Not seen this thread before. Glad to note that certain people's absence was noticed. A few already named who I'd wondered about myself.
DMP, if you called in Easter's local again I'm sure he'd let you buy him a pint. Wizard's Sleeve WASN'T unbeatable on music quizzes btw. He lost at least once. winky smiley. |

Yes tobermory, that would be me. I did set a few questions for some quizzes too, but in the end work got in the way. This is my first time back in ages, surprised (pleasantly) to see so many familiar names on the forum :)

I bring the sad news of the death of U.R.Wochuwyz on Saturday. One of the greats of the forum back in the day, and if you have ever read Simon Day's autobiography "Comedy and Error", URW gets a hefty chunk of prose in tribute. A real character.

Crikey, a blast from the past, very sad, RIP.

I remember URW very well luddite, he was a regular poster on horse racing. He went to Gary's forum in later years and moderated that place. Sad news as he was one of the good guys even though we sometimes didn't agree on everything we always had a mutual respect for one another.
The oldtimers on the horse racing forum will remember him for sure. |

A well remembered forumite by me.
R.I.P. and condolences to family and friends. |

One of the list I actually remember ... and he is newly deceased!
Sad news, he was a cracking poster. |
|
By:
One of the giants of chit chat in the early days. Very intelligent, but always polite and courteous. Sad news indeed.
|
|
By:
Had some interesting forum discussions with URW many years ago. He was very knowledgeable of many things from politics to Jewish Chess Grandmasters. Sad news.
RIP. |

Does anyone remember a poster named "The Assessor?". Terrific chap, who had another name before that. Pretty sure it was 3 words but for the life of me I can't recall it. He'll be in his mis to late 60's now. Had some good chats with him.
|

It was just 'Assessor'
I used to have his email address but lost it when my last PC blew up a few years ago. I think he was also known as 'pp king' who always used to post 'a pleasing thread' before his name. I know where he worked, but as he didn't want anybody else to know (apart from others on his email list I assume) so I kept it that way. |
|
By:
Thanks Squeeze, and I think you've answered this before. Yes it was "Assessor" as you say, on reflection but I'd be surprised if it was "pp king", (janov's mate) who although amusing wasn't the sort of chap you would have a sensible conversation with, apologies if that's wrong. Almost sure Assessor had a 3 word name before he changed it. He was getting on as he was older than me, marginally. We had "Sir Edward Appleton" in common. I was in his "house" at school and my Aunt knew his sister. Assessor attended one of his lectures in the 60s.

Not sure this sort of thread is a good idea because people that don't get mentioned might just think "feck 'em I won't come back".
Having said that, Abolo and Boggle haven't been seen for a while. Abolo said he was a frenchman living in Newham, he did post a few photos of places I knew. He said he liked 'large black ladies' so is probably shacked up with one. Good to see orioles back, btw |

naydam, hope the old boy's ok.

No mention yet of a forumite who most here are probably glad to see the back of and that is 'ASCOT1'. I think that was the last username that he was using. He used to sing the praises of 'Pricewise' and his subject line was something like 'Sir Tom Does It Again'.
Wound a lot of people up on the horse racing forum for many years, but haven't seen any postings from him for a long time now, unless he's posting under a different name of course. Looks like he finally got fed up of all the abuse on here and left! |
