I shall nail my colour to the mast: Don Cossack will win this year's CGC cleanly ie no photo or stewards enquiry.

I agree, it's another subject on which the views are very entrenched and nobodies mind will be changed until the big day.
Even then, we may not have harmony. DC's fans are such a loyal bunch that if they came home from work to find DC rogering their Missus, it would only be because Cooper put him in the wrong place! I just hope that all of the runners get a fair crack at it and the best horse wins, with no excuses for any beaten runners. How often does that happen though....? |

Cyclops,
Reading the posts I don't think Miltons is a she, dont mean to be sexist, but those posts from MS don't scream Female to me,just cannot picture a she doing that.....sorry if I offend any females on here. Anyway, back to the thread. Im not one of the huge fans of DC,but I can see why they can get a tad defensive for him,as hes top rated(or very close)over the 3m division and oozes class on his day. Yes hes had days when its not gone right, but not many chasers don't,in fact I cant think of any. Hes one of a few very select and imo high class horses that could win the Gold Cup,and deserves no more criticism than any of the others,in my view. As DO says in his last sentence there, a fair race and no excuses would be great, and we should all wish for that if we are fans of this sport. |

Firstly I will apologise for the comments about drug use if they offended anyone, I honestly thought there were so OTT that none would take them seriously and to heart? I don't know any of you personally so how could I know what vices you may or may not have? There were throwaway comments due to some other truly ridiculous comments for example the one about DC holds Cue Card on the KG form???? Imo that statement was made in seriousness and is ridiculous. Anyway we all have differing opinions and we are entitled to view them, there are a lot people on here with differing views to my own who I have a great deal of respect for.
I have to mention the milton sophie stalker as I am the accused the only reason for the laugh is because it's a truly ridiculous accusation. For the record I have no personal grudge against ms and never have, we have differing views and I did find his tone towards me slightly condescending at times but this is a public forum where people have the right to their opinion whether you agree with them or not. MS took it very personally when I corrected on a few occasions for example he suggested running running a 4yo filly in the new mares hurdle due to the allowance which was a fair point, then one he remarked he thought had found such an example in Lou Vert, I pointed out in good humour and with no maliciousness that Lou Vert in fact was a gelding, no problem. He on another thread was giving examples of Ruby Walsh falling in big races and he used Boston Bobs fall in the Sun Alliance, to which I corrected him and told him it was in fact Paul Townend. The breaking point come when we were talking about Townshend running in a Chetenham handicap, long story short as it's all there for anyone to read if they care I wrongly, YES I can admit my mistakes no problem at all and will gladly be corrected when I'm wrong, suggested you needed to run 3 times over hurdles to qualify for a handicap to which maelduin corrected using Aux Ptit Soins as an example and if I took ms pov maelduin was now stalking me He proceeded to call me several things and accuse me of stalking him, as with being corrected I have no problem being insulted doesn't bother me as you give it, you have to take it and I'm big enough and ugly enough to look after myself. Ms to proceed to apologise fair play to him and I said I'm sorry for him feeling I'd victimised him as I haven't and I'm not doing that with anyone. I corrected cyclops about B Cooper riding DC about on good ground and he took it in the spirit in which it was meant, I told STS who said Florida Pearl had never won outside of Ireland he was wrong, no hissy fits! I hope ms starts posting again and have absolutely nothing against him but if he does and he gets his facts wrong I'll correct him or anyone else and I expect the same back, don't be so sensitive or paranoid this is a forum.Sorry for any offence caused to anyone but I'm no stalker, maybe an opinionated gob**** but I've been called worse and please I won't be offended if and when you think of something else to add to the list apart from stalker![]() |

Don having a great time jumping 9-12 fences and took all, except one, in perfect stride: https://twitter.com/AtTheRaces/status/704002494590922752 - better watch it with volume off

DC and NMH at Leopardstown today.
Could we have seen the two winners at Cheltenham already? |
|
By:
bryan cooper chats to russel bout half way around whats the settings he's saying how come he never jumps like that with me lol! The don look fluent Brussel hardly moves a muscle!
|
|
By:
Indeed, DC does look fluent. I also believe just sitting quietly and not animated is all that's required with DC.

Who'd have thought throwing the reins all over the place may unsettle the horse?
![]() |
|
By:
If DR is on board, no excuses from you club members if he doesn't win!
|
|
By:
and you wanted to make sure of that?
there's always excuses @chief, thats why its called a fan club, we don't abandon the horse for falling in the KG when about to make the challenge even though he didn't really travelled that day or his next race, with the same zest as in his races last season. But he looked great in that piece yesterday! The close-up pictures we got of him hopefully they're as good in the GC and Cooper lets him bound around in front so he could see the fences from long way out and judge them more accurately. At the same time and to segue right back to your point, going out in front he won't get sandwiched and there shall be no excuses of bad luck in running ![]() |

By:
I'd just like to see DC reproducing its Punchestown form post last year Festival, win or lose; I also would like to see DC jumping the last fence no more than 2l, all things being equal, behind the leader at Cheltenham, win or lose.
DC looked stronger than NMH at Leopardstown yesterday. |
|
By:
My take would be that Gigginstown agree that Copper isn't the best person to ride Don Cossack and have lined up Russell. This would chime with PP offering odds-on that Cooper partners Don Poli.
We won't ever hear that this was done; they wouldn't humiliate Cooper, but I suspect that's the reality. I can't think of any other explanation for yesterday's riding arrangements. |
|
By:
A little off-topic here but I watched the replay a coupled of times and wasn't in love with NMH jumping - seemed to be a little deliberate at a few...
|
|
By:
To be fair NMH is a novice jumping alongside one of the favourites for the Gold Cup. Unlike Vautour he didn't make any real mistakes as such. He just wasn't as good at a few which is to be expected. Did nobody notice the nod on landing by DC at the fence on the far side? That's been his undoing before and he was only going half pace there. Not something I'd be dismissing out of hand.
|
|
By:
Eeternaloptimist
I agree with you there. I do not think a novice no matter how good can match pace with DC when DC was jumping like he did yesterday I think; I think NMH's jumping for a novice is just as good as that of Douvan or Ar Mad. The $64k question is.....have we seen two Cheltenham winners at Leopardstown yesterday? |

It just cements what some of us here have been saying about the pilot recently. It was not another excuse as to why DC performed less well at Cheltenham on the two occasions Bryan Cooper was pilot. Also, it is nothing Mr Cooper, your riding style just does not suit DC, that is all.
|
|
By:
Cooper won't be riding any other horse than the favourite.. winning a GC so young he won't give that opportunity away by riding the plodder(sorry Poli fans)

may not have the choice

As I prime the hip flask and prepare to journey to the Cotswolds, good luck to all Gold Cup runners.
A brilliant race is what we all want and if Don Cossack can fulfil the dream, absolutely wonderful. Enjoy the week, forumites! |
|
By:
With Vautour doing a last minute detour to the Ryanair DC has been given a golden opportunity to put things right at the Festival. The ground will be to his liking,...the only question now is will the pilot?
|
|
By:
I don't think Vautour was his main concern. He had Djak to worry about because that one has the form in the book and Cue Card operation lets him breathe over extended trips so he's also a bigger worry for us fans than a horse who is a galloper but doesn't quite has the stamina for 3 miles as shown in the KG.

oh yeah! redemption time hopefully for the young lad

Ya, because of the ground - hopefully redemption too.

Just realised No More Heroes did not make it - terrible news for everyone concerned. What a horrible way to end for such a promising and lovely horse.
Recompense tomorrow for connections I hope. |
