Thanks TT for the Susan Cadogan; one of me and Mrs Toteboards all time favs, have it on 7".
While I love all the roots and dub, and the male vocalists, it was lovers rock sung by girls, usually from South London, that really did it for me. Selections to follow  |

My Bad Manners hard luck story (I think I've documented this on the forum before) but I saw a poster advertising them at a venue that was within walking distance of me at the time. I thought 'Mint, I'll have some of that'. Persuaded a few of my mates to come along & we were all up for it by the time the day came. We all showed up & the venue seemed a bit 'quiet' to say the least. When we asked someone official-looking what time they were on he replied: 'Oh they were on yesterday. The date was printed wrong on the poster.'
So, while looking forward to a bit of  , it all went a bit  |

Never found out Tommy, I was too gutted. Obviously it was in the days before the internet, mobile phones etc. I bet there weren't as many there as there should have been tho. Still, a mate of mine who was in a band (Kelly Smunt & The Turd Burglars) tipped me off about a gig he was doing in quite a big venue (like, 200+) and a total of five people (inc me) turned up!
The promoter refused to put the band's name on the poster, shortening it to KSTB |

Happy, never to be repeated, halcyon days Tommy. Dr Dave & The Diabetics did a gig in a church hall near me when I was in my teens. My mate was so leathered he fell off stage after one song, dragging his guitar & amp with him. Whoever was 'in charge' soon chucked everyone off. My other mate was in the support band & he did a full set, despite the drummer playing most of the gig with just one stick because he was a bit short sighted & threw it up in the air during one song, meaning to catch it, but he dropped it & never found it again!
