To be honest I hope Vautour runs in the Gold Cup with Walsh, gets stuffed by Djakadam, and Cue Card wins.

Yes!

I haven't backed him but I hope Vautour destroys them in the Gold Cup. He is the most exciting horse in the race by a long way, in my humble opinion of course...

All betting aside, I'd love to see Cue Card win.

Everyone loves a returning hero, especially when they've been knocked down on the canvas like he has in the past, but he got back up and is in the form of his life.  Espcially as he is likely to be an underdog against some of the Irish.

I'd love him to win for his owner who died a few days after the King George, and Tizzard seems like a good humble bloke.

Got nothing against Vautour, and I think he has the most natural ability of any horse in training, just not a fan of his connections or the way his stable do certain things.

agree, cue card would be an emotional gold cup.

I do like Vautour but why all the lofty opinions despite the horse has only won a race of any stature ie the JLT, with everything in its favour eg distance, going, mediocre opposition? The overran in that race, between them, could only managed one race win.

Vautour is no Desert Orchid, Sprinter Sacre, Dawn Run, Silver Buck, Burrough Hill Lad or Forgive 'N' Forget; Vautour could not even win the King George after jumping the last with a clear advantage and its main protagonist falling!

^^ A 7yr old with only 2 runs in open company and he ain't no superstar yet? You really went out on a limb there @impossible. Let's see what you have to say in about 4 years when all the greats were closing out their careers.

That is exactly my point!

If someone was to say the same in a few year's time after Vautour had accomplished more than just the current JLT then I could understand and agreed wholeheartedly. Until then, I just cannot; I think its current lofty 'status' is mainly attributed to its trainer's chosen 'campaign' mainly in Ireland.

There are a few exuberant fans who like to stick that superstar tag on Vautour already but to be fair most of us think he has the potential to be a superstar. You cannot deny that 171 performance in the JLT was exceptional and only just behind a GC winning novice last year.
By:

When: 03 Mar 16 14:55
Agree, 171 is an exceptional rating for a novice, but he also made a hash in the Racing Post Novice Chase in Ireland - he nearly fell; he also was not consistently fluent at his fences (ok a novice I understand) - MOT is also a novice yet his fencing was near brilliant all the time. If Vautour has run against the likes of Sprinter Sacre, Sire de Grugy, UDS, etc instead of sp of lng odds-on, then very possibly he deserves to be accorded the high opinions. To me there are just too many holes in his CV to be thought of as a super horse at the moment especially post Kempton, its 1st and proper test.

Let's hope Vautour goes to Cheltenham regardless of going to prove me wrong, otherwise either of the victorious Don will probably not be afforded the same accolade as Vautour.

When you consider that the 'crack' field was beaten by a novice last year then it isn't much of a stretch to see Vautour routing them this.

I'm not sure he was your average novice though. Absolutely top class horse, novice or not.

Its a fair stretch for me.....unless it was over 2 and a half miles.

Interesting choice of phrase, "If he doesn't run in the gold cup he will stay at home".

So, in an (albeit unlikely) scenario the ground comes up heavy.  Would he run, or would he stay at home and all Ante Post bettors do their dough??

He didn't think it through properly, he was obviously trying to point out that there's no comparison between the two races and with conditions to suit in a gold cup they wouldn't pass up the chance.

Obviously Swardeans scenario would alter things and I doubt that it would mean he'd miss the festival altogether.

It's fascinating that when people around the periphery of the stable and other connections voice their opinions, it's the polar opposite to what the guys closest to the stable say, for instance I'd have thought that Tony Mullins might have half an idea of what's going on yet he things he's nailed on for the Ryanair and is only first reserve in case Djakadam doesn't get there.

Yes, and he runs in the GC, or he stays at home.

Starting to think he stays at home. Those rumours don't surprise me,
Something Mullins said the other day got me thinking that as well.......we will throw the kitchen sink at him and hope we can get him there !!
Or words to that effect.

Cant see any wild plunges on the exchange now the alternatives have been quashed. Would that be a worry about his wellbeing, or did the price reflect that his backers knew where he was going anyway?

Vautour price has only changed from 6.6 3 days ago to 6.8 right now and haven't heard anything about him not being well?! I think it was more Ricci being 100% clear he is going g for gold and nothing else! To be fair he has said this all season about him unlike a few of his others though he couldn't have foreseen faugheen injury! Though he did say he is torn about where Annie power runs and it's not 100% she goes champion... I can only hope as I have Annie in the mares in umpteen bets but I have pretty much gave up on them now!

Heard Vautour not been working well at all. That being said, he wasn't working at all well before the festival last year before coming alive a couple of days before.

Yeah he hasnt really drifted but i naively thought there might be some money for him after the statements. I may have just missed stuff but rubys joke the other night was the first i heard any of them mention the ryanair.
I think annie could literally go anywhere still. Watched some of riccis comments before last year and he wanted her at aintree!

Mullins is happy to take Vautour straight to the Gold Cup after he was only caught on the line by Cue Card in the King George VI Chase at Kempton.

"I didn't see any point in running him again," he said.

"Last year we just got him ready at home and just threw the kitchen sink at him. We'll do the same again this year and hopefully he'll come right. We'll just get them fit and the ones that stay, stay and the ones that don't, don't.

from last nights betbright preview

'Rich Ricci claims Vautour only started working well 4 days prior to Cheltenham last year. And at the moment he's just not seeing that spark.
If he doesn't show us that spark we might miss Cheltenham altogether. Rich Ricci adamant he'll stay. Joe Chambers said Ruby's eyes lit up.'

Certainly grounds for concern over him being at his best but it sounds like lowering expectations rather than genuinely considering not running. Still 2 weeks to the race and youd have to be a special kind of idiot to not run your double cheltenham winner at cheltenham just because 'hes not showing a spark'.

'Why not run him in the ryanair?'.....'Because we want to win the gold cup'
'Why arent you running in the gold cup?'......'Well, hes not really showing us a 'spark''

Crazy

So, if Vautour is not 100% he'd not run in the Gold Cup, but he'd still go to Cheltenham, would that be correct to infer? If so, the Ryanair is more than a probability then I'd imagine.
