No quick decision will be made on whether impressive Betair Hurdle winner My Tent Or Yours will be supplemented to the Champion Hurdle line-up next month.

But the early indications point to Nicky Henderson's gelding sticking to the Supreme Novices' Hurdle for which he is now 7-4 favourite with Ladbrokes.

The same firm also make My Tent Or Yours 8-1 for the Champion Hurdle, for which a £18,500 fee would have to be paid.

Some might encourage owner JP McManus to throw the exciting talent in against the best and fill the berth left by last week's fatal fall of Darlan, but that tragedy is also likely to have an equal pull on McManus to tread carefully with a horse who has only raced over hurdles four times.

How highly jockey AP McCoy rates My Tent Or Yours shone through as he spoke of a 'model racehorse' with 'exceptional gears' but McCoy also emphasised the emotional relationship McManus enjoys with his horses.

They could currently be too raw to take a chance with My Tent Or Yours.

The Supreme would mean a clash with McManus-owned Jezki and possibly Jeremy Scott-trained Melodic Rendezvous.

He added to his reputation by inflicting an emphatic first defeat on the well-touted Puffin Billy at Exeter yesterday under Nick Scholfield.

Henderson, who claimed he has never run a novice in the Champion Hurdle, said: 'JP's racing manager Frank Berry will be talking to him and AP and I will be involved. But everybody is forgetting JP has a Champion Hurdle horse anyway in (2010 champion hudler) Binocular.'

Make A Stand had plenty of hurdles experience. I seem to remember that Alderbrook had also had a run in a novice hurdle earlier on in his career.

The cost of the supplement is a non issue for JP. He's in it for the craic.

Hendo is a traditionalist and rarely overfaces his charges unnecessarily. I'll be astonished if MTOY doesn't run in the Supreme.

Nicky Henderson has dropped a hint that My Tent Or Yours will stick to the novices' route rather than moving up in grade to tackle the cream of the British and Irish hurdlers in the Stan James Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next month.

After his impressive success in the Betfair Hurdle at the weekend, bookmakers introduced My Tent Or Yours into the Champion Hurdle betting with connections of the JP McManus-owned winner admitting that the contest would have to come into consideration.

Although making clear that no decision had yet been taken, Henderson appeared to be favouring the Supreme Novices' Hurdle when telling the Daily Mail: "JP's racing manager Frank Berry will be talking to him and AP and I will be involved. But everybody is forgetting JP has a Champion Hurdle horse anyway in (2010 champion hurdler) Binocular."

And everyone is forgetting he has a supreme horse already in jezki, I don't think it's much of a hint, just stating facts.

Didn't he run Binocular and Captain Cee Bee which were both strongly fancied in the race finishing 1/2. There would be no mention of running in a champion hurdle If Darlan was still with us they'd of laughed at the suggestion. He's a novice he should run against other novices.

maybe so, but mtoy isn't the finished article and if running in the champion I could see his jumping being a problem, the likes of hurricane fly ping there hurdles and i think MTOY needs that bit more experience before taking on the seniors. They shouldn't rush him imo.
By:

When: 11 Feb 13 16:35
How many people saying don't rush him already have a tasty price for the Supreme?

Yes, as Nicky has reminded everyone JP has Binocular in the Champion but let's get real on recent evidence he isn't a very likely winner whereas Jezki would go to post as favourite for the Supreme.
By:

When: 11 Feb 13 16:39
Maybe many people who think he should go for the Supreme have a ticket on him for that race, but it does seem the logical choice. You could use the Jezki argument, but to me Jezki has no better chance in the novice race that Binocular has in the CH.
By:

When: 11 Feb 13 17:04
Two reasons I think he should go for Supreme

1. I have him at 20s for that
2. He'd be a real threat to Zarkandar in CH

Pocket talking? Guilty as charged your honour.

A horse hasnt won as easily since Make A stand did it in 1997. He was completely untouched and im unsure there is anything in the CH that would have won the way he did saddled with 11 2. We must remember that he beat 2 very well handicapped horses at Newbury and I do genuinely thnk he must take his chance in the Champion.

Hurricane Fly has missed as many festivals as he has turned up at, and if he was to miss the Fez then i think its entirley probable MTOY would start favourite. Please remeber he will be a better horse on better ground. If he was mine and I had JP's money i wouldnt think twice. It would be the Champion all the way.

The question is whether you think the horse is good enough and how much better you perceive the opposition to be in the champion??

for me with normal progression he has to have an outstanding chance in the champion hurdle with the opposition not progressing anymore now, than they have done throughout there careers to date...

I had him at 163+ (written on the racing forum 2 days ago) after his victory with some very useful horses surrounding him, the key to the form for me is petit robin whom has proved to be a very good yardstick, other progressive animals also back the form up like (anybody help) says above

apart from hurricane fly who is a proven 170 horse only rock on ruby has shown himself capable of running to such a figure...

the others are just mid 160 horses at best

I know a few have vouchers on here but you can lay off if you wish

the fact remains he has run a good figure, to me has that speed needed to make his mark in the champion with normal progression which seems very likely considering he won saturdays race on the snaffle

he could win the supreme by 5 lengths on the snaffle and be injured next year and we will always say I wish they had ran him

the champion hurdle needs the horse and if your not involved financially yet like me it will add to what is a stagnant champion hurdle market and give the race the boost it needs

Graeme83 I agree entirely with your post at 16:39.

I hope that anyone who has convinced themselves Binocular can't win the Champion will not be backing Hurricane Fly. Even if you don't know these horses that well, you should be able to read the form book and see that Binocular comes on hugely for his seasonal reappearance, whereas Hurricane Fly has beaten the same old horses just as easily as before this season. There is little to choose between them on last year's running, and let's not forget Binocular was good enough to beat Rock On Ruby on his second run of the campaign (which has been his best more often than not).

Statistics (and the influx of younger talent) suggests Binocular is an unlikely winner of the race, but to have him at 22s and the Fly at 2-1 is utter lunacy.

Back to the main crux, Jezki would definitely keep MTOY from going off odds-on in the Supreme, but there are far better chances than Jezki at roughing up the favourite in my opinion.

Looking at it from JP perspective, ie. a gambler who loves nothing more than a winner or 3 at the festival, surely he will be very tempted to have the FAV (Jezki assuming no MTOYT)in the Supreme, & a real live chance in the CH (MTOYT) which would surely be in a single fig. price if he goes to post.
The other option is Fav & 2nd Fav in the Supreme where obv only one can win.  I am on MTOYT @ 14's for the Supreme, but have also backed @ 20/1 for the CH as I can see the above happening

for the sake of accuracy it is MTOY not MTOYT, the second tent is implied rather than explicitly referenced.

Do we know whether Your Tepee or Mine (YTOM as opposed to MTOY) is any good?

Nicky Henderson has been quick to rule out suggestions that Betfair Hurdle winner My Tent or Yours could become a Champion Hurdle contestant.
The six-year-old cruised to a devastating victory at the weekend to bring some cheer to trainer and owner John McManus, who had so sadly lost Darlan earlier in the week.
He may go for the Champion Hurdle one day, but I can't imagine it will be this year.Nicky Henderson
But Henderson's retort when asked whether the winner could be supplemented for the big Cheltenham race snapped: "I wouldn't think so - that's the first time I've heard that one."
And he added: "I was delighted at the end of what has been an awful week that the horse brought some cheer to us all. He looks a very fine prospect doesn't he.
"Darlan looked as though he was going all the way to the top, so to find who could be going the same way is great and has given us all a boost at the end of a shocking week.
"He may go for the Champion Hurdle one day, but I can't imagine it will be this year."
Jockey AP McCoy added: "My Tent or Yours feels like a very good horse indeed and I have to agree that he's a Champion Hurdle type - one day!"

"My Tent or Yours was a surprise supplementary entry for the Champion Hurdle at the five day stage. Trainer Nicky Henderson said: Binocular worked poorly at the weekend and we've decided against running him. JP loves a runner in the Champion and, with him owning the favourite for the Supreme, we've decided to have a crack at the big one. In fairness,he'll be a better horse in a year's time, but the form of his Betfair Hurdle triumph entitles him to be thereabouts".

May not happen, but NH and JP have plenty of previous in this area (the resurrection of Binocular being most notable) and I wouldnt be tempted to lay him at long prices when the market re-opens.

I think that's a reasonable post. Hope it doesn't happen but only be reassured when he isn't supplemented.
