Let the Right One in (brilliant Danish horror)
Partridge !! At last a vote for one of my favourite films ![]() But others, please don't confuse this with the american version, although I haven't seen it, the Americans usually butcher foreign hit movies. A warning though, it might not suit some chit chatters as it is an intelligent horror film, not loads of blood and gore. |

It took me a while to get into it Emitdeb.
Watched The Third Alibi on Talking Pictures and thought it was excellent. A composer stuck in a middle-class marriage finds that his affair with his wife's half-sister has resulted in her pregnancy. When his wife refuses to give him a divorce he hatches a murder scheme that is too clever by half. |

Mr. Jones
Based on real events, the dramatic thriller "Gareth Jones" chronicles a British investigative journalist as he travels deep into the Soviet Union to uncover an international conspiracy. His life-or-death journey inspires George Orwell's "Animal Farm". The director of the film is Agnieszka Holland. Very good but a bit grim in parts. |

Parasite_(2019_film)
Parasite (Korean: 기생충; RR: Gisaengchung) is a 2019 South Korean black comedy thriller film directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin-won. Started off well but as it went on I got bored with it. Perhaps it's me? |

Papillon (2017 film)
Plot. Henri "Papillon" Charrière, a safecracker from the Parisian underworld, is framed for murder. Though he has an alibi from his lover, Nenette, Papillon is convicted and condemned to the notorious penal colony on Devil's Island in French Guiana — a hellish prison from which nobody has escaped. Enjoyed this one. Good remake. |

The Professor and the Madman. A modern treat. Full of heavyweights. Even Sean Penn tones down his usual overacting(for the most part anyway)and puts in a great performance.

Before night falls (2000)
Javier Bardem No synopsis does this film justice. Mrs ‘Death does not like films with subtitles but was completely gripped by this one. If shoot you up’s and cgi is not your thing then this might be for you. In the film, Arenas is born in Oriente in 1943 and raised by his single mother and her parents, who soon move the entire family to Holguín. After moving to Havana in the sixties to continue his studies, Reinaldo begins to explore his ambitions, as well as his sexuality. After receiving an honorary mention in a writing contest, Arenas is offered the chance to publish his first work. Through his work and friendships with other openly gay men (such as Pepe Malas and Tomas Diego), Arenas manages to find himself. The political climate in Cuba becomes increasingly dangerous, and in the early seventies Arenas is arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting minors, and for publishing abroad without official consent. In the next decade, he is in and out of prison, attempting and failing to leave the country several times. In 1980, Arenas finally leaves Cuba for the US, starting a new life with his close friend Lazaro Gomez Carriles. A few years later, Arenas is diagnosed with AIDS, and after spending several years suffering he dies in 1990. |

"The Grifters" (1990) with Cusack, Bening and Huston is certainly worth repeated viewings. From the novel by the peerless Jim Thompson.

A film i've never seen mentioned is "The Kite Runner", an excellent story set in Afghanistan in the late 70s up to about early 2000s, basically about the friendship of two young boys one from a wealthy family and one from a poor family, and the title comes from theit love of flying kites. Won't say anymore but film really develops into a very exciting thriller which has a very violent ending.
Don't be put off by the film using subtitles at the start and intermittently throughout, worth a watch imo. |

By the way, if you want to check out something old but different:
Dimentia 1955 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9y4h2I2enlA "This film, with no dialogue at all, follows a psychotic young woman's nightmarish experiences through one skid-row night." Very short film, just under an hour long. There is another film without dialogue, which is definitely worth a watch, called The Thief (1952, Ray Milliand) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R5kmVUAS9g The picture quality is good. These films are not classed as 'silent' movies as such. There are natural sounds and sound effects, just no dialogue. Probably a tricky thing to get right, but they did a good job with the Milland movie. |

Been catching up on a lot of films with this lockdown.
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019) A faded television actor and his stunt double strive to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood's Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles. Got bored with it. Overlord (2018) A small group of American soldiers find horror behind enemy lines on the eve of D-Day. Started off enjoying it but it turned into a torture horror film so switched it off. Rampage (2018) When three different animals become infected with a dangerous pathogen, a primatologist and a geneticist team up to stop them from destroying Chicago. Thought this was pathetic. Ready Player One (2018) When the creator of a virtual reality called the OASIS dies, he makes a posthumous challenge to all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune and control of his world. Switched off after 5 mins |

The problem there bigmo, was that all those films were made in the 2010's. Have to go back some decades to find decent movies
![]() .If never watched it, seek out The Conversation (1974). Coppola and Hackman at their very best. |
|

Talking Pictures is testament to that hfink. Have enjoyed a lot of films on that channel.
