By:
This is total balderdash.
The BBC and other dumbed down pap media has alot to answer for. Interviewing neighbours of a scottish honeymoon couple, who it turns out are not all that ill actually. Why are people so thick? STOP PANICKING. |
By:
complete non story.
worse than the snow we had in january for appalling newsworthyness |

Let's all listen to you then shall we?
The virus began in Mexico some weeks ago, it will take time to get underway in other countries. We have already seen an increase in cases in the USA in time these will no doubt unfortunately lead to deaths. Thw Two in Scotland have the virus they are the first two reported and therefore being cared for, 7 people that they were in contact with now seem to have the virus, this shows how it spreads, once we get the same number of cases as Mexico we will be in trouble, The USA is already on way to that target. Now who's thick? |
By:
Cath, you wont need to get it as you will have worried yourself to death by the time it gets to you.
By:
Only seems to have been fatal in mexico though. Other sufferers reporting mild symptoms.
It doesn't sound as bad as a "man-cold" to me. No that's nasty. |
By:
It's called taking an interest, wanting to know the facts. Give it 3 weeks or so and we will see if the same people don't take this seriously.
I obviously hope I am completely wrong about the whole thing and hopefully people like you lot were right not to give a **e and show concern. |

Only seems to have been fatal in mexico though. Other sufferers reporting mild symptoms. It doesn't sound as bad as a "man-cold" to me. No that's nasty Fatal in Mexico because they have had it for atleast 3-4 weeks already and therefore have more cases of swine flu 1,600 so obviously the risk of death is going to be higher than say the 50 cases in the USA. But once USA get to around the saem number of cases as Mexico we may start to see deaths there and so on.... |

its level 4 of 6 now
WHO says 'flu can no longer be contained' fat lot of good they were then. huge amounts wasted on them and their offices. please dont let gordon be next in charge |
By:
Who cares?
By:
Cath, I just dont care because if i'm gonna die, i'm gonna die. It'll happen one day, there's nothing you can do it about it. The one thing i'm not going to do is sit there panicking over every little thing whether it be...sars, avian flu, salmonella, bse or anything else.
By:
they will give you some oinkment i think although they had no tweetment for the bird flu ;)

Cath....
Bird Flu, SARS, Ebola (far and away the worst), etc etc etc, over the years. News people love a bandwagon, people love to jump on one. EVERYTHING is MASSIVELY exagerrated. Drug company shares rise, holiday company shares drop, Government has special meetings (just incase the .05% chance of anything to worry about comes to any fruition), for political mileage - because they know the media will follow it. Comparisons are made to normal winter 'Flu' which isn't bleeding Flu in the 1st place - Flu is a horrible disease, what nearly everyone gets is a cold - they're still getting colds, but now they're panicking too. Would horses wouldn't be able to drag me infront of a TV with Sky news on it right now. This is an overblown Non-Story, and everyone can start thinking about themselves again because of it.... stocking up on food, and worrying for nothing. If you were that worried about being killed, you'd never get in a car, or go near a road.... How many people have been killed this way, worldwide in the last week? Fecking Media :( |

Svine!

By:
well said study, apart from the would horses bit.
By:
I wasn't specifically calling you thick, cath (sorry, it did read like that)
More alluding to the gullibility of people generally in this country. There are alot of idiots about. |
By:
Quite rigt *WILD horses would not induce me in front a TV with Sky news on it.
By:
I think Cath is doing a first class job myself... aint read a paper since
By:
Cath,
you're being silly. Women often are. There is no need to start worrying people and causing a panic before there is a declared pandemic, at which point there are measures and precedures in place by people with far more knowledge and experience on the subject than yourself who i'm sure can deal with this. There is precicly nothing you can do about this. Get on with your life, go and enjoy the fresh air and stop worrying. You're not helping other people by being a news ticker. Not everybody wants to know every detail. There is a lot to be said for blissful ignorance. |
By:
I really hope you are right study but I have alot of irons in the fire and there is a big concern much bigger than that of bird-flu. Bird-flu didn't really manage to spread from birds-humans and then humans-humans. This swine-Flu does.
If this turns into the Pandemic one of the hob knobs have said BEST case on death toll would be around 50,000 but worse case could be millions. Huge supplies of tami-flu already being sent out to GPs across the country that shows the concern. Flights starting to be cancelled, that shows the concern. If this was a Non Story they wouldn't me taking the measures that they have started to do now. |
By:
Has anyone said they're telling porkies yet? Shudder the thought...
By:
That depends Cath... there could be another motive. In times like this its good to read what are under the main headlines
By:
Talking hob-nobs is another symptom.
By:
Yes but the tamiflu was'nt made for this. It was made during the avian flu saga. So they havent started to panic produce it.
By:
They've named the swine flu bringer backers. Burn them!

rustyboy 28 Apr 13:25
. You either choose to read the thread or you don't. I bet many actually would like to talk about it without being told to calm down and stop being thick. If people like yourself wait untill they say right thats it Pandemic started we are all farked, then thats when the country will become doomed. Measures need to be in place NOW. We don't want deaths in this country before we start to actually do something about it. Now make sure you wash your hands. |
By:
I'd tend to be more cynical, Cath.
How full were the cancelled flights? How much budget in the NHS is spare to buy anti-vir stocks? How much to the Pigs and Vultures of the press fancy some free trips all over the place expenses paid? How many publicity craving 'Scientists' want to see themselves on TV or better still get the chance to sell some 'Expetise' to some magazines? How much deflection from real problems can politicians obtain? The answers to these and many more....... |

Yes but the tamiflu was'nt made for this. It was made during the avian flu saga. So they havent started to panic produce it We had the stocks already here and tami-flu you are right, this wasn't made for this. Tami-flu will just deal in making the flu feel less worse thats if it does it job at all. Once or IF this turns to a Pandemic it will still take around 6 MONTHS for medicine to be produced that will fight swine-flu. 6 MONTHS hear you say....exactly no good 6 motnhs..we could have thousands of deaths by then already if this swine flu continues to grow and spread likes it doing now. |
By:
if BBC are to be believed, 150 dead in mexico and the bar has been raised to '4' ... 2 short of Pandemic... what are 1-2 & 3?

STUDYFORM 28 Apr 13:21
Bird Flu, SARS, Ebola (far and away the worst), etc etc etc, over the years. Ebola can't become a pandemic. It's an animal disease with no equivalent in humans, so you can't get a hybrid like you do with flu. Only people very close to infected ebola cases can get it as it's spread by body fluids, not sneezes. Ebola can only cause small, local outbreaks. Hope this helps. |
By:
STOP IT. I'm being serious now. You're getting hysterical.
Why are you talking about deaths? No one has dies outside of Mexico and even some of those are old people who could have died from complications/other conditions. Don't talk about what you don't know. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to implement these measures you talk of?? I bet you complain about wasted government money when the argument suits... |

1. Mrs McWorter reports a sniffle to her GP
2. Local vet reports 3 animals have a runny nose. 3. Local GP reports Mrs McWorters sniffle COULD be due to the 3 animals with a runny nose. HTH |

When contracting swine flu what are our chances of survival?

STUDYFORM 28 Apr 13:31
I'd tend to be more cynical, Cath. How full were the cancelled flights? I'll answer this one. I presume and would expect the flights to be completely full. It's the start of the holiday season and a bank holiday on the way. The other questions I can't really answer but these reports do a great job where ever they go, including putting there life at risk in war zones. It would be easy to turn the tv,radio and computer off and close our eyes and forget about whats happening in the world but sometimes we need to just face facts that this is happening. Who was the person that said a huge amount of the worlds population would die from flu/virus ? Also predicted the terroist attacks? |

mexican swine flu..
much more serious than its viral little sister, singapore sniffles |
