Agreed.
Unfortunately unless you're totally 'devil may care' about ante-post putting it's all up in the air where she's going (initially even) this season. I had a quick shufty at Champion Hurdle prices for her straight after her Cheltenham romp last March but 14/1 didn't appeal |
By:
All up in the air as to how good she is as well.
All about the price, and your gut feeling compared to that price I guess. My gut feeling as far as the CH goes.....we are looking at another Henderson triple winner. |
By:
Champion Hdle should be just that.
All the best run in it,not take the easy option. |
By:
Is being aimed at Champion Hurdle.
By:
She has been cut to 10's from 14's today. If she goes for the champion that would probably mean melon would go for the arkle.
By:
Very good news if it pans out that way, can just see here swinging away coming down the hill now

Has there been any news regarding laurina? A couple of places are now as low as 8/1
By:
Yes, She's being aimed at Champion Hurdle.
By:
Ok thanks gutfeeling. Sorry I missed your previous comment above also. Great news that shes going that route
By:
What.....no mares hurdle!!???
Have connections grown a pair?? |
By:
So my man tells me, I'm as surprised as anyone and wouldn't be at all shocked if things don't go as planned in 1 or 2 races they'll consider the easier option.
By:
Makes sense to aim high, and drop back to Mares, if she is not looking CH class.
Gordon Elliott, has been a masterclass at doing this at the Cheltenham a festival, moving graded hors3s back into handicaps that he knows won’t win the graded Cheltenham races. Blow by a Blow, Delta Work, The Storyeller, all did the move last March and were all massive odds NRNB to do so on the Sunday before the Festival. |
By:
Yes buddeliea im surprised too. There is a good mullins stable tour on atr website where he goes through the plan for each horse. The plan atm is laurina and melon for the CH. laurina could turn out to be top class and she will have a 7lb mares allowance which is massive imo. Mullins is planning on mixing benie des dieux over hurdles and fences and see how she goes. Im tempted by the 10's still available on laurina for the CH.
By:
Well she really could be anything, and I find it really difficult to work out how good she is or could be,but at this moment 10/1 for a mares novice hurdle winner(albeit visually impressive) to win the Champion Hurdle does not tempt me at all.Especially with what I consider to be a really good double winner of the race to contend with.
Be interesting watching her this season though, and what level shes at come march. |
By:
Yes agreed there is a risk involved with laurina. However, I dont think buveur dair is as good as people think he is and he would have to improve to win next year again. He is a 2 time CH winner and you cant take that away from him but what has he really beaten in those 2 years? The new one, my tent or yours, petit mouchoir, irving. Not exactly CH class horses. The first time he has been really tested is against Melon which he just about won. He will no doubt have a much tougher race next march.

Personally I would not knock BD at all.
For me he is the perfect C hurdle horse, jumps well, travels well and finishes his race off strongly, and when you consider how good he is at 2m4,you know its going to take a strong one to beat him. No horse has as yet,and I aint sure we will get one this season either. Hes pretty much bombproof imo. The horses he has beaten in the 2 CH wins have been the best around at the time. Whether this seasons rivals prove to be better is open to question. His main rivals in the betting are all novices from last season(melon excepting, and hes proved superior to him),we don't know how much any of them will improve,we don't even know which ones will end up in the CH next march. Of course as the season goes things could change, but at this moment I see BD winning again. |
By:
By the way....MTOY has been runner up a few times now.....3 is it??
I would say that puts him in CH class. |
By:
If MTOY's settled better in his earlier days as he does now he would surely have been a Champion Hurdler....excited about Laurina news.
By:
Yep, no doubt imo that MTOY would have won at least one C hurdle had he settled in his races.
As it was I think he was one of the most talented C hurdlers I have ever seen. |

Ruby interview on the ATR site today:
Quevega and Annie Power were stars for Willie Mullins in recent years and Walsh feels Laurina, winner of the Trull House Stud Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, could be one to fill the boots of those brilliant performers. “She has summered really well and she looks a picture. Whether she will be trained as a Champion Hurdle mare or a Mares’ Hurdle mare, only time will tell,” he said. “She looked our best novice last year, but has to step up to open company now. She has got big boots to fill, but you’d be hoping that she’d be up there with the best mares we’ve had in the past. “You’re looking for the next superstar and you’re hoping it could be her.” |
By:
Fill your boots she will run in the mares race
Stable really likes to win this race, champion hurdle very open |
By:
Is she likely for the Morgiana??
By:
Can't see her going for the Morgiana due to the price- no way she'd be 9s
By:
She wont be running in the Morgiana.
By:
I think whilst Melon is a serious Champion Hurdle contender Laurina will not be campaigned for the race eg Annie Power/Faugheen thus unlikely for The Morgiana; Faugheen's been heavily backed into 2/1 with Laurina and Melon friendless. Samcro is no certainty to run either unless the heavens open big time.
By:
I'd be surprised if the Mullins camp didn't already hold Laurina in a much higher regard than Melon.
By:
I thought WPM planned LAURINA to start at Ascot this year.
Defo aimed for Champion, she will be very competitive with a 7lb mares allowance against any Champion Hurdle rivals. |
By:
Laurina Ascot bound? I believe it when I see it, but recent history has indicated otherwise.
By:
Annie had started off at Ascot before.
By:
Can't see any of the Elite hurdle runners taking part but Call Me Lord will certainly provide a decent level of opposition to her if that one runs.
By:
I just cannot understand the enthusiasm for her; she's beaten nothing of note; her winning time at Cheltenham was only 1.5 seconds quicker than that of Farclas the Triumph winner.
I think her price of 7/1 is too short; if not a Mullins'charge she'd be at least 16/1 at best. |
By:
Admittedly it's all about impression and potential, it's a very much similar story to Annie Power with the impression she gives through her races whilst beating inferior rivals in her early days. I wasn't a believer with AP but am with Laurina, just on that time comparison with the Triumph, all I'd say is that the Triumph was a proper race whilst she achieved her time in an absolute hack canter.

By:
Any news, Ryanair Hurdle over Christmas perhaps???
By:
International Hurdle (Bula ffs) at Cheltenham next w/e according to,er,Nicky Henderson on Nick Luck's programme this morning...
By:
Interesting to see how she will cope, certainly with SB in there with the run under his belt, what BD did to him sets a high enough standard for sure.
By:
Doubtful runner due to the ground even though it is forecast to rain a fair bit on Saturday, getting heavy during the afternoon - I reckon it will be very soft by 3.00pm
By:
Why take the risk though? Its good ground there now and you wouldn't want to send the horse all the way over in the hope it rains.
By:
Cheeses you off though doesn't it, it seems as though as soon as a horse develops a reputation they start to get precious with it, there then needs to be a million different things that need to be in place before you see them, what the fook do they think the ground will be like on the Tuesday of the festival ffs!!!!
By:
A lot of trainers do it though Duffy so there must be something in it. Think it’s one thing running them on it when they have them in peak condition come March, but different starting out on it for your seasonal debut.
