Marlow (providing it's dried up by the time you're planning on going)
Amersham Waddesdon (for the Manor and some decent pubs - you'll have to schlep into Aylesbury for the bookies) |
|

I think Stamford is better than Oundle, a lot bigger and some good pubs, cracking market on a Friday, easy to get to Melton Mowbray , Leicester and Peterborough (dump, full of eastern europeans), for a day out, Northampton and Cambridge (very nice} not far away.

Arundel, handy for Goodwood as well. Nowhere near me of course but nice towns near South East London are thin on the ground. I like Brixton but not certain that counts or is to everyone's taste. I like the place though.

You must be in Northants , Roy, I think a lot of Northamptonshire is nice, dont know much about the west side, although Towcester always looks nice, but a lot of attractive places such as Barnwell over this side, thats too small for the OP probably.

Good thread pebbles22 - lots of ideas in here
It does seem that towns with National Hunt only tracks are unusually nice, when there is no racing in town of course Where I am: Sedgefield , Co Durham : a good few pubs and shops selling posh frocks, big park, and later Hardwick Hall if there is a tribute band or a fight event on. |

Slippy spent a week in ARUNDEL last year , smashing little town , near both Fontwell and as you say Goodwood ...Smashing pub down by the castle , well worth a visit , a shop in the high street has some wonderful horse prints at reasonable prices ..The owner is a smashing fellow , a cockney , I spent a few hours talking to him he loves his work...Some really nice pubs as well , a wonderful Indian restaurant as well...

The Maybush in Walderingfield and The Ramsholt Arms on the other side of the River Deben not far away were mainly my haunts Coach. We had our mooring by The Ramsholt. That place has got a very famous history if you look into it.

It always is!
We always stayed at The Queens Head/Arms? and they would give you a permit for the CO-OP car park. We always had to park somewhere else first though and move the car later on. I was born at Darley Dale hospital, and spent the first 18 months of my life in Little Longstone. ![]() |
