1ss Christ" by Andres Serrano.
Not to mention EL GRECO, who, I'm sure you'll agree Diego, had an uncommon habit of making Jesus look gay... As someone said, the Christians, the Mohammedans, the Jews, the others, all of them, they all say they have the true faith. Well they can't ALL be right, but they can ALL BE WRONG. |

Curious that you asked akabula if he was a mason - you asked me the same question some years ago and I answered you. Not that it matters really to me, but it unmasks your inbuilt bias and bigotry.
