How can so many people give a **** who is number 1 and like rage against the machine at the same time!?

A well identified pivot of this whole debacle. They obviously don't.
It's a singularly contrived 'straddle' engineered by pure manipulation.

Farcical that anyone sees this as a victory of any real substance.

and your comments about rage against the machine enjoying their five minutes of fame and returnig to obscurity isn't foolish?

No, you're interested in telling people who are interested in the chart not to be, which is far worse. You're wasting time on something you're not interested in, whereas people interested in the chart are using their time on something they are interested in.

Didn't have a bet. Don't care about the charts. Really don't give a toss in any way shape or form.
My only point is that i find it quite depressing that people seem to think that getting up Simon Cowell's nose is some sort of heroic victory. It's not. You are just nobs. Grow up.

The fact its got up YOUR nose that some people think that getting up Simon Cowells nose is " some sort of heroic victory "

" You are just nobs. Grow up "

The irony LOL

i dunno. mixed views for me. nice to see x-factor getting bummed, but a similar campaign was made for Fairytale of New York, in which profits were going to charity and imo a far better track.

Not at all. I'm mocking people (be they interested in the charts or not) who think that some gormless pop band usurping some other gormless pop act is somehow a triumph for ... i don't know who actually.

i'll have to give up with you then i'm afraid, andy. you are big enough to admit on the quiz league announcement thread that you know nothing about anything so it just surprises me you won't admit to knowing nothing on this thread too.

I didn't realise you were against charitable donations Journeyman, I guess that explains your antipathy.

When: 20 Dec 09 19:39
Ok I'm going to bail out here or I'll lose my naturally placid demanour.

Bringing in the charity angle to carpet over a complex issue of mind manipulation
and the destruction of a once thriving UK music industry is not something I'm going to humour.

The concept and banality of the X-Factor drive a lot of people mad, who love music.
A lot of these people whinge and moan about it.

People like to whinge and moan all through life - just go through this thread.

Two people thought Let's do something about it.
We're nobodies, but we'll put a bit of time and effort into doing something.
You never know

They get a totally unexpected result and amidst the acheivement,
the whinging and moaning starts.

Top marks to them for effort, whether the result was worth it or not.

joe will win the lon term battle?? What makes you so sure this talentless bum will perform any better than his predacessors? Is it his incredible dancing ability? Maybe his song-writing genius? How about his massive 1/2 octave range?

Enlighten us, andy, as to what Joe has that makes him so special apart from the X-Factor publicity Juggernaught and a smile that appeals to GMTV viewers?

Andy not great examples there, Leona yes, probably last a while, JLS will fade away again once X Factor hysterial died down and Will Young not heard of in ages. Plus thats a pretty exhaustive list. Have to say Joe is talented but not special, cant see him being different to any of the other flash in the pans.

i think they are good examples, didnt lemar also come from some singing contest?
jls will be around for a long while(imo) will released some great songs, and leona well you agreed with that one
even look at girls aloud

gareth gates had some good songs, now starring as joseph..
im sure there are more but cant think right now..

Those who have it? Will young has sold a few records and probably the best voice of them all, leona lewis has sold out on her dream of being a song-writer and produces the dreadfu,l vacuous cr@p that is the hallmark of Cowell. And JLS, are you seriously saying you think they are really talented?

What I wonder is who, in 20 or 30 years time will be the pop legends like the stones, The Beatles, David Bowie, U2, Queen, Rod Stewart, Elton John, ect. Even in the 80's most of the pop acts like Duran Duran, Erasure, bla bla bla were all organically formed. Engineering pop was done but it wasn't dominating every week.

Would Andy murray have given ugly poofs like freddic mercury or elton john a chance? Unless singers are good looking they have bugger all chance of being sent through to the latter stages because that is not what cowell is after.

what do you look for in a song andy? ALL of these artists are given easy-listening songs that are deviod of any hidden meaning. There is no second dimension and there is no clever word-play, they are written by clever song writers to make them so generic that anyone can relate to something in the song i.e. being hurt/being in love/being alone that is it. What do you find so exciting about this?
By:

fyi, i love queen and elton.. a bit of phil collins..i like some beatles songs.. the list can go on and on etc etc any sort of pop infact.. songs grow on me

I find it hard to explain what i like in songs.. first off i much prefer a male voice to a female voice(although i do still like female singers, whitney, mariah etc etc)
I find songs with different tunes to them, like key changes, such as in a lot of take thats new songs..
lyrics arent as important to me as the tune is, although something i can't stand is a racket where you cant understand the lyrics they are singing

I really just love any type of pop music.. take lady gaga for example.. couldnt stand her music, but bad romance has really grown on me
