And of course, that the numbers of confirmed deaths in Mexico has been dramatically reduced, and nobody's died here or anywhere else, apart from a baby in the US, those are quite positive things!

Brown has just said only healthstaff need facemasks. Surely you will need one on a packed bus or maybe transport wont be running soon anyway.

With each death from now on they should tell us whether that person has been in Mexico then we can get some idea of how deadly it is going to be for the rest of us.

yes, the best way of covering something up is 24 hour saturation news coverage.

It's spreading, yes, although hardly ripping through society, and it's been fatal to ONE person, a baby, outside of Mexico.

Look I don't want to be a profit of doom, thats the last thing I want to do but we all need to be aware of the danger of this, I cannot believe that some people are taking the pi55 about it. It's been in Mexico for atleast a Month, in this time there have been deaths. America have had it for around 2 weeks the number of confirmed cases are rising and they have had there first death. In the UK the confirmed total is now 5 IT WILL grow because we still have the doors open for all those in Mexico to come and bring it over. These new 3 cases how long have they been back for? The girl has been to school ect..

Yes, there will be more cases, and there may even be deaths here, as indeed there certainly will be from other illnesses.

We don't know the full facts regarding the poor little baby in the US. This must be stressed that it might of had other health problems.

France have the right idea they are in talks wth other EU about stopping all flights from everywhere in Europ to Mexico and this is something I agree with.

Like the gent stated above Mexico will play this down and try keep it quiet because they are worried about there financial future. I bet this is why the holidaymakers arriving back was unaware of what was going odd.

This is true. We must keep in mind they we have deaths every year from Flu. However usually it's seasonal flu and regonised thats why we don't hear about it that often.

I live near to Torbay

dcfc I think we will all be in this situation soon. It's bound to happen. Let's at present take the positive about the friends/family of the two scots being negative.

Let's hope it's a flu picked up in Mexico but only a mild flu and maybe Mexico has a few other problems, I..E Hygiene near pig farms ect. The death of the baby in the US is a worry but like I said the poor little thing might of had another health problem.

It's no suprise that the US have alot of confirmed cases, they have a large Mexican population there and also more direct links into Mexico. The interesting thing is , had the 6 Canadians all been to Mexico? If someone could tell me I'd appreciate it.

It's also no suprise that we are the next highest number of confirmed cases as Mexico is a very popular holiday destination amoung Brit.

Can someone also tell me wether the UK is used for Connecting flights to Mexico from Eastern Countries?

The problem is going to be tat if this is human-human(2nd phase) US will play a huge part in the development obviously.

The first suspected case in Mexico was the 18th MARCH so over a month now and yet still only 7 confirmed deaths from the flu others are still pending. If it's confirmed only 7 then this at present is a positive in some way.

The first case in the US was confirmed on the 21st April rising to 9 within days and now standing at 65 in 8 days.

You have to wonder that in the early stage of this say all the way back to the 18th MARCH how many people may of come back with this flu and not relised? I wonder if anyone has tackled the symptons without seeking medical help? Alot of people have had coughs and colds in the last month but many put it down to the sudden rise and fall of temps in the UK at this time of year.

Cath, has it not occured to you, that for a disease with only a 7 day incubation period and with frenetic virulent properties, that there isn't much of an epidemic?

Work it out, 1000's of people would have died by now. Millions would be VERY ill.
Including reporters, medics and travel workers.

I didn't think you were fishing, I thought you were just a bit gullible, and taking it to heart.
Now I just think you're nuts.

UK TAKE NOTEAND FOLLOW PLEASE....

Russia

The health ministry recommends Russian citizens avoid trips to Mexico. Aircraft personnel arriving from the Americas have been instructed to look out for passengers with flu-like symptoms. Planes on which cases are suspected should be taxied to special zones, and passengers and crews examined by medics. Curbs have been imposed on meat imports from Mexico, a number of US states and the Caribbean.

Ukraine

Imports of live pigs and pork meat from countries where cases of swine flu have been recorded, including Mexico, the US, Canada and New Zealand, have been banned. All shipments received after 21 April will be subject to the ban.

Greece

Passengers coming from countries where swine flu has occurred are being tracked and doctors at the airport will carry out checks. The country has "strategic stocks" of Tamiflu and other anti-viral medication.

Thailand
The government has 320,000 courses of Tamiflu stockpiled. GPO, a state-owned drug-maker, can produce 1m capsules of generic Tamiflu if needed. Temperature screening checkpoints are in place at international airports in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and **et. The main targets for the thermal scanners were passengers on eight routes - from France, Tokyo, Dubai, Frankfurt, London, Chicago, Los Angeles and Texas - which had connecting flights from Mexico. Suspected cases of new arrivals will be put under close surveillance for three to five days during their stay in Thailand.

Cambodia

The authorities have taken protective measures including setting up thermal scanners at airports to check arriving passengers for possible swine flu cases. Prime Minster**Sen has made a personal plea for Cambodians to continue to eat pork as usual. "The infection does not come by eating pork," he said.

China

The authorities appear to have learned the lessons of previous deadly virus outbreaks such as the H5N1 avian flu and Sars (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), and this time around have been quick to share information with the WHO. The central government has put in place a joint prevention and control system and hospitals have been told to report any suspected cases of swine flu swiftly. The official press is primed to report swiftly on cases of infection.

Citizens have been advised not to make tourist trips to Mexico and body temperature checks on passengers and crew at ports of entry have been re-introduced. Stockpiles of disease control equipment, anti-viral drugs and clinical equipment have been increased. China has also banned imports of pork and pork products from Mexico and the US states of Texas, Kansas and California

Interesting.

The little girld in Torbay was actually on the same plane as the two Scottish couple.

This is my point about all the farkers coming back. They should be put in hostle straight as they get off the plane and kept there for 7days untill passed clear.

You've been boring me since yesterday, cath.
I have great trouble with stupid people, sorry I can't ignore you.

There are not many concerned people, thankfully.
My only concern is that there might be. A frightened population is a far bigger worry than a few people having a cold.

People like you, and the media, cause far more grief than you stop.

How many people have been killed on roads since 18th March

Do yourself a favour. Listen to what they (news people) are ACTUALLY saying. It's all scaremongering.
Leaflets are a sop for twits like you.
If everyone started adopted your ridiculous attitude, it wouldn't be long before people were shot for being suspected of being carriers.
All travel would stop and there would be no food in the shops.
