600 people worldwide have it ffs
now WHO saying virus "not as serious as first feared" what a surprise |
|

Any Pandemic would affect 1000's, quickly, before it made the news this thing has.
A few weeks of massive virulence would affect people, as mentioned before, at an exponential rate. Politicians, worldwide, are loving this. Populations see them uniting against a 'common enemy' even though the enemy is a relatively gentle virus! |

I've done the Plug, and the Lego brick, and banged my hand on the edge of the table when taking a 'power shot' at snooker. worse than walking into a table corner though study? you know the type when its just above your knee....... |

Cath, you are indeed correct when you say that the second wave is the one we have to watch out for (if it actually occurs). What I will add though, is that the 1918 pandemic started out killing 1 in every 10 that it infected and the follow up was of a similar rate... perhaps even less pro-rata, as it was assumed that virtually everyone caught it to some degree... food for thought?

Really? What have I misunderstood?
|
|
By:
as I thought, no response.
From my understanding, reading via the net, watching a few documentaries and so forth, I have been led to believe that the bug came out in the spring, on an American base. 500 soldiers were infected and out of those nearly 50 died... or one in ten. If this is wrong I'll stand corrected but I can only go by what I've read and understood. The bug then cleared and some of these soldiers were sent to Europe where the bug picked up again, infecting each of the warring factors, who in turn returned this bug home. It is estimated that 50% of the population may have caught the bug and some sites assume that it could have hit everyone to a lesser degree. Either way, the death toll was considered around 2.5%-5% although this figure varies considerably from site to site. The only thing I have been able to establish is that most sites consider that it didn't top 10% making the statistics no worse than the initial outbreak in the spring. I accept you cannot judge 500 against millions but the bottom line is that the facts didn't get worse than the initial outbreak and, if the current outbreak in any way resembles that of 1918 then like most on here, I feel there is very little to be concerned about. Now if I have misunderstood all this then I will gladly accept your version of events. I'm am keen to learn and this is how I have understood it so far. I would be grateful if you would reply in text rather than the above smug comment. Thank You :) |

First case reportedin Mexico in March, look at the date today and see how many in Mexico have had swine-flu in this time, also keep in mind that many had swine-flu before it was first reported also. Now think of how many cases we will have in the next month.
It is still s huge concern. Mexico reporting that it's mainly young people it's hitting, hardly any over 50's. Now this is exactly the same Pattern that Spanish Flu had in 1918. Phase 2 and 3 was when it got out of control. Hopefully we have time on our hands to get a vaccine done. |

Just think of the panic if we ever have Cat Flu, chit chat deserted ;)

They are here on holiday but go back tomorrow so will let them know, if my Mum caught anything like that it would probably finish her off as she is not well Thanks again for telling me, haven´t been watching the news for awhile.

(On a) Mission control back in full swing after a weekend off for itself and the virus.
OK Fruitloop, what %age of the world's population has been infected so far? (we'll assume a 10% death rate from that, eh?) |
