yes Easter.

By:
Eyeball..........Saw him arrested in a crack house in Amhurst Rd about 2 years ago.
He still sits on the bench in that road opposite the chicken shop. Terrible waste. |
By:
Easter, you are indeed correct, it was the 10th....and yes, very poor refereeing. Would've been stopped if it'd taken place in the UK.
Hats off to the fighters, though you can't help feel that that was a career shortening fight for both of them. |

for watching in a pub , barry mguigan v pedrosa was top notch .
agree about benn v the g man and eubank v watson . great fights . first fight benn and eubank was a classic for not knowing though . two great fighters |
By:
The punch that ended the Eubank Watson fight was the most awesome I have seen. Have felt guilty ever since for having enjoyed the fight so much

There are so many to choose, it's hard to say which is my favourite.
I think though, for guile and pitting of wits/talent, 'Sugar Ray Leonard V Marvellous Marvin Hagler' deserves a mention. |

Sugar Ray Robinson v Jake Lamotta. Watched Raging Bull and thought the fight was depicted in the usual over the top Hollywood way until i saw old footage of the fight. It was under the top!

what about great ko's?
don curry v milton mccrory (left hook after about 4 mins - mccrory unbeaten til then) azumah nelson v pat cowdell (uppercut 30 secs? cue brummie sobbing "i've let everyone down") julian jackson v herol graham (come on, you were just pleading for someone to finally nail him!) tommy hearns v roberto duran (old hands of stone wishes he'd said "no mas" again) sam tindall v percy sugden (ok not quite a ko, sugden killed if ref pearce hadn't stepped in tho) |
By:
Archie Moore v Ezzard Charles. The punch travelled about two feet.
By:
jeez campo you really are showing your age. you're too old for mr ben and can remember archie moore!! where were you when lincoln was assassinated?
By:
It's Grim Up North; Very good indeed !
I'm sure he'll never be required to step up to heavyweight though. Campo, can't remember ever seeing old footage of Moore fight. Sounds like one to try and see if ever possible. Please carry on everyone, one of the best threads on here. I've got to go again now. |

Danny McAlinden vs Richard Dunn was very enjoyable - but not a classic.

mine was - Cantona v The fans

Easter some great KO's there. Though Herol Graham was probably the most talented UK fighter ever to box from these shores IMO, so Julian Jackson getting lucky was not a particular favourite of mine.
Don Curry vs Milton McCrory...oh yes! I seem to remember Mike McCallum doing something similar to him though. Gerald McClellan KO of Julian Jackson, Nigel Benn KO of Iran Barkley, Lennox ko ing Golota and Antonia Tarver sparking Roy Jones all very memorable for me. Personnal favourite KO of mine was the Michael Bentt ko of Tommy Morrison. Morrison bombing away....and then kerbooooom, suddenly facing the stars!!! |
By:
Cassius Clay [as he was then] v Cleveland Williams. Saw some old footage recently, not so much a great fight but a boxing masterclass from the greatest! Every punch seemed to land!

Sabre
sorry to correct you but that fight was in November 1966, and by then he was already Muhammad Ali. He changed his name upon joining the Nation of Islam after the second Sonny Liston fight (May 65) and before his next fight, which was against Floyd Patterson (Nov 65) |
By:
I stand corrected Campo.
By:
Sit down mate, it's more comfortable.
By:
Thats what Ali said to Williams!
By:
Interestingly enough it was the fight after Williams, against Tyrell, in the same place, Houston Texas, that I enjoyed more.
Tyrell refused to call him Ali and insisted upon Clay. Ali thumped him around that ring, all the time shouting ' What's my name ?' and if Tyreell didn't answer, he blitzed him again, but never enough to knock him out. Realistically, the fight was so one-sided the referee should have stopped it, but in those days if the one getting battered had half a chance of landing a a knockout blow, he was allowed to carry on. Perhaps the referee had backed Tyrell to get lucky !!!!! |

on my list of great ko's i omitted jim watt's 'well thought out' disposal of sean o'grady "the bubblegum kid". he could blow bubbles through his forehead after watt had launched himself headfirst at him!
By:
and cj you are right about mccallum v curry. curry totally dominated for 5 rounds until mccallum threw a left hook that joe frazier would have been proud of. it started on the floor! cost me money as i had unwisely laid "the bodysnatcher" to my landlord at 4/1!!

For all the folk on this thread'
Can i give a 5 star reccomendation for the book "War Baby"..(The Glamour Of Violence) by Kevin Mitchell. it gives a brilliant insight into the Benn v McLellan fight. Sorry to be a bit sentimental, but my old boy was a boxing fanatic and passed away last year.In his last few months ,i made him read it and he thought it was the best sports book he had ever read. |

on my list of great ko's i omitted jim watt's 'well thought out' disposal of sean o'grady "the bubblegum kid". he could blow bubbles through his forehead after watt had launched himself headfirst at him! I was trying to remember that fight but could'nt recall the names of the boxers,O'grady was never the same after that, but deserved to win that fight. |
