Killers yes, but they are only copycats of the biggest pile of pretentious overrated drivel ever to be revered. The fucxking SMITHS...UTTER *****. And i say this as some one who's father was a professional classical musician, Mother a writer and poet. Having learnt several instruments from a young age, sent to a school specifically for it's music course, played in bands, worked in the music industry all my life, and most important of all....am not tone deaf. Could not have put it better myself. Spot on paradox and equilibrium . |

Sorry, am I missing something here?
Loads of people**ging off great bands, but I dont see a single mention of any reality show dross. Surely any credit given to the likes of Girls Aloud is too much credit. Who else? Take That Coldplay - good - but great? no Springsteen was a good call Prince Nirvana |
By:
Nirvana don't get anywhere near the amount of credit they deserve imo, poss because they've become 'owned' latterly by teenage goths/emos.

Nirvana get immortalised because Cobain shot himself, imo

Nirvana don't get anywhere near the amount of credit they deserve imo, poss because they've become 'owned' latterly by teenage goths/emos. well no because goths are more into stuff like cradle of filth not grunge and emos like stuff chemical romance and underoath. not grunge Far From Trouble 07 Dec 18:16 Nirvana get immortalised because Cobain shot himself, imo possibly for a small few. Always been a fan of nirvanas and nothing to do with him killing himself i just like the tunes, liked them before he was dead. |
By:
i'm not saying they aren't decent, I don't mind them tbh
I just think that the amount of credit they get is partly influenced by Kurt Cobain's troubled life and demise. |
By:
They were very big before he died though. I think that opinion has been media driven.
By:
They were just becoming massive, esp in the UK, before Kurt Cobain died. I had tickets to go & see Nirvana at Manchester G-Mex - a gig at what was then Manchester's largest concert venue that had sold out in the days before everyone had internet access.
As for goths/emos I'm happy to be corrected but I'd imagine there's a fair few of them who like Nirvana (enough of them wear the t-shirts). |
By:
Probably, most people like more than 1 category of music.
By:
But i still don't get your point. Im not being confrontational :)
By:
Nor me! My point was that they don't get the credit they perhaps deserve because they're not seen as 'credible' by non-fans whose only exposure to Nirvana is seeing Kurt face or the Nirvana logo on a t-shirt worn by a youth.
Dunno if you saw my Top 100 Gamsty, but I'm into all sorts of different stuff myself - from robotic synthy stuff all the way through to, well, Nirvana for example! |
By:
Hows your chitchat band going? What name did you go with ;)
By:
I almost want to start my own just so i can call it Detonation Of The Echo
By:
just had a look though your 100, some good shouts, i probably listen fairly regularly to ten of them.
By:
Ha ha! :) I knew we'd had a conversation somewhere before! It's called 'Floating Around Somewhere in Cyberspace' as that's where the thread ended
By:
I reckon a band called DETONATION OF THE ECHO would be heavily influenced by Muse
By:
the bankrupts
By:
oh have i subconciously ripped them off? I don't listen to muse as i can't hack his voice.
By:
The Pillock Aces.
By:
Gamsty - I was at Leeds festival a few years back & was faced with the choice of watching Muse or Raconteurs as the last band. I chose the Raconteurs as Mr J White is a musical genius imo
By:
Chilli Peppers deserve a mention, for despite Bloodsugarsexmagic, By The Way and Californication being very good albums in places, they have made some stinkers too. Main reason for inclusion is they have bored the arse off me live twice and have absolutely no on stage dynamic whatsoever.
By:
Blood Sugar Sex Magik was excellent, I thought, yet I couldn't get into any of the others, either before or after!

HRH - I know what you're saying about the 'live' thing - I haven't seen them in the flesh as it were, but I always laugh at how they're all really 'going for it', sweating & popping their veins out, while playing a really humdrum tune!
By:
i agree with you both, listened to bssm non stop when younger. Everything else hasn't been up to that standard.
By:
Very similar to green day how the masses seemed to swarm out of nowhere when they finally released a more charty album. Both very good early on 'ish and pish now.
By:
The Libertines.
By:
Normally agree with you musically Gamsty, but not re Green Day. Become trendy to knock them as they have become 'mainstream' and 16 year olds go to their live shows - but so what. Saw them first on the Dookie tour and that must have been about 95! American Idiot is easily my most played album of the last ten years.
By:
Disapointed to hear that HRH :(
I liked Green Day in the early days(who doesn't like their early stuff?), but anything American idiot or after is woeful imo, just can't get into it. Agree a tad on RHCP though, despite liking them I can see your point. |
By:
I'm not following a trend of knocking them due to them becomeing "mainstream", i genuinely find their newer stuff shlt.
It just doesn't have the melody and edge that some of the older stuff did. I'd add offspring to that little category aswel. The albums smash and ignition are quality but just havn't got into the rest. |
By:
Can't believe nobody has mentioned the abysmal Kasabian yet, almost as overrated as the awful Stereo MCs were when they were in vogue.
By:
Joy Division was a top call but I'd like to add 'Queen'
