Some of the worst vitriol is coming from people who have no recollections of Thatcher as PM. Our 15 year old niece has been so brain washed at school or by her step dad that she has pronounced to the world on twitter that this is the happiest day of her life. I just don't understand it at all. |

I left school at 16 straight into full time work.
29 years later I still work for the same people. Was never a student, never been unemployed. Never been on a protest march, I own my own house, never rented one. I'm married with 2 kids, and am from the Tory loving Essex I've never celebrated the death of someone before, and I can't really think of anyone else's that I would. But, by God, I was happy yesterday when I heard the news. She was an old lady - so what, Jimmy Saville was an old man. Dont see that fact getting in the way of his 'legacy' She was a mother - so is Mairead Philpott, I didn't notice many posts using that defence of her against the vitriol directed at her. I will celebrate her death. Every time I pay a utility bill to a foreign owned company, every time I pass my old schools playing fields with houses on them, every time British manufacturing is mentioned, I will think of her and the poisonous legacy she left for the average man and woman in this country. |

British manufacturing was fooked because it was uncompetitive, mainly because of globalisation. Unskilled manufacturing is a dead duck in the Western World. The country had to change and had to be tough. Britain has to compete in a global economy now which means it's hands are tied with regard to certain policies. The goalposts have changed. It's not even a political football as all parties know this is the case.

he probably did but then he was no socialist either - that lot just tinker with capitalism. In fact are rather good way of controlling people - they believe that Labour are actually improving their lot - so takes a bit of a sting out of the criticism and radical ideas or actions. All rather clever - and look how Labour turned out under Kinnock, blair et al ha ha!!!

funny how we sit on 400 years of coal but are gasping for gas and it is a 'CRISIS' who controls all this energy, natural resources. The distributors, many foreign, are reaping the profit. Look a bit further than the edge of your Wikepedia.
Looks like manufacturing in some sectors is Ok but so much is foreign owned. Let's be honest - capital isn't interested in Britain PLC - only in profit - if they don't get what they want they will move it east as I always say. Behave or we go ha ha!!!! |

When trains were powered by coal and steam and everyone had a coal fireplace I guess there was a big market for coal. Not much sense in selling it overseas for 30% of the cost of digging it out. Times change, businesses reach the end of their natural life and the mines had to close.

I wasn't moaning about my lot. I was pointing out that I don't fit into the categories stated by the OP.

I see the state of the country, and what affects me and every person like me in the UK and know where the fault lies for many of the problems in the country in this day and age. As I see, it's largely down to Thatcher, her Government and the selfish, spiteful, 'me me me' attitude she created. |

You can liken the economy to Betfair and the Premium Charge. As the exchange market is a natural monopoly, they can charge the biggest earners a much greater share of their profits. They can't charge poker winners a greater share of the profits because they'll just up sticks and bet elsewhere and should the exchange market have competition, the people that make the markets and provide liquidity (business) would just up sticks too.
That's what happening more and more with the economy. It's more global, there's more competition, less Communist states, and you can't tax high like you once could. |

no need to have sold it overseas, we could have used every piece that was mined. Did you know that Germany are shutting down all their nuclear power stations by 2012? They are beginning a massive expansion of coal fired plants because they are being held to ransom over electricity imports, and don't say it is dirty because their is carbon cleansing of coal now which was invented by us. |

persnally i think the basis of poll tax was a good idea, sadly it was badly implemented.the idea that each individual user of services paying something each towards the cost rather than just the house owner is a very fair way of doing things. th fact is some people want everything for nothing and expect/demand others to pay for it on their behalf.like most polliticians id say thatcher made good and bad decisions.if you wanted the countery held to ransom by the union then thatcher wouldnt be your cup of tea.i think unions went from being a great thing to being a total drain on the country.funny thing is whilst the miners were out stiking in the freezing cold and their familys suffering financial restraintstheir good old leaders scargill and co were not suffering in the same way.the truth is the shop stewards needed strikes to justify coppin g their lot, if everything was going well for the woekers theyd be no need for those parasites.clowns dancing in the streets at thenews of thatchers death just show how rude and pig ignorant they are.they are entitled to their viewson anyone/anything but its all done for show.irrelevant of what anyone thinks of thatcher she has a family and they dont deserve to see such sick behaviour.i think the girl o the tv said something pretty fair," people say half the public loved thatcher nd half despised her, if that was the truth how did continue to win many votes/elections"

The vast majority "Celebrating" her death are 5cumbags who contribute f**k all to society. She took over a cesspit of a country which left its dead and rubbish to rot on the streets. The UK was not a perfect place in the 80s but it was progressive. Unions who had f**k all interest in the country were defeated. The UK is alot better place today because of her. She rewarded people who wanted to work and contribute towards society.
Not all her policies were correct and of course she made many mistakes but it says alot about people as Human beings that they "Celebrate" death imho |
