Christ is she still banging on! The only significantly difference in the progress of this since what we were initially told is that it's a lot less serious in terms of its mortality rate than feared. The papers and politicians are losing interest, it's not headline news any more.

no jinx, because it's a new disease. Obviously if you start form a very small number, you're going to get larger numbers. If NOBODY on Earth had had the flu before, and it were introduced, the numbers would rise dramatically.

jinx, there are 2 main reasons it is spreading fast:
1) because it is a novel virus no one has any immunity to it. 2) it's highly contageous none of means that a pandemic that takes lives is certain. cath, you are still confusing something being relatively likley with it being a certainty. Will you admit that we have no idea when/if it will mutate? do you understand that mutations are random, and that their effect? and your scaremongering about a cross-mutaition between strains. This has never been show to occour. You just make it up as you go along. |

100,000 new cases a day come August re the news tonight. I saw that as well, and had to laugh at it. They reckoned they used "computer modelling" to predict what the rate was going to be. They said this just to sound like they know what they were talking about, in reality they just got a graph and drew a line straight upwards and said "oh look, if it carries on at the same rate it will reach 100,000 a day". They seemed to ignore the fact that the graph will level off at some point, this could happen at any point and is impossible to predict. Typical scare tactics again from the BBC. |

because there is no real threat from swine flu. it's propaganda - symptoms are no worse than normal flu. the danger is in the vaccines which it appears may be intentionally contaminated
