I would be on Native River on very testing ground. Lostintranslation has as much to prove as Santini but does seem to have more speed.
By:
Sage, you seem to have lost the plot. Black Corton was in your reply until it was pointed out how ridiculous it was. Santini is also rated 163 which is higher than Elegant Escape.
You seem to have a vendetta against the poor thing. |
By:
Well if you are looking for horses that don’t have anything to prove you will a) have a very short list and b) even my mum will know about them
By:
Of course novices have to prove themselves, but part of the fun is looking at a novice and trying to suss out their potential.... eg imo Santini and Delta Work would be more suited to a Gold Cup than Lost in Translation.....and then waiting to see if I am proved right or not, and hopefully having nice prices based on my thoughts, come March.
By:
Sage you do seem to have lost the plot mate Al Boum Photo is not Elliott’s!!
By:
Santini needs headgear. PP overpriced.

I was quoting RPR not OR. I don't have a vendetta, I am asking for a good reason to back it. Black Corton was just one of many with RPR comparable with Santini. If it is ridiculous to suggest that Black Corton and Elegant Escape are contenders then it is equally ridiculous to suggest that Santini is one. You will gave gathered that I have little interest in Irish racing.

Refreshingly honest and transparent post sage - don’t agree but kudos

Everyone can have opinions, it would be boring if we all thought the same. I’ll have to eat humble pie when Black Corton storms up the hill to win at 500/1 in March.
One thing I would like to clear up is that Santini is not a hype horse..it was 10/1 and 12/1 and still is. Presenting Percy was a hype horse last year as it was 4/1 and had lots to prove on form and hadn’t run till February. I’m not of the opinion that Santini is amazing value after Sandown but he’s about right until he flops under his conditions. I’m happy enough with my 14/1 Lostintranslation which is now 8/1 (as that ran well no one has commented) ![]() |
By:
I did mention him as having much more speed than Santini but as a second season chaser has a long way to go to reach GC standard. Fair point about 10/1 Hibore but he is still among the favourites in an incredibly open looking year. I repeat that I have no intention of backing Black Corton but I was asked to name a Nicholls contender that might beat Santini and I did.

By:
Santini had a breathing Op. Maybe excuse but perhaps explains his last run if you watch again.
By:
The only winners of the King George were Kemboy, Al Boum and Santini. All shortened....
By:
Don't forget Percy
By:
And Percy
![]() |
By:
er what about the winner ?
By:
Can’t have him at Cheltenham at all. Has less chance this year with some stout stayers in opposition as well.
He’s 0-4 or 0-5 as well around there as well. Kempton is his track. |
By:
no not saying he will win just saying he shortened as well
By:
Only 10 weeks to go and Santini surely has to have a prep run to have any chance in the GC.
By:
He’s running in the Cotswold on trials day. Winner of that will be pushing for favouritism.
By:
nice boost for the rsa form today .
By:
Indeed. Monalee should have won today..if that is good enough to beat Kemboy, PP ( who lost on purpose if you ask Irishone) and RTR then the Henderson and Nicholls horses have been enhanced.
By:
The result of the Savils Chase was a boost to his form in The RSA - he finished ahead of the winner Delta Work after a troubled prep. I think Kemboy is the only horse to consider seriously for the Gold Cup next March today being his 1st outing of the season, and the contest finished in a heap.
I hope Santini can show a bit more sparkle in his next outing otherwise the Gold Cup could come too soon for him to be just ripe. |
By:
Native River looks the best to me on soft ground.
By:
I’ve had a nice ew bet at 20/1 after the race finished. I think he’d have won today’s race don’t you ?
By:
Not a hope
By:
personally think if someone else trained
Santini,he'd be a 16s+ shot in the market after that Sandown run. |
By:
Yep, if there's been a proven outstanding candidate. Kemboy did not enhance his reputation yesterday thus over to you Al Boum Photo reigning champion of the Gold Cup but beaten by Kemboy in Ireland since.
A great betting opportunity for the initiated and lucky punter - a good price is assured. |
By:
Lostintranslation is being aimed at the Denman Chase at Newbury in early Feb thus unlikely for Native River too (same trainer) and/or Santini; Native River and Santini could meet in the Cotswold later this month, I think - the latter needs to run, the former could yet go straight to Cheltenham, if forced.
By:
Not long to wait now. Wonder who will take him on next week....apart from DeRasher who else ?
By:
Agree with Penzance with regards to its price, although the new course is more of a galloping track than the old course which should help Santini get into more of a rhythm.
By:
delta work ,bristol de mai notable entries for the cotswold on sat
By:
He's 7/4 for the Cotswold Chase this weekend against Bristol De Mai (3/1) and the rest; Delta Work has been entered but I think he'll most likely run in The Irish Gold Cup against Kemboy on 2nd Feb. And, he must win decisively, all things being equal, to be considered a strong contender for this event unless another minor setback rears its ugly head (again).

I’m not convinced Henderson will be that bothered if Santini doesn’t win on Saturday. He obviously needs to run sufficiently well to prove his credentials in the Gold Cup but the race may not be run to suit looking at the entries. As I did point out at the start of the thread the only race where I think Santini will have the conditions should be the Gold Cup. Relentless pace over a stamina sapping course is what Santini is crying out for not a steady pace over 3 miles on Saturday.
Santini may need to make his own running if they want a true test which is obviously not ideal but who else will lead ? I’m topping up the 365 9/1 NRNB rather than having a great deal on the 7/4 on Saturday. |
By:
I’d go a step further. Wait for him to underwhelm then go in again.
By:
Yep,agree with that..
This horse absolutely tailor made for a Gild Cup imo. |
By:
Yep and practically no other race
By:
I think 9/1 is fair enough especially NRNB . I doubt he’s going to be pushed out much if finishing 3rd or 4th if they crawl. 9/1 could become 5/1 quite easily if he impresses.
By:
Forgot they are BOG as well. What can go wrong !!
By:
So frustrating seeing 9/1, I agree the track will suit but it hasn’t even proved it’s the same horse as last seasons RSA yet. Delta work has proved over Christmas it still is a decent horse and is only a point shorter!
I’d rather have Lostintranslation at 7/1 or Monalee at 20/1 at the current prices sadly. |
By:
Not sure why your frustrated Santini is 9/1 if you don’t fancy him ?
I’ve also put Lostintranslation up at 14/1 at the very beginning of the thread so hope your right if Santini blows out. Monalee won’t stay the Gold Cup trip unless he’s in a horse box. I‘d go Ryanair if he was mine. |
