Might be folly to think SS improves on that run.
He ran like a normal horse.

Yep sorry, was getting confused. Denman lost to Madison Du Berlais by 23 lengths on his first run back

Jasey. It's pretty unlikely he doesn't improve for the run isn't it?

Over a year off the track and they were hardly going to train him too hard for his return? I take the point he might never get over his issue...  But I think he will come on significantly for that

yep, you can understand that SS connections will be relieved/satisfied and feel they have something to build on - but equally the connections of the other QM contenders will feel their chances are enhanced 'cos he's clearly beatable now.

Yep, the perfect scenario today if you were looking for both possibles to be left open going into the future...it's clear from the way that geraghty made zero effort that the instructions were to not give him anything like a hard race....I'd be leaning very much to the "he won't win camp" myself....the market agrees...5/2.!!!

7/2 the field with Sprinter Sacre in it, says a lot really.

Ive no idea how he will fare on his next run, but I do know that was not even close to the SS weve seen since his chasing career started. His jumping was not up to usual standard, and under pressure found not much.
He may well have needed the run, but he did look very fit to me.

Anyway, we now have a real betting race instead of a long odds on fav, and I for one welcome that.

Reports on Twitter that Sprinter Sacre bled.

the other thing is that it will likely be a biggish field which has n't always been the case in recent years.

Dodging Bullets continues to improve but connections of the likes of Champagne Fever and Uxizandre will feel they have lines of form at Cheltenham which mean they might have the beating of him - according to Nicholls, John Hales is keen to aim Al Ferof at the race, he won't have seen anything today to put him off.

Mind, complexion of the race could change again depending on how Sire De Grugy performs at Newbury.

SPRINTER SACRE will be examined back home at Seven Barrows on Sunday after blood was found in his nose following his comeback run at Ascot on Saturday.

A small bleed was detected when the nine-year-old was giving a post-race urine sample having finishing second in the Grade 1 Sodexo Clarence House Chase to Dodging Bullets.

A vet examination determined the bleed was unlikely to have affected Sprinter Sacre's performance but trainer Nicky Henderson will proceed with caution with his top 2m chaser, who was returning after over a year off with a heart complaint.

Henderson said: "There was blood in his nose when he was giving his sample. We don't think it would have affected his performance and a huge amount of horses would show a trace of blood after a race.

"I could have done without it as [heart vet] Celia [Marr] reported his heart to be 100 per cent and then this happens, but we can now take him home and do our job there."

As an observer and not a player, this horse looked nothing like the animal that won the Arkle and Champion Chase. Before Kempton in 2013, he was always very keen on the racecourse. He showed no such trait today and seemed quite happy to be lobbing round in 4th. The old Sprinter would have been pulling Barry's arms out. BJG took a pull turning in which led me to believe that he didn't think there was a lot left in the tank and so it proved. Time of the race was quick wnough though....be interesting to see what the clock experts make of it.

Interesting read on the best/worst bets thread Collector.

How is your Ptit Zig Arkle bet going? Or your Cue Card Gold Cup one? How about the Cue Card King George Gold Cup double? Vaniteux looks a cracking bet in the Champion Hurdle.

Me thinks you'd be captain of the topless knitting team LaughLaugh

I have to say that I think if it was any other horse people would be screaming about BG's ride.  I understand that they wanted to give him an easy introduction which is understandable, but I agree with Wellchief and think if they'd really wanted they could have won today.  Anyway I fully expect normal service to be resumed in the QMCC and have taken 11/4 NRNB.  Can't believe how big the price is.

Having read in this thread that SS had bled during the race while giving a routine p!$$ sample i am inclined to think the SS of old has resided to the history books i am afraid. I so wanted him to be back to his best today, well my heart did, my pocket was thinking other things but thats another storyBlush!

Ok vet says that he only bled as much as a lot of horses would do during a race and wasn't much at all and quite normal etc etc, but, he wasnt given a hard time at all.

I fully expect this seasons QMCC to be between Champagne fever, Dodging Bullets and Al Ferof. But lets see what SDG does next weekend, but again, am not expecting fireworks as he is another back from a bad injury

I realise by saying above i am in the minority. Probably the only person in the country saying it Blush

Just trying to be as realistic as possible however Plain

For my eyes, DB got away from SS today from 2 out to the last, BG wasn't hard on SS and any other race and he would have been called into the stewards room for the non triers rule but its that bled thing. Happy with my 7/2 SS 12/1 DB though at mo Wink

12/1 Looks a cracking bet now STS.Wish i had some of that.I can let this race pass with no bet but a short price on the day about SS could tempt me to lay him
DB looked strong today, got to give him credit he is a much improved horse

Just to put another perspective on this and hypothetically speaking.  If Dodging Bullets who is definitely improving had not been in this race and the result was 1st Sprinter Sacre 5 lengths in front of Twinlight (G1 winner last time) and a further 7 lengths back to Somersby (btn 2 Lengths behind DB in G1 last time).  Would there have been any gloom as there appears to be now.

Having digested the race, a race fit at the top of his game Dodging Bullets has beaten a tenderly ridden Sprinter. They had to get a run into him and had no intention of giving him a hard race no matter what the outcome.  Bring on the QMCC.
By:

When: 17 Jan 15 17:59
My view exactly shocks. A hard driven, ridden all the way to the line Tingle Creek winner beats a tentatively ridden Sprinter by 3 lengths in his come back run after 14 months off.

Yet some big up Dodging Bullets and write off Sprinter? So anyone who has got to within 2 lengths of DB has a chance in the QM, but anyone beaten 3 lengths or more might as well not turn up?

One thing that does put me off is DB does not like Cheltenham. The couple times hes ran there hes looked likely winner at top of hill but for some reason as soon as he hits the climb theres nothing there. Though he is improving.

That has to be a worry for anyone backing him now at the shorter price.

The thing is though Collector, I don't come on here insulting people for putting up an opinion, and then blowing smoke up my own ass when I have a winner.

I freely admitted I put them on and have written them off, but you can't come on here with a holyer than thou attitude like your sh!t don't stink.

If you read that thread you'd see the last three in the list were all less than a fiver each.  The 6 horses you mention account for around 10% of my entire book.

The ones I've mentioned in yours account are for £360, plus you've got Allez Colombieres (£150), Shaneshill for the Albert Bartlett (£50) and Vautour Arkle (£180), Tell Us More for the Albert Bartlett (£50).  So you've potentially got £790 of non runner money already there, so unless you've got £8k on for Cheltenham, you've got a bigger chunk of money down the drain than me.

Then you mention you've got Black Hercules at 10/1 - same price as now, Shaneshill at 10/1 - same price as now, and Champagne Fever at 10/1 - only 2 points shorter now.  But actually because you've got Douvan at 6's, all is forgiven.

So you have written off 790 quid already yes?the only ones def written off are Allez Supreme Tell AB and Shanes AB....as you may also have read...a month ago or do I said on that thread I can't be bothered putting on any more ante post bets cos who listens who cares (and quite rightly so) and who believes..listen well chief best of luck with your selections its neither here nor there to me who does well or not. Just stated my point over S Sacre and I believe been proved right at this point in time.this horse is not what he was and the fact that D Bullets has beaten it-who was well behind C Fever in Arkle- well who knows what could happen.....
