No university fees .. years of being bribed - we dont hate the scots but the scots hate us ... go it alone and see how you fare .. you will be comming running back in 5 years ...
Its the sheer blatancy of pishing money up the wall will get you ... I am bored of the massive chip you have on you shoulder, now go on the world stage and perform ... you lack diplomacy and soft skills generally most of you are very opinionated so i look forward to seeing glasgow in 5 years :) i may be wrong but i worked there a lot and god you know how to make someone feel they have to prove themselves ... that said i know a few very good scottish friends. |

Why do the Scots want to keep the pound- I thought the aim was to be fully fledged within the Eurozone?

The majority of Scots don`t hate the English, more stereo typing that drives the undecided voter to vote for Independence. English people are made welcome here, just like the Pakistanis. Perhaps you had a tough time and met a few tw@ts up here, but to tar all Scots with the same brush is an over-reaction. Perhaps you can`t distinguish "banter" from "hatred".
We lack diplomacy? don`t make us laugh, we just say it as it is and an opinion not worth enforcing is an opinion not worth having. You may call FREE University education, health care and social care, "pishing money up the wall", we call it social justice. Saying that we can`t stand on our own two feet and that we will come back running in 5 years, is mere poppycock, but when we get our independence you are welcome to come back north and work here, despite your comments hoping that we fall flat on our face. Whatever you may say, Scotland is a separate nation and what`s wrong with us wanting to control our own destiny, rather than be ruled by an English Tory government in Westminster which doesn`t give a damn about the under privileged in England let alone Scotland. |

Why do the Scottish want independence but not their own currency?Wouldn't England having control of the currency mean they effectively still control Scotland?
|
|
By:
Yes. The Scottish share of the UK's debt would take a lot of sorting out.
The suggestion that they might knock the UK seems pretty unlikely, as who would they be able to borrow from then? I'd be amazed if the vote goes for independence. The financial side will frighten a significant number. It's been like a by-election. You first get the protest vote, then the real vote gives a very different result. |
|
By:
If they are allowed independence,(and the result of the vote does not necessarily have to be implemented)
British north sea oil must stay under British ownership... the Scots must relinquish any claim to the oil. |

What does performing on the world stage mean?
7 of the richest 8 countries (and 12 of the top 16) on a GDP per capita basis have populations of 8 million or less. Hong Kong is included as a country in these lists. Despite all their problems even Ireland and Iceland outperform the UK by this criteria. Going to G8 meetings and invading other coutries isn't the be all and end all. I'd rather we quitely got on with building a fairer and more democratic society. Even as is, and exluding oil, does our economy underperform by much when compared to the rest of the UK? Also i look forward to seeing glasgow in 5 years Have you had a good look at it lately? The state of large parts of it should shame us all. Could it get any worse? If it did how would we notice? If Glasgow was a country, male life expectancy there would place it around 120th on the list, around Vanuatu, Azerbaijan, Guatemala and Sao Tome and Principe. Strangely enough, Glaswegians are perhaps the most likely to vote for things to carry on as they are. A seperate currency is the best thing, I don't see why this is a problem - other than the yes campaign being stupid enough to nail their colours to that mast only. |

Resources have always divided by territorial waters, not by percantage of population. That is how it is. Is not even an issue.
In regard to the debt, nobody really knows how much it is as it has been complicated by QE although it will be a hefty amount. |
|
By:
Either you're independent or not....sounds like the kid who leaves home but comes back for his meals and to get his mum to wash his clothes.

By:
A separate currency could be an enormous problem. The interest on government gilts could be significantly higher were Scotland to stand alone. It is said to take around 20 years to establish a stable currency. What might the new currency be worth then?

Osborne kick in the teeth to scotland
REALLY? What would you have expected him to say? No surprise at all, and there will be an answer. If any Scot listens to the tw@t Osborne, they need their head looked. Pompous tory, old Etonian. His party would have (more than likely) a permanent hegemony at Westminster if there were no Scots labour MPs, so why does he want a no vote? WHAT HAVE WE GOT THAT THE TORIES WANT? What is more important to them than permanent power? Vote no and you might as well be a turkey voting for Christmas. |

I'd never really take notice of the spellings or grammar on here but a jock putting an e in whisky is nearly as bad as putting anything in a fine malt.If a man wants to drink proper whisky he drinks whisky not whiskey. Only on a wind up by the way & I hope you get home rule. |

Labour’s Michael Kelly on last night’s Newsnight Scotland, explaining that Scottish Labour MPs and MSPs would “to a person” back Ed Balls refusing a currency union, even if it damaged Scotland, because otherwise Labour might lose a UK election:

You're not being threatened, you're being told that the conditions for running a currency union aren't viable. Looking at what's actually required, that's probably a fair assessment, and one that has also been supported by advocates for an independent Scotland. The question you should be asking is why Salmond after spending a decade calling the pound a millstone around Scottish necks and sterling a currency in a death spin, is now so keen for a currency union. |

act of union
pound was an equal currency |
