Nah I know and have heard about several failed wind operations that aren't public knowledge. I don't think he will come back to where he once was but there was nothing left for him to prove so why not just retire him to stud?
I can't see him being a big success at stud. |

Taken a slice of 46 UDS on here...just never know!!
By:
a huge amount of what ,if, but, maybees regarding this race 1st if the top 2 don't turn up then we have the real possibility of the" novices " having a pop but if champagne fever shows he don't stay mullins could well have the champ chase in their sights for him ! and ruby wouldn't argue having 3 good rides in the Jewson arkle and cc. more twists than an Agatha Christie plot
By:
The 'will he/won't be a success at stud" would be opening a totally different can of worms here haha! I'm just assuming that's what will happen when he is eventually retired.
By:
Paterson who are taking the pi$$ right???
He is a chaser???? Not many would have a lot of success at stud. A good time maybe but not successful. |
By:
yeah patersons having a laugh ,"if" he was an entire it may explain why he jumps so well ,wouldn't want the old tackle hitting a fence !

Continues to drift on BF. Vibes not at all good and considering Hendo horses which work well at home are heavily backed I am sure that if SS was going ok the current price would be snapped up quickly. A real shame as he is superstar - I watched his CC win again tonight and he was awesome

By:
Retire to stud. I actually laughed aloud there.

will miss the tingle creek.

Have had a bit of 14/1 Champagne Fever for the QM. With doubts about those at the head of the market it would be no surprise to have a race where Balder Succes is the horse to beat. I have some doubts about Champagne Fever over staying distances given he races with such enthusiasm and if he gets beaten in the King George then the Champion Chase may start to look very attractive.
By:
Totally agree, point and shoot over 2 miles, he's a strong traveller that IMO races better when he's out front, can't see how 3 miles with his keenness would suit, must drop him back to the minimum and let him get on with it.
By:
Depends how he runs (and stays) in the King George I guess. If he wins he'll surely run in the Gold Cup. Those who suggested Vautour running in the QMCC might end up being right.

Lol

you never know, Santa could leave him a dildo ...

Positive update from Nicky Henderson today after a gallop with Bobsworth although not much movement in his price for the Champion chase. Nicky confident he is fine so maybe worth taking a chance on him at his current price
By:
He doesn't even have to come back at his best. This division is weak as piss - a stone worse and he still hoses up
By:
Just out of curiosity, has anyone taken the 4's on Sprinter for the QMCC? I haven't myself, but am getting more tempted.
Having just watched the dial a bet, where Uxizandre and Ballycasey both never going a yard, and a Mullins second string winning, the 4/1 on Sprinter is the gift of the century! With the history of that yard, if he was miles off, his price would be big on here, but it's holding well at 7/2. |
By:
20 pounds below his best he wins on figures! if sdg dont make it.
By:
Easiest question I've ever had to answer. No.
By:
I'm on at 4/1. The way I see it is the price is based on his wellbeing not on potential competition. Over the last few days horses who could have potentially ran in the Champion Chase have all been beaten but his price has remained pretty much the same. Henderson isn't the type of trainer to put the horse through all this and not be near certain he could come back to his best. If all goes well in his schooling session at Newbury his price will come down and if he then wins at Ascot on the 17th your talking about 6/4. I'm more than willing to take a chance and hope to be sitting with a 4/1 bet watching an even money shot.
By:
Yep,
The other horses are largely not relevant, as its all about Sprinters wellbeing. Taking his current price is all about him being fit and turning up in March, cos if he is and does the others cannot beat him...can they?? Last I looked he was 6/4 nrnb. maybe that's the way to go?? not for me I aint got the money to tie up at that sort of price, but may appeal to some. He runs hes well odds on, he don't ya moneys back in ya account. One thing for sure,if he performs ok tmrw and trainers comments are upbeat, prices will change. |
By:
Just checked....sincere apologies, hes 7/4 nrnb.
By:
Yeah Budd, I was looking at the NRNB price, but I think I'd rather take the 4's.
As you say, a good school and positive vibes at Newbury and his price contracts, so it could be a good trade opportunity and lay off at a shorter price for some insurance? |
By:
Couldn't resist took 4/1 with PP for £20.
By:
Simonsig out until least the fez
By:
I just think that if he was back to his best those close to the yard in the know i.e stable staff etc would have lumped on and the price would be nowhere as big as it is ,just my opinion tho 1
By:
I took the other view Folyes, and thought if he was not ready, his price would be a lot bigger than what the bookies are offering.
I think his price is around 7/2 on here because the bookies are 4/1 - very rarely do you get a shorter one on here than the bookies. Re Simonsig, yeah I saw that - Hendo wasn't very positive at all about him. Backed him to win any race as well, and my second prediction in the prediction thread looks like it's down already! |
By:
Anybody know how his schooling session went?
By:
jumped 5, inc an open ditch to which ss took off miles before the take off board but was ok but heart in mouth at time, tanks for that was other one, once the jumping was over, tanks for that was steadily quickened up to his full speed and ss breezed past
By:
Thanks for the update. Great to hear all went well. My 4/1 is looking like s decent "punt". Always good to see the good 1's race and that's what cheltenham is all about. Would love to see Sire de Grugy back to his best aswell. Would make for a better race to have them both there at there best if not just to stop all the "what if" stories! Bring on Ascot!!
By:
Glad I took the 4's as well.
Thanks to those in this thread who gave me the nudge that I needed! A long long way to go, but this is a big step forward. |
By:
I've no bet but the racecourse gallop was encouraging ahead of his outing at Ascot and with the Queen Mother in mind, looked as exuberant as when at his best but we won't really know until the screw is turned on race day.
Ground was testing enough too so a really positive experience for him today. |
By:
I am not reading too much into this, surely he has jumped a few at home and they know how he is.
By:
Just watched his schooling session and it put a big smile on my face. I'm no professional but it looks like he's back. Jumped well, quickened well and finished full of beans. If he wins at Ascot he's odds on 4 Champion!
By:
yeh, good to see him. Looked ok to me, but his 1st race back will tell us what we need to know.
By:
and if he loses he's 33s

By:
Looked good apart the belly flop at the first, still would not back him until the actual raceday.
By:
If I'd answered your question when you originally posted it back in April, Howdi, I would have answered no fairly emphatically, I now think there's every chance he'll get back to his best - or at least close enough to it to thrill his fans.
By:
thought the belly flop was at the second, IS? Took off too far away, glad he did n't do any damage...
By:
maybe it was, i must had missed the first jump. The sun was in my eyes
