Thinking back, it must be Millwall. Only game I've ever been to where death was serious possibility.
Locals seemed to be a strange hybrid of human/pit bulls. |

Hoxton and Shoreditch used to have some real hard men, but are now two of the trendiest areas to live in.

I think the sheer size of London town means it has the highest ratio of slums, possibly.
When in Streatham last yr i awaoke to find a dead dog on a neighbours doorstep yet council wouldnt move it,yet throughtout the day the corpse moved from doorway to doorway as each shop that opended simply moved the dead dog to the next doorway! it ended up rolled up in a carpet with no head.Summed up the area nicely though. |

Once walked all the way through Deptford. I would not do it again. Why's that then ? Afraid you'd get attacked by a gang of whites ? |

The worst place I can remember visiting was Silvertown. Like something from a war zone. Silvertown is part of Newham, sandwiched between Canning Town and North Woolwich to its east and west, and Custom House to its north. It used to have lots of large of factories along the aptly named Silvertown Way, but these days the big ones have gone. Pinchin & Johnson (paint mfgrs) Bacofoil (moved to south Wales) Charles Kendall (packed up trading) to name just 3. The biggest employer now is the City Airport, I think the forumite salsabil works there. |

My mate is a sensitive soul, born in the lake district ffs, and he lived in Hackney with no qualms for years. Just walked through it all like mr magoo. Idiot imo. Brilliant stuff On the politics forum you have the audacity to have a go at me for highlighting crime in Newham. |

Barking deserves a mention Coachbuster 10 Jan 15:52 Careful,or you'll have the geography police on your back !!! Geography Police Comissioner signing in :) It's the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. As a Londoner, I insist that it's not east London. Any district in east london has an E. as part of its postcode. E.6 (East Ham) joins on to Barking, which strictly speaking, is in Essex. E.12 (Manor Park - known as Manure Park to locals) joins on to Ilford, which is in Essex. Dopy newspaper reporters who think Romford is in east London should be made to walk there from East Ham (the eastern most point of Newham, and east London) so they can see how far away Romford actually is. Expect it to take two hours. |

Anybody who remembers the ex-Newham resident Cupid Stunt aka Oedipus Rex aka Nobby Cheese, who was another one not too fond of the grevilles, and he's a year older than me.
On anither forum somebody (may have been Fresh, can't remember) argued with him that anybody could walk about at any time in London as it was safe. Cupid said to him 'I'll drop you off at Brixton Station at midnight. You'll be carrying a briefcase, a mobile phone and wearing a bit of visible jewellery. All you have to do is walk to Stockwell Station. If you get there without being mugged, I'll give you a monkey ' (£500) The bloke asked Cupid 'What if I get mugged ?' Cupid said ' Hard luck, but you'll owe me nothing.' Unsurprisingly, mister 'Know it all about London but never been there' never took up the challenge. I don't mind a ruck, but I wouldn't try that, not even for a monkey |

I once walked all the way from Bow to Dagenham (to watch D&R play footy vs Boston i think) was a long walk and defo wouldn't consider dagenham or barking or romford part of east london or even london.

I was on the last tube of the night from Morden to Stockwell, had to get off at Stockwell because of engineering and took the bus from Stockwell to Victoria
There was just me and this other guy in this carriage, we were on either sides, and a black guy came on at a stop, he sat down in the middle and he looked so high as kite, the black man kept making threatening advances just through his body language you could see the other guy was sh!tting himself, mind you, the black guy didn't glance at me at all, I wonder why? but nothing happened anyway, but this happened on the only late night tube journey I have made in London in my adult life....I wonder if that's a normal occurrence? |

Once walked all the way through Deptford. I would not do it again. Why's that then ? Afraid you'd get attacked by a gang of whites ? Charlie, are you stalking me? Here is the truth, but you won't like it. That is exactly what I was afraid of. The local scrotes were impressively multi-racial, but were predominantly white. See my earlier post re Millwall, for the first time came close to real panic there one night, didn't see a black face. Hackney is crime-ridden, so what? Comparing it to Norwich by highlighting every crime with cnp not the brightest, for whatever reason. Do something more productive with your time. Start a vigilante squad or something. |
