not sure there is any more evidence for a god than there is for a tooth fairy, santa, easter bunny etc. he is a supermarket whilst they are corner shops in my opinion You are comparing apples and oranges. There is no evidence for tooth fairy, santa, easter bunny and they are all things kids believe in. God is something people often come to believe in as they get older. this doesn't happen with the other three. There is evidence for God. http://www.existence-of-god.com/ Arguments for the existence of God The cosmological argument argues that there was a "first cause", or "prime mover" who is identified as God. It starts with a claim about the world, like its containing entities or motion. The teleological argument argues that the universe's order and complexity are best explained by reference to a creator God. It starts with a rather more complicated claim about the world, i.e. that it exhibits order and design. This argument has two versions: One based on the analogy of design and designer, the other arguing that goals can only occur in minds. The ontological argument is based on arguments about a "being greater than which cannot be conceived". It starts simply with a concept of God.[16] Avicenna,[17][18] St. Anselm of Canterbury and Alvin Plantinga formulated this argument to show that if it is logically possible for God (a necessary being) to exist, then God exists.[16] The argument from degree, a version of the ontological argument posited by Aquinas, states that there must exist a being which possesses all properties to the maximum possible degree. Arguments that a non-physical quality observed in the universe is of fundamental importance and not an epiphenomenon, such as Morality (Argument from morality), Beauty (Argument from beauty), Love (Argument from love), or religious experience (Argument from religious experience), are arguments for theism as against materialism. The anthropic argument suggests that basic facts, such as our existence, are best explained by the existence of God. The moral argument argues that the existence of objective morality depends on the existence of God. The transcendental argument suggests that logic, science, ethics, and other things we take seriously do not make sense in the absence of God, and that atheistic arguments must ultimately refute themselves if pressed with rigorous consistency. The will to believe doctrine was pragmatist philosopher William James' attempt to prove God by showing that the adoption of theism as a hypothesis "works" in a believer's life. This doctrine depended heavily on James' pragmatic theory of truth where beliefs are proven by how they work when adopted rather than by proofs before they are believed (a form of the hypothetico-deductive method). The Argument from Reason holds that if, as thoroughgoing naturalism entails, all of our thoughts are the effect of a physical cause, then we have no reason for assuming that they are also the consequent of a reasonable ground. Knowledge, however, is apprehended by reasoning from ground to consequent. Therefore, if naturalism were true, there would be no way of knowing it |

if you had parents that brainwashed you in to god then you will believe it, most have no choice I wasn't brought up in a Christian home. Quite the opposite in fact. People brain wash their kids in to lots of things including atheism. |
|
By:
i cannot be bothered to read that but would ask..... WHO SAYS? and where is their proof plase?
|
|
By:
cristo, how can you be brainwashed into being left to your own devices to come to any conclusion your life experiences may lead you to?

las vegas, surely preying for yourself is very selfish, No as long as you pray for others as well. also to say prayer never harmed anyone is inaccurate as millions have been murdered over the centuries for saying prayers differently to others have they not? It wasn't for saying prayers differently.it was because of different beliefs and Jesus never taught any one to kill their enemies quite the reverse in fact. |

By:
WHICH GOD IS CORRECT ???? JEWISH, MUSLIM. CHRISTIAN OR THE MYRIAD OF OTHERS, they cannot all be correct so which is it please??
|
|
By:
GOD IS RITE, THE SHEEP STRAY ;)
|
|
By:
cristo, saying prayers differently is sort of part of a different belief system , and millions have been murdered horribly by others for that im afraid over the years!... not really any god's best work!

If/when "he" doesn't look after you and yours, viva, does it mean that your prayers were ignored? No. Sometimes God says no when we ask him things. If he always said yes everyone would become a Christian just to get everything they want in life. you need to read Job. Do you conclude that you should prayer harder/more often? Possibly yes. |
|
By:
funny thing is icabod most of them are interlinked they are known as abrohamic faiths.
Christianity/muslim/judasim are all very similar a few differences on wether jesus was the son of god or just a phrophet, but fundamentality they believe the same thing. |

Dobbo 29 Apr 23:20 Blue: Youe believe in God but dont know if there is one and would not argue against anyone claiming there is not.Confused? yours deidre I do believe. I do not know. I would not argue because your beliefs are none of my business. This is very british. |

01, if all the same, whats all the fuss, they all have different stories im afraid and JESUS hardly figures in both judaism and moslem faith

Atheism is peaceful ye right. I guess you've never heard of Stalin and Mao. Two out of the three biggest mass murderers in history and both atheists. Not bad going for such a small subgroup. Atheists have killed many more millions than all the religions put together and they only did it in the last 90 years. |

Dobbo, kindly accompany your silly little posts with some kind of argument , if you are still able or do not bother at all , as you just make yourself seem stupid and small! thanks !

As for belief I have just watched the debate with the party leaders.
When asked a question about inheritance tax benefiting the very rich and his attitude to it Cameron chose to answer another question on child credits. When asked about the Euro Clegg answered in a way that would make a European Union sceptic proud. When Brown was asked about those who abuse the benefit system whose answer about forcing the unemployed to work would not of sounded out of place to a hard right Tory. I dont think this makes them liars or untruthful. They are not seeking out the truth they are putting forward party policies in the best light they can. I happen to normally vote tory and probably will this time as well. I do not agree with every Tory policy but agree with the general thrust of their policy. I am not partisan by nature and believe in God as many other posters do. The fact I do not agree with everything they believe does not mean we agree on many things. Jesus said those who genuinely seeks the truth will find it. I think Pilot was not open to the truth as he had no framework to understand the type of person Jesus was. I think he was cynical and unable to believe in |

ICABOD PEAPOD 29 Apr 23:27
chiming of bells every sunday is surely equivalent to the kerrching! of cash registers to a religion that preaches poverty, how pathetic Going to Church is free. I'd like to see Man u and the rest of the premier league try that one. How come you don't point the finger at them? it's your attitude that is pathetic. |
|
By:
where are you sourcing your information about anything pilate said about anything and how are you coming to the conclusion it is true when it happened 2000 years ago allegedly?
|
|
By:
If god is supposedly everywhere, why do people flock to churches ?
Can't he hear them if they're sitting on the khazi or lyying in bed ? |
|
By:
J2BLUE. 29 Apr 23:29
The silly thing is, if someone who had a strong believe started arguing back you'd soon say they were preaching, yet you've just given out a lot of abuse to anyone that believes. You are preaching. Why can you not just respect peoples' views? Live and let live. Valid. The atheists proselytize just as much as any one else, but apparently they are allowed to. The word consistency means nothing to them. |
|
By:
Icapod Read your own posts. You hardly postulate an intelligent arguement for atheism. Its juvenile and certainly no competition for the committed christians on this thread.
|

cristo, not sure i see your point, never came across a Manchester United fan who believed Manchester United would send them to heaven for eternity!
Not sure winning a championship is what the so called bible referred to when it mentioned paradise |

Dobbo 29 Apr 23:31
I accept your belief and your right to believe/Respect is a little more difficult You expect me to respect you right not to believe. Which I do, but you should have some good solid reasons for why you believe what you believe. |
|
By:
ICABOD PEAPOD 29 Apr 23:32
live and let live is fine! i would be happy with a few shreds of evidence that was more compelling than the evidence for the tooth fairy or santa, anyone who can provide this is most welcome! I would however predict all those who believe in god have no evidence and therefore have basically been taken in by what has been rammed down their throats from birth See my previous posts. |
|
By:
Dobbo please provide an accompanying argument with your vitriol born out of my putting you in your place due to drunken posting on more than one occasion in the near past, thanks!
|

I do not expect respect and I do not believe in anything.Thats simple surely?
|
|
By:
cristo, either prove the existence of god or go away!

As scientific data is leading to a large amount of scientists to believe in a god/creator i liked the quote from Richard Dawkins the best.
We don't need evidence. We know it (evolution) to be true."-Richard Dawkins, Quoted by World, Mar. 22, 1997 and "Even if all the data point to an intelligent designer, such an hypothesis is excluded from science because it is not naturalistic."-George Wald, "The Origin of Life," Scientific American, Vol. 190 pp. 46-50 these people are held up by atheists who turn blind eyes to scientific evidence when it doesnt suit them. |

I digree IP Buddists seem quite peaceful and tolerant,Christianity is also as such tolerant(ish) and peaceful as is Judasiam.Though it pains me to say it the "religion of peace" itself seems to be the percursor of much of the worlds conflict. I think you will find that 90% of conflict that comes from religion comes from islam. It was founded by war and not much has changed. |
|
By:
Dobbo, your not expecting respect is all i needed to hear, i suspect a dignified silence at this point is beyond you!
