I agree that the nrfb is quite limited especially if ones account has been closed but Ballycasey was generally available at 25/1 for the RSA at that time.

Ballycasey has shortened up and now disputes favouritism with Champagne Fever. Odds for winning any race at the Festival with Billys have shortened from 12/1 to 9/1.

I've almost got the lot in a combination bet - Moyle Park, Champagne Fever, Faugheen, Ballycasey & Briar Hill, think the hardest part would be to get all 5 in the right races though!

Plenty of war wounds to compare Roger!
Ok, also with Billies Moyle Park 16/1 Supreme Champagne Fever 4/1 Arkle Faugheen 14/1 Neptune Ballycasey 14/1 RSA Briar Hill 12/1 Albert Bartlett Could be slightly too concentrated on the Mullins stable but one or two combos are good entertainment (at least for a while). Now we just need to find someone out there with a Mullins Goliath! |

Morning Assembly Will do for me at this stage. Ground may be a concern as no good ground form, however no bad form on it either. Couldn't have done anymore at this stage of his career.

Has anyone heard any news concerning O'Faolains Boy, I read he's schooled well and is a lot stronger to ride, just waiting to see him run somewhere.

From the RP stable tour on 5th November: "He picked up a minor injury to a joint over the summer but he's back in full work now and probably about 6 weeks off a run."

Think we saw a strong candidate at the weekend in Bright New Dawn.
Jumps well and has fair form over hurdles behind C Fever.Apparently stepping up to 3m for his next race. Personally think hes a better horse than Don Cossack and could end up as the owners No1 RSA horse imo. |

Well, sadly African Gold fell today but before then he made a couple of slight erros at the two fences prior. He is not going to win the RSA this season. Matt Chapman suggest it might be an idea to revert to hurdles and keep his novice status for next season given he is still just a 5yo. That sounds like a good idea to me.

Funnily enough I was thinking given NT-D's pencahant for novices in handicaps, he'd be a dark horse for the 3m Handicap Chase on Festival Tuesday.

No way is he ready for a National imo. Too big and raw still. Reckon a drop to 20f wouldn't go amiss whilst he is still 5/6yo. All his hurdles wins were over 20 and 21f.

I agree Sint, but NTD does run novices in big handicaps if they are well weighted.

Morning Assembly & Ballycasey be the two best of Irish crop, Don Cossack doesn't strike me as one who will be suited by 3m on good ground round Cheltenham.
Shutthefrontdoor looks most interesting of the English followed by Just a Par. I wouldn't rule out African Gold just yet, but far from ideal 2 runs thus far. |

Inish Island should end up here if he gets a couple of chase runs under his belt. He's one of a few big odds pokes in this.

African Gold, one of the brightest novice chasing prospects for the current campaign, will switch back to hurdles after falling at Uttoxeter on Tuesday. The five-year-old won four times in succession as a novice over hurdles last season before finding only At Fishers Cross too strong in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival. Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge disappointed when finishing a well beaten fourth on his chasing debut at Cheltenham last month and was long odds-on to get his season back on track at Uttoxeter. The youngster looked likely to prevail until a bad mistake three fences from home sent him crashing out of the race and owner Dai Walters, who snapped him up prior to the start of the new season, feels it sensible to go back over the smaller obstacles. Walters said: "He seems all right this morning, but obviously the vet will be in later to check him out fully. "We don't want to make too many plans until he's given a clean bill of health, but provided he's all right I think we'll go back over hurdles with him. "He's still a young horse and maybe we should have given him a couple of easier races over fences first. We were quite ambitious sending him to Cheltenham first time. "These things happen, we'll move on and he'll go back over hurdles now." |

Just A Par is supposedly their RSA horse - stranger things have happened though. |

Sam Winner's trainer Paul Nicholls said: "This was the ideal track for him. He wasn't right last year, but he's back now and he's eliminated the silly mistakes.
"He'll have an entry for the RSA, but he might be a right one for the four-miler at the Festival as he's a dour stayer." |

The fact he refers to Sam Winner as being a ''right one'' for the four miler would kind of suggest he fancies him for that race. But as Roger says, stranger things have happened. I personally thought Le Bec was the one to take from the race. He was conceding 8lb and whilst i'm not a big fan of the trainer this horses appears tough and consistent and is improving with each race. 20/1 looks far to big for me given he has completed most of his prep already and will have one more run before then and March.
I am on Just A Par too and whilst he was impressive last time at Newbury I feel a little uncomfortable with the horse he beat, Third Intention, being used as a guide to the ratings. Initially I thought it was OK but he is a bit of a tripless horse to me and gets beaten more often than not. |

What's the plan for Black Thunder? Nichols also, and has taken really well to fences winning 3 and the last 2 easily against Shotgun Paddy who beat Just A Par although I don't think that should be taken too literally.

Anyone know If Bright New Dawn is likely to be aimed at RSA? Know they said Topaz chase is next on the agenda so would make sense

Connections of Black Thunder have the Cheltenham Festival in mind after the six-year-old took his 100 per cent record over fences to three with victory at Lingfield on Saturday.
The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding outpointed Shotgun Paddy in the RSA Novices' Trial Chase to complete a hat-trick after wins at Fontwell and Haydock. Black Thunder is now likely to take a break before being prepared for Cheltenham, where the RSA Chase would be the prime option. "We were absolutely delighted. It was a three-runner race, but even so it was nice to win. His jumping made the difference," said co-owner Barry Fulton. "Paul usually rests a few of his horses in January so I think he'll probably have a break, he's had three runs. "Then maybe we'll try to find a race for him before going for something at the Festival if the ground's not too firm. "Obviously the RSA Chase is quite an appealing option." |
