Surprised Muse - Plug in Baby was omitted. I suppose Highway Star was left out on the grounds that the big guitar bit is more a solo than an actual riff. Tough choice but in the end I plumped for Motorcycle Emptiness.

I would have liked to have seen The Last Time by The Stones in there. How could Smoke on the Water not be on there (unless I missed it) - the bane of a generation of teenage learning guitarists' elderly neighbours?

A helluva lot of good ones on that list. I probably couldn't decide between 10-15 of them.

"Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie a shocking omission though. Not the biggest Bowie fan, but that's a stonker of an opening riff.

Hard to beat Johnny B Goode as a guitar riff, just about every guitarist has copied Chuck Berry licks at sometime or other, even though he stole it from a piano lick in the first place :)

loads of favourites in there, might go with blue oyster cult though doubt it will win, assume hendrix will

Owner Of A Lonely Heart by Yes a shocking omission. If it's oldies voting,I would expect Whole Lotta Love or Smoke On The Water to win. If it's younger people voting,Seven Nation Army might win.

I will vote for Ma Ma Ma Belle.

As with all these lists, some crackers and some awful selections. And some of them aren't even riffs, they're memorable chord progressions or melodies.

Smoke On The Water  is always my first thought in terms of a guitar riff  but .......

where feck is DEBASER .

and
Living After Midnight , Stargazer , Alternative Ulster , Nantucket Sleighride , New Rose , Paranoid Android , All Along The Watchtower , Highway To Hell , Kashmir , Shine On You Crazy Diamond  .................

I'm assuming they could only choose one song by each act on that list so most of those couldn't be included.

Excellent news that the top riff was a Led Zep riff, but my particular favourite Led Zep riff is the Black Dog riff.

Jet Harris Tribute RIP (Apache - The Shadows)  - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f3AbyB8S6I

I shook hands with Jet in Jersey in 1973 when we were introduced by Earle Darren of the Earle Darren Sound.

He didn't say much, he was smashed as was usual for a certain period in his life.

RIP
