does the bible at any point refer to a nuclear attack on the US or indeed anything else you predicted Tony?

ah, never mind, let's just celebrate the fact that all those people you thought would died horribly are still alive! GREAT STUFF!

Tony?

I assume you agree all those people you thought were going to die in a nuclear strike, haven't, iis a good thing, from where you're standing? As you know, I was always in the 'that's **' camp. but even if I had agreed with you, it's great that loads of people haven't died, like you thought they would, isn't it?

well, i am of the humble opinion that judgement began at the time i predicted, no nuclear attack, but a begiining of 'the fall' ...ah yes, the thread header....and america is falling, began economically, don't yer know?
However, that doesnt preclude us from God's love,as i mentioned before, sometimes man needs a sharp reminder of his needs, people in the usa will be getting that now, specially with all those jobs disappearing on a daily basis, the streets full of mass crime, fear of terrorism, fear of pandemics too if truth be told....timing wrong - overall prognosis - correct.

Absolutely, TB. Save for the small qualification ...

Timing wrong, events wrong, country wrong, outcome wrong.

Other than that, spot on.

I, however, the MIGHTY Orioles, can tell you that, within the next 10 years, a great catastrophe will occur (not including Newcastle United being relegated which, let's face it, is nailed on).

Chicken Licken

There are many versions of the story, but the basic premise is that a chicken eats lunch one day, and believes the sky is falling down because an acorn falls on her head. She decides to tell the King, and on her journey meets other animals who join her in the quest. In most retellings, the animals all have rhyming names such as Henny Penny,**y Lockey and Goosey Loosey. Finally, they come across Foxy Loxy, a fox who offers the chicken and her friends his help.

After this point, there are many endings. In the most famous one, Foxy Loxy eats the chicken's friends, but the last one, usually**y Lockey, survives long enough to warn the chicken and she escapes. Other endings include Foxy eating them all; the characters being saved by a squirrel or an owl and getting to speak to the King; the characters being saved by the King's hunting dogs; even one version in which the sky actually falls and kills Foxy Loxy.

Depending on the version, the moral changes. In the "happy ending" version, the moral is not to be a "Chicken", but to have courage. In other versions the moral is usually interpreted to mean "do not believe everything you are told". In the latter case, it could well be a cautionary political tale: The Chicken jumps to a conclusion and whips the populace into mass hysteria, which the unscrupulous fox uses to manipulate them for his own benefit, sometimes as supper.

well sparkmaster, ill let u know when u let me know ur motives for bringing up this thread again?
Is the motive to make the looney christian look foolish?
To make yourself look amusing?

As for people who resort to namecalling, ie crackpot, and youre pretty certain I happen to be one, then it aisnt very nice of you to make fun of the mentally challenged is it? I mean, I'm mad and youre reiterating the fact..why don't you mae fun of every person who holds a slghtly differing opinion to yourself? after all, you must be perfect!
With ref to mexico, pool, the people there arent any different to aynone else, people are prone to infectious diseases, all part of being human, as indeed, is the freedom to choose if you believe in God, or live without him.

I said america will fall, it is falling, if you cant see there is something going on in the world there is something wrong with you, but i guess in the country of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

I put forward, under pressure for dates, another man's viewpoint, a man who called himself a prophet...i added little thoughts of my own on the subject as i am interested in end times scenarios and study of world events ie how the world is run by people who want to decrease world population....although there was no nuclear attack in may, the period itslelf heralded the START of the downfall of the usa...but you appear to think that everything is dandy over there in spite of the fact that its undergoing its worst economic upheaval since 1929..things will get worse, and they WILL undergo a major terrorist attack....it seems strange how, looking at posts from the detractors, some of you are now jumping on the bandwagon and making your own light hearted predictions, you didnt do that last year though...but now your nt so sure , what with the current climate being what it is, you actually know that something's really amiss.

To sparkmaster, you keep on about my motives ie am i glad that my prediction (or weinlands) hasnt come true...i would say look at the fundamnetalist christians within power over in the good ol' usa who actually believe in bringing about armageddon by whatever means....i do not hold such views..so stop asking me!

apologies it was far from trouble, but u were still dying to ak me again though!
I have just told u i dont agree with people who want to help bring about armageddon...what dou think my motives are? if anything happened, im hardly likely to come on here and gloat...its a no win scenario for everybody...so yes maybe your right and its better that i look like a t it than for someone to bring up the thread to discuss the deaths of millions.

Irrespective of the God debate, this statement illustrates an error which leads to much unhappiness and is common among people experiencing depression. How can someone else (or for that matter any external agent) make us unhappy? Happiness resides and originates from within us. No person, possession or external event can take happiness (or any emotion) out of our minds or put it in. The idea is nonsensical. We are all the (admittedly, largely unwitting) authors of our own emotions and world-views, whether we act as though it is the case or not.

Can't make you out at all Tony. The conventional wisdom is to suggest we atheists can't live a goodly and moral life without a god and bible to guide us. We atheists cannot never be happy without an after-life, a rson for living and reunion with past loved ones to look forward to. We atheists cannot live a happy life with nothing after to look forward to at the end.
But now - you are quite openly announcing your own depression. Have your prayers not been answered have your fellow believers failed to you support in your time of need? Strange one.

When: 30 Apr 09 14:29
my beliefs are very non conventional ivor, you may already be aware of that, i dont attend a 'church' so there is no one to support me, this doesn't mean that the established church is right because the way i see it a christian should actually believe in the bible and not try to water the contents down.
However, i find it near impossible myself to live the christian life, maybe my depression stems at least partly, from that.
There is a great deal of frustration for believers, even more so than for non believers, as we see things we dont understand, and yet the knowledge that God is there makes it all the more difficult to understand what is going on.
I take in slarty's quotes, but im afraid that external stimuli DO affect one's state of happiness, specially if you happen to be a thinking person.

sorry aspro...bloomin eck itd take a while to answer properly and then u get everyone coming on again asking stuff...its hard when ur on your own on here!
I define God through what i know about him but if u mention the bible it gets ridiculed...i believe i have everything i need through the person of Jesus christ...because the christian belief is the only one where you have an actual relationship with God ...once youve neen forgiven of sins of course
thank you ivor for your understanding... sorry about the hound....i do admire you all - even orioles !! has given me a good seeing to..perhaps i deserved it.

They can and do yes, Tony. But do they have to? No. Now there's the trick.

The subjective world we live in is our own creation. It cannot be changed without changing ourselves. It is like trying to change oneslf by drawng on one's reflection in a mirror.

Look for the good in everything and you will find it. Look for the opposite and it too appears.

"The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven." - John Milton (poet)

A story (paraphrased as I cannot find the orginal):
A traveller visiting a foreign land met an old man sitting under a tree.
The traveler asked: "How are the people in your land?".
The old man replied by asking the traveller: "How are the people in your land?"
The traveller answered that they were mean and argumentative and were concerned only for themselves.
"You will find them much the same in my land," said the old man, and with that the traveller continued on his way.
Some time later another traveller arrived at the same tree and asked the old man the same question. Again the old man replied asking the traveller: "How are the people in your land?"
This time the traveller said they were kind, peaceful and eager to help each other.
"You will find them much the same in my land," came the old man's reply.
