themighty........whats the point of the bible if nothing is true in it.....we now know most of it is untrue.........historians are pretty certain jesus existed but moses didnt

The possibility of any other life is very small...we are probably alone.
Actually the no. of planets is not relevant to the thing |
By:
We should consider what exactly religion is for.
good question lfc1971 my answer was given previously, it answers a question that our brains ask Two thousand years ago, having a creator would probably have made more sense than someone wittering on about the 'higgs bosun'.. science has changed our view since but still cannot answer the question WHY? |
By:
Why lfc, ammino acids the building blocks of life are found on asteriods.

The strange thing about the Bible is most of it seems to be true

Van daniken thinks that Jesus was an ancient astronaut. He could be right.

Religion was are first attempt at science, medicine, law, etc. as a species.
But because it was our first it is also our worst. |

"Moses didn`t exist"?
Try telling Burt Lancaster that ![]() |

It is strange when very smart scientists say because the universe is so vast, with so many planets, this is a reason to say life should exist....it makes me doubtful of their reasoning skills |

"Firmly denying atheism, Einstein expressed a belief in "Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the harmony of what exists." This actually motivated his interest in science, as he once remarked to a young physicist: "I want to know how God created this world, I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details." Einstein's famous epithet on the "uncertainty principle" was "God does not play dice" - and to him this was a real statement about a God in whom he believed. A famous saying of his was "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

Goodnight all.

bobtoe I don't know the others
![]() I will google them ![]() Religion I feel has also been used as a means of controlling a society.. by imposing certain values and standards of behaviour on them by rulers 'thou shalt not kill','thou shalt not steal', etc despite what people think, these are values we have to learn they are not born in us |
By:
goodnight mac
![]() a lively thread |

Something we convenientally forget is who were the neanderthals? If we could answer this it might help
us understand something about ourselves. |
By:
Religion was are first attempt at science, medicine, law, etc. as a species.
But because it was our first it is also our worst. very good imo bobtoe |
By:
My own theory is that men are not really human, females are human, but men were origionally neanderthals.
by breeding with females men became less neanderthal and more human....this process is continuing |
By:
themightmac your taking Einstein's quote out of context. Eintstein didn't deny atheism he didn't like the label 'atheist', he did not believe in a personal god, he was a pantheist. He believe that the laws of physics were god. Hawkings has also had this misquoting done on him.
By:
ebul I stole it from Christopher Hitchens my favourite writer on the subject.
By:
the Neanderthals were just another species of hominids like ourselves
(several independent species of hominids evolved) They became extinct or perhaps cross bred with us... an open question? but have disappeared anyway ...not too long ago in evolutionary terms |

Religion was the invention of the clever weedy guys who couldn't get enough food/sex from their physical efforts. Also depended on the majority being dumb and susceptible - and befriending the macho/physical guys to maximise returns for the alphas.
Religion is a positive force for survival - in as much as adherents will ignore/persecute/kill you if you don't bow down. Come now, half of you should be worshiping me. I'll give you infinitely better advice than any current god. |
By:
yes ebul, they've found that most europeans and asians have about 2% maybe 5% neanderthal dna.
By:
here you go
http://discovermagazine.com/2013/march/14-interbreeding-neanderthals#.UaAB-bV4JzU They estimated that the DNA of living Asians and Europeans was (on average) 2.5 percent Neanderthal. They had to reject a pure version of the out-of-Africa model. Instead, their model was closer to out-of-Africa-and-get-to-know-some-Neanderthals-very-well. |
By:
But the point scientists are missing is that men were originally neanderthals. Through breeding they are in theory
becoming more human. This process is incomplete |
By:
lfc, africans don't have any neandthal dna, how do you explain that?
By:
They do, but neanderthals existed seperately in various parts of the world for longer
By:
The neanderthal dna that remains comes only from male neanderthals...who breed with female humans

We are the result...this is why mans character is different from women..more violent but also sometimes more inventive.
By:
why do you think neanderthals were more violent?
By:
Only for one reason Bobtoe ..we are more violent
By:
well in that article it says
If Neanderthal males were involved, they would be able to provide an X to their daughters but none to their sons. If Reich were to find an unusually low amount of Neanderthal DNA on the X chromosome compared with the other chromosomes, it might be a clue that Neanderthal males impregnated human females. A high ratio would point the other way, to Neanderthal great-great-grandmothers. “We are looking hard at this,” he says. so we may get them answers |

hello NorthernLad I thought you had gone back to the asylum

It is a great mystery

We are homicidal, cannibalistic apes (so my upbringing has led me to believe). Everything makes sense if you believe this. But we are also capable of acts of astonishing altruism. But that also is usually explicable. Kill the strangers makes most sense. Now and then.

Yes but I got sick of the fruitcakes on the Politics Forum.
Always quite fascinated what people who have no religious background make of spirituality! Bit like trying to explain to an Amazon indian what snow is! |
By:
First you have to define 'spirituality'
By:
It seems to me that the best solution to this problem would be to kill anyone who has posted more than 8 times on this thread. Obviously any such would be a fanatic and best handed over to MI5. Spirituality = skin-eating monsters.
