Yeah - and whilst your at it stop making jokes about cancer, motor cars, airplanes, Parkinsons Disease, senile dementia, depression, war, pestillence and poodles falling off a 12th floor balcony 'cos people have died of those too, in fact you'd best draw a line through Tourettes Syndrome, Dyslexia, and 'having a runny nose' as people who suffer from these don't think it's funny either.

Actually no. E4 seems obsessed with getting me to sponsor a dog. I've not had that leaflet thingy either. Don't tell me they've forgotten about Stoke, again?

No Sparks... in fact Stoke was one of the first considered ;)

Most 'will recover' from swine flu.
The UK will see "many more cases" of swine flu as the virus spreads but most people will make a good recovery, the Government's Chief Medical Officer has said. Professor Sir Liam Donaldson said he was "concerned but not alarmed" after the World Health Organisation (WHO) raised the alert level to phase five of six. Sir Liam told BBC Breakfast: "Most people who get flu, even a new strain of flu, will make a good recovery. It's a nasty illness but it's short and they will recover." http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090430/tuk-most-will-recover-from-swine-flu-6323e80.html The media will be seething imo. |

Thousands?
|
|
By:
If this goes to Pandemic it could be thousands in this country alone, if not a Million +
This won't be over in a Month it will last all summer and phase 2 will be the winter strain which could be even more deadly, this is why we need to get things in place now. |

The governments are doing all they can Cath and what is clear by their actions and also the live Presidents speech last night is that they really don't give a feck about border controls. In other words, it still remains level Que Sara Sara
|
|
By:
To late for border controls now it seems. Alreadya good spread of this flu worldwide and not seems it's passing human-human in thos not been to Mexico.
Unfortunately we are the piggy in the middle of many countries, they all pass through us one or another. Let's face we keep letting the Polish come in and out as if there braces are caught on Dover Docks. |

if and could Cath, not will.

Sorry typing is terrible, one eye on the tele the other answering the phones and trying to type.

Apparently, if reports are to be believed, this started in February yet the first case of a death outside of Mexico was only yesterday. Not exactly road runner material is it?
|
|
By:
Are you speaking Mexican now, Cath?
I tell you what, if millions die in the UK from swine flu, and you and I are among the lucky few left, I will pay for you to go on an all-expenses paid holiday to Acapulco. First class all the way, 5 star hotel, the full Montezuma. |

Aspro
This is where many like yourself get confused, this has been bubbling away in Mexico for sometime thats why the numbers are higher there, obviously it takes time then to start spreading out the Country and to other parts. With USA now having alot of Mexicans either living or working in the country it was only a time before it entered the US. You can clearly see now the steady climb in cases over there and you have been told that some cases are now worse than just mild flu. Given time maybe a month or two we could be looking at the same widespread swine flu in this country and obviously with the more cases there will be more serious cass also. |
|
By:
Could be as awful as the Millenium bug.
|
|
By:
lol O you tight git... apparently only 220,000 died in 1918... at least give him/her some decent odds

No thanks because I would take no pleasure in being right and hope that I am completely wrong to worry about this. |

500,000 and she's on her way, Aspro.
I'm nothing if not generous ;) |

"you have been told that some cases are now worse than just mild flu"
No sh*t, Sherlock. Just like some cases of conventional flu. |

"you have been told that some cases are now worse than just mild flu" No sh*t, Sherlock. Just like some cases of conventional flu. Your a Liverpool fan so I'll forgive your stupidness. Seasonal Flu does kill, but does not kill as many as whats happend in Mexico in such a short time in one Country. |
|

Most sane thing you've said yet |
|
By:
200+ just come back from Mexico on one of them special flights.
They say they hardly anything was said about it over in Cancun, but some did say once hotel staff was wearing masks they relised they had to get out and get back home. No wonder it's spreading so much in Mexico. I can't believe selfish dossers deciding to finish there holidays before coming back, I'd almost like them to cath it but then they would be back over here with it. Don't think to yourself I've had flu before i.e Millenium flu because your body regonizes seasonal flu so you have some fight against it, but this flu is totally different. |

A couple of hundred deaths in 6 weeks in a country with almost double the population of the uk and a very dense city population?
I think you'll find that corresponds pretty closely to the flu death toll in the uk in any winter where there's a serious winter flu outbreak (and the UK vaccinates large numbers of people against flu, whereas in the case of swine flu there is no vaccine, so you would expect the toll to be significantly higher in Mexico than the uk). |
|
By:
Are you really a Liverpool fan Pool?
|
|

That would be telling. Cath's obviously not heard of Hartlepool or Blackpool.

LOL of course the population in Mexico is biggger and yes this would show more deaths but this is only just the start of things so looking at the death toll now in Mexico does not give The Worlds Health Organization the answers. The death toll will grow and grow in Mexico over the next few months. They could potentially have 150 deaths cases confirmed over the last Month with 1,600 confirmed cases in a month this will keep growing. The UK could be a month or two behind. You can't compare the numbers in Mexico at present |
|
By:
Well unless this flu is actually less contagious than winter flu, you can compare the death rate as if infection rate is comparable, then so is the rate of spread and the size of the affected population.
|
|
By:
Why do we get so many looney/pretendy women on here?

how many deaths in Mexico this last week?

You can't compare the deaths of 90 year olds with 20 year olds.

"potentially" is the key word. The confirmed deaths count was reduced as further tests were done, suggesting that in fact many of those "potential" deaths aren't down to swine flu.
I'm not suggesting complacency, I'm just arguing against hysteria. |

Dear oh dear..got right one here With seasonal flu only small parts of it change the mian strain stays the same so your body over years can react to it and fight it most of them tiem. With this swine-flu it's made up of different strains that our bodies won't recongzise therefore more of a danger. |
