they've also transformed southport pier in recent years with a tram which takes you to the penny arcade museum at the end of the pier....the rest of southport lags behind and is a bit dated

Dover? I assume must be a wind-up - it's horrible. Go on Admiralty pier and watch all the illegal immigrants sharing a bong and spitting everywhere, with their kids tied to the railings as they try and catch their lunch over the side.

any seaside town north of Stratford upon avon with the excepion of whitby and maybe one or two coastal villages in the north east deserve to be shut down

A fav of mine is Runswick Bay(the village at the bottom of the hill),just a few miles North of Whitby.Quaint place with no streets as such,just the odd path between the cottages.Decent enough little pub & cracking views out to sea.From Runswick(top of the hill)there's a pleasant walk along to Staithes which is another place with loads of character.The only trouble with this walk is it's a h ell of a climb up the field just out of Staithes on your way back.Top of the bank at Runswick there's a pub with a beer garden which is literally above the village at the bottom of the hill.A pint & a meal here on a sunny day & you couldn't be anywhere better in the world.

another place im looking for for winter, rural secluded spot, hotel, inn on the york moors, dartmoor etc, just like the place on sherlock holmes hound of the baskervilles with basil rathbone , miles from nowhere , ant suggestions, dont say dartmoor prison

back from fantastic week in cardiganshire west wales, just perfect stayed in really nice beach village aberporth, walk few miles on coastal path north is tresdaith again fantastic, then penbryn beach nat trust very picturesque, and then on to llangrannog, pub right on the beach called penlan, what view from the bar window.fancy coming back there in winter when sea is rough. on the last day we got up really early and travelled south couple of miles to mwnt, must be the most peaceful place on earth, with a fabulous cove, very old scenic church, dolphins in the water, it a place everyone should visit, make sure youve a picnic. dont expect arcades , bookies etc
,if its a nice quiet holiday this is the area .fantastic choice elisjohn . |

well i reckon someone said llangrannog,
, but many of the places recommended on here i plan to visit in the near future hopefully , i had been to llangrannog itself just for the day many years ago so knew that place was nice. |

Lovely pub overlooking sandy beach, great restaurants, nice walks (and other pubs), chippies, shops - smashing! But no bookie.... Better than South Devon, imo. |

Shaldon in South Devon is great.Can catch the 2 minute boat to Teignmouth so no driving either.Absolutely fantastic.

Just got back today from a 2-nights stay in Robin Hood's Bay (I'm a poet and don't know it!) It is an absolute corker of a place and the peacefulness due to it being out-of-season made it even better. Can't wait to return.

Had a drink and Fish & Chips in the Bay Fri night. Nowt wrong wi either, but would have preferred mushies rather than petit pois. Moved on to Ye Dolphin. Beer ok but young lad serving was more interested in his phone than the customers. Then on to the Laurel Inn. Lovely atmo, roaring fire, good beer and good company. Locals also friendly. "Interesting" gents bog! T'other half (a Nottingham native) has been going at least once a year for over 25 years and has already left instructions that her ashes are to be scattered there. A wonderful place and could have spent many more hours exploring the alleyways. I live in the Yorkshire Dales and thought I was lucky, but RHB is a place apart. |

To the left of the Villa is the house I grew up in, aged 6-14 - Stormville. To the right is the house my family have lived in ever since, Ingleside! I was there just ten days ago! Yeah the Dolphin staff aren't always all that, but the folk night is amazing. Went there once with my friend, an american fillipinno singer (!), and she sang Amazign Grace, and a bloke accompanied her on...bagpipes. The Laurel is just special! That big is a delight, as is the snug. At xmas, in the Grosvener, I got told without hesitation to feck right off because they were closing. Then they worked out I was local. Was there another four hours! |

We scattered my dad's ashes there last year, or rather at the top of 'sledgates', at his request. Probably the windiest place in Britain. The ****!
