just off to study tomorrow's Midlands National field - should be able to spot next year's Gold Cup winner.

I like Silviniaco Conti myself and would like to see him develop into a GC horse. Not consistent though and Nicholls seems to think he prefers flatter tracks.
By:
Bob's Worth vs the three Gigginstown horses, and possibly a stepping up Al Ferof
could be interesting imo |
By:
Who are the three Gigginstown? Sir Des Champs, First Lieutenant and Weapons Amnesty? Fenton's horse can't be forgotten about and Bog Warrior might want further tha 2m 4f in time.
By:
Hunt Ball how far?
By:
The beast Pandorama would beat them all on soft ground.
By:
Pandorama not a bad shout but could'nt back the chance of it being soft ground with any confidence.
To me the winner has already won twice at the Festival , is unbeaten and should have no problem with the step up in trip and that's Sir des Champs |
By:
Cannot believe Sid James were offering 50/1 on Last Instalment an hour ago - had to take some of that each way.
Would have gone really really close in this years RSA, and 50's was a ridiculous price imo having comfortably seen off First Lieutenent this year. |
By:
hidden cyclone could be interesting too
was v close to sir des champs last time out, then was found to be wrong afterwards |
By:
ffs lads take a break
By:
Said on another thread, Last Instalment's slaughter of First Lieutenant on good ground looks pretty specil now, given it was a faster time than Synchronised in the Lexus on the same card. Sir Deschamps is also clearly very good but LI is top of my list for next year.

Will the O'Leary horses take each other on?
By:
dunno but not looking forward to seeing his smug mug in the winner's enclosure after the Gold Cup.
Would like to see Peter Casey there with Flemenstar! |
By:
The Irish horses usually get injured before the Gold Cup for some reason. Coincidence maybe. Even Quel Esprit made it to the day of the horse and just like Weapons Amnesty, Pandorama, Quito De La Roque and a few outside hopes, he was ruled out with something amiss. If the three Gigginstown novices this year as well as Hidden Cyclone and Flemenstar make to the Festival next year, it'll be an achievement.

What was the cause of QE missing the GC today?i'm sure connections are left wondering what may have been giving the result
By:
I wonder if medermit could be a shout? Trainer was torn between the two races this year, wouldn't surprise me to see him make a bid next time
By:
Invictus, for me. I wonder if King is now kicking himself for not runnung Medermit in the Gold Cup
By:
It may be some time before you see Invictus again....tendon injury, I believe.
By:
yes medermit might have enjoyed the Gold Cup - reckon he will go for it next year
intention will be signalled if they go Betfair Bowl at Aintree next |

Riverside Theatre? I have no strong opinion yet SDS has yet to even prove he stays so he looks ridic short atm. I would personally love to see Hunt Ball continue his progression into being a GC contender. What a story that would be

Apparently Corals went 14/1 Bobs Worth straight after the RSA which struck me as pretty fair for anyone able to get on. The current price is not appealing as I don't see him as the type to set the world on fire before next years festival. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he drifted a few points after a disappointing run 1st or 2nd time out next autumn. I hope so anyway

a lot will depend how they campaign him - if they stick to left handed tracks and go Hennessey, Betfair Chase, Lexus, Aon, Gold Cup he will be fine
By:
Had a little go on medermit for next years gold cup at 66s on hills. Going to have a word with myself for getting involved about 363 days before the actual event.
By:
Imperial Commander 66-1 :)
By:
I'd love to see that but he's an old man now who's effectively been out for 2 seasons. If he makes the start you'll have a good trading position though (much like Kauto this year)!
By:
Ask the woman who's been riding him of he feels like an old man haha... It's a ridiculous price when he has only missed one gc imo. If he comes back fit and runs he will be best horse in race :) worth a cheeky couple of quid I think :)
By:
IC has only missed ONE season, harder to imagine Weapons Amnesty coming back after missing 2... Too old for my tastes though, I like them young
Last Instalment, Sir Deschamps, The Giant Bolster... |
By:
Bob's Worth storming e/w bet for me.
By:
Thieves - yes, technically he only missed one full season, but the season before was interrupted by injury and he then pulled up in the Gold Cup with a bleed (iirc). You're right about Weapons Amnesty, which is a shame, but if he does come back he'll only be 10 and lightly raced. Imperial would be 12 and not so lightly raced. I like them young and progressive too - Last Instalment, Sir des Champs, Flemenstar. Giant Bolster had his chance this year for me.
By:
TGB will still only be 8 and has only had 11 chases, if he goes there with 14 behind him would still be in the frame for a win.
IC is actually not that heavily raced at all, 13 chase starts and 19 starts in all Less than Long Run! But he wouldn't be for me at 12, not in a Gold Cup. Flemanstar - he is very good but I'm not remotely convinced he will stay. |
By:
TGB - Perhaps, although it's on the upper end for Gold Cup winners. I just wonder if this was his career peak as the first Gold Cup so often is. I also expect next year's race to be stronger so he would have to improve.
Flemenstar - that does remain to be seen though he clearly gets 2 1/2 m very well. |
By:
(sorry, I should add that there may well be some juice in TGB's price even though I don't fancy him to win)
By:
How can anyone say IC is not lightly raced? He has had 3 races a season if that and been interrupted through injury, he is incredibly lightly raced imo! Im not saying he will win or even run I'm just saying i believe him to be overpriced considering he has won the best GC for years

I agree he won the best Gold Cup, I rate his the best Gold Cup winning performance of my lifetime but the Betfair Chase might be his limit now...
By:
He was superb in that Gold Cup but it will have been 3 years ago. He'd be on his 16th or 17th chase start in the 2013 GC which is far from lightly raced for a GC winner (typically 7-10). However, as I said above, if he makes the start he'll be much shorter than he is today.
