I can understand why there's a market for almost anything but I'll never understand why people insist that
1) Heather Smalls 2) The bland ferk from the Lightning Seeds are regarded as being in possession of good singing voices, they're flat as pancakes. |

Very true. I reckon with a marketing budget of a couple of hundred grand any of us could throw on some bling and some attitude and release a rap record destined for the top 10. It is just about marketing it enough to the right idiots.
Also the trick they seem to use a lot these days is having 2 artists collaborate or have one featuring the other. Look at how many songs in the top 40 have this. Idiots buy this persons songs so we will put this big selling talentless singer with our hoping to be big selling talentless singer and the idiots will become exposed to the second singer and buy their songs. See Lily Allen and the little white boy for an example. |

can't believe that Bruce springsteen and the clash were mentioned here, fantastic music and lyrics. I suppose everyone is different.
I am a huge music lover , will listen to anybody umpteen times to see if there is anything in their music etc etc. There is one band though that I never ever got, could never get into them, didn't understand their appeal but I am sure they are loved by some on here. THE DOORS!!! WTF |

Only flicked through this but not seen Snow Partol mentioned. They are actually more bland than Coldplay, which takes some doing.

Its always amazed me why people thing rap music is any good. Its just talking stupid but because its mainly done by black people nobody dare criticise it. Its not rap its cr@p and I mean fcuking cr@p.

Oasis
Pulp The Boo Radleys Basically any mid-nineties 'Britpop' with a few exceptions. The music scene in the Uk was really healthy in the early nineties until about 93 then all this crud came along. Oasis the most baffling of all though, in terms of incredibly pedestrian by-numbers pub rock selling millions. |

Can't be bothered to read the thread, but has anyone done Rachmaninov yet?

not heard much of Pulp but Common People is a great number.

Pulp's Common People a superb number.
Can't knock Pink Floyd... I even played in a PF tribute band ffs! Rap... just don't get it at all. Stereophonics.. I call it suicide music, work that out for yourself. McCartney.. great with The Beatles, done nothing for me since then. James Blunt.. eh? |

Terry, the Flowerpot Men were a British group - a John Carter project. John Carter was formerly a member of 60s band The Ivy League and was also responsible for Beach Baby/First Class.
Also in the Flowerpot men were Jon Lord and Nick Simper, founder members of Deep Purple. I wonder how proud they are of it? |

Kaiser Chiefs anyone?
Also Edith Piaf, The Strokes, Goldfrapp, Franz Ferdinand (though Alison Goldfrapp is quite hot). |

I'm astonished no one has mentioned Gracie Fields.

The initial premise was '..not just those you don't like, those whose appeal to anyone you simply can't understand'
So think outside your own little world and contemplete those vast numbers of griity street tough urban desperadoes turned on by rap artists, those student bedwetters that hum and whirr to Florence and The Machine, those ESN spacktards who like Lady Gaga etc. See? There's always a market for all kinds of tawdry old bo11ocks - it's not rocket science. |

Surely the point is to be pointing out the bands/artists that you think are particularly rubbish, even for their genre. I understand who the target audiences are for the groups that I listed - I just think that there are much, much better groups out there doing a similar sort of thing. With the exception of Edith Piaf, the bands I listed are broadly in genres which I do like, I just happen to think that they're massively over-rated. I cannot for the life of me work out why The Kaiser Chiefs are more popular than any of The Mystery Jets, The Pigeon Detectives, The Coral or The Enemy for example. |

what a pointless thread. Music divides opinion like no other subject I can think of. Each to their own. |
