to believe is not to know...
By:
I think most people choose what to believe on the basis of a gut feel and then seek to justify it with logic after that, that includes atheists
I believe in God (Christian) on the basis of what I would call experience and the behavior of the early followers of Jesus |

nothing whatsoever to do with 'feeling better' ie nsurance policy when u die....if you truly believe its supposed to be based on love...you love him back because he first loved you.
Christianity or to be more precise, acceptance of what christ has done for us, as opposed to to other so called religions actually offers a real personal relationship with the creator, they are all based on what WE can do, the christian if hes sincere, is based on what God has already done. |

Religion is the biggest lie ever created

we are star stuff

*christian belief
By:
most religions are indeed lies yes. but I would accept that Jesus christ is NOT a liar.

Ok, but regarding the thread title....

Has this ever been discusses before?

I would tend to believe that there is too much that is too convenient as far as god is concerned!
For instance, why is it that the soul that goes to heaven is the only part of a body that does not show up on an x ray? Why does nobody remember the dozens of other messiahs that trawled around the middle and near east around the time of christ whose message just did not catch on, remember VHS Betamax, there was not apparently room for both. Why are natives who worship the trees and the monkeys and the streams and the plants that daily give them life not the ones who have it spot on Why is the catholic church one of the largest corporations in the world , raking in billions of dollars a year when preaching their priests take vows of poverty A lot does not add up, and is not GOD just the word good corrupted and the word DEVIL just eviL with a D at the beginning! Maybe they are both just made up poster children for all that is good and evil, like santa is the charicature for christmas, just a thought!! |
By:
discusses is not a word, sober contributors only please!

Charicature?

Nice idea to explain the world when we didn't know any better.
Time to move on. |
By:
Yes I do. I don't need to justify my belief to you, just like I wouldn't judge your apparent atheism
By:
God gives. God takes. God's name be ever blessed.

By:
why remove your 4skin
By:
i believe there was a god at some stage, at least a conscience being of some sort before all of us.
as for organised religion, heaven/hell and such like, load of tripe from an age where people were not allowed to read or write. |
By:
if there is he is making a godawful mess of things.
By:
maybe when a thread such as this receives zero replies it will be time to move on!
Also if something has been discussed before, is it not rather ignorant/arrogant to believe that nothing new can be added, surely Jesus preached something new that formed the belief system for millions of shep like converts over the centuries |
By:
To answer the question meaningfully you would have to define what you mean by "god".
If God is anything, it must be everything imo and as such would be synonymous with Cosmos, Universe (ie all that is). |
By:
Oh man not this old chestnut again.I'm not sure but i do know the subject isn't that clear
By:
ok! who believes a white bearded man controls everything ?? anyone?
By:
if there is a god out there still pulling the strings then they have a very dark sense of humour, as we are the punchline we should HATE god
By:
I believe in God but wouldn't say I was a follower of any particular religion. I don't need to be a Christian or a Muslim etc to believe in God. I don't need to go to church to be preached to. I just try and be a decent person and live an honest life.
Is there a God? I don't know. I wouldn't argue with you that there was. |

well said BLUE.
By:
100% I believe, and I pray almost daily - for Him to look after me and my loved ones.
The odd prayer never done anyone any harm, it does people good imo |
By:
not sure there is any more evidence for a god than there is for a tooth fairy, santa, easter bunny etc. he is a supermarket whilst they are corner shops in my opinion!
By:
lol Icabod peabod :D
By:
if you had parents that brainwashed you in to god then you will believe it, most have no choice
By:
las vegas, surely preying for yourself is very selfish, also to say prayer never harmed anyone is inaccurate as millions have been murdered over the centuries for saying prayers differently to others have they not?
By:
Blue: Youe believe in God but dont know if there is one and would not argue against anyone claiming there is not.Confused?
yours deidre |
By:
If/when "he" doesn't look after you and yours, viva, does it mean that your prayers were ignored? Do you conclude that you should prayer harder/more often?

By:
ill try and find the link for the docu i saw years ago that made me believe something was up.
was a group of scientists talking about all the rules and equations in physics that are real but should be impossible, there was also a geologist talking about our planet and the odds of one like it (in relation to our sun, the strength of gravity, the size and weight of the moon, the chemicals/reactions that can only take place here, evolutionary trails etc), he calculated them to be about 64 billion billion billion billion to 1 for our form of life to evolve. they all agreed that science and its answered questions (aswell as unanswered) prove that at some stage something mustve existed out here to make it all happen. |

We're universe star spooge imo..atoms and energy
There may well be a god but there may well not be.Not one shred of evidence to say there is but we'll never know. Peaceful religion is good i'd say. |
By:
bonviv, not many religions seem peaceful however!
