Good point Evra. Agree its there to be used as a guide and is not gospel. Just finding it really hard to  gauge how good he is or might be, we know he's serious animal but exactly how good is the questionConfused

Townend

When: 09 Mar 11 00:26
Hopefully Townend rides, but if he's jocked off then Ruby isnt a bad replacement Grin Probably be the big Irish gamble on the day, along with Quevega. If he appreciates a strong gallop, as many think he will, then he's a huge price. He will be carrying my few quid on day one anyway!

i know goretski, its almost impossible to judge mate, because as has been pointed out numerous times he keeps beating the same horse, but its not his fault, ill never forget the absolute hiding he gave to GO NATIVE two years ago at leopardstown, left him for dead,GO NATIVE is not a bad benchmark, but i believe HURRICANE FLY has what it takes to win a CH,good luck in whatever u go for, running out of time to pick the winner Laugh ive only recently nailed my colours to the mast, took me a long time Laugh

Its a bit of a head**** alright! I remember it well, sprinted ten lengths clear between the ast and the line after laughing his nuts off at go native on the bridle! Its gonna be the first time in a long time he's encoutered a race like this, breakneck gallop from pillar to post. Its all fine and dandy sauntering around in small fields in Ireland but at the same time it may also be the making of him. Not knocking him. just struggling with the guesswork. Early days yet Laugh

I remember everyone getting this excited about Solwhit and Go Native last year...and look what happened!!

1) Menorah
2) Peddlers Cross
3) Dunguib

Well if it happened to Go Native and Solwhit last year its clearly going to happen to Hurricane Fly this year
By:

As much chance it will as it won't!

All I meant was everyone buys in to this odd belief that Willie Mullins is anything other than an ordinary trainer and this weird sense that every decent Irish horse is clearly a superstar!
By:

When: 09 Mar 11 11:13
ground drying out all the time and contrary to some opinions this can only help the horse. I'm quietly confident the little fellah will get my week off to a flyer (pardon the pun but I'm buzzing (pardon the pun again)
By:

When: 09 Mar 11 11:58
I think you would need to be ****censored*********** not to know the difference between a would be superstar and Hurricane Fly. No matter how you cut it this horse is pure class.

Hurricane Fly is not Go Native neither is he Solwhit so it's totally irrelevant what happened to them. Look what happened to Midday maybe Henry Cecil should stop sending horses to the Breeders.

While there is no real direct line between Hurricane Fly and the others he proved he was far superior to both Solwhit and Hurricane Fly. The fact Solwhit and Go Native have taken the scalps of Binocular, Sublimity, Katchit and Punjabi amonth other make them formidable horses in anyone's book.

It also indicates that their superior Hurricane Fly is well up to Champion Hurdle class and should be treated with the upmost respect.

i agree rondetto, and one thing we can see from all this is that no one is respecting hurricane fly! which is incredible,i mean we have donald mccain saying "hes beat the same horse in ireland on heavy ground,i cant have him at all"
oh how i hope the fly pi$$es all over him next tuesday

I'm not comparing the talents of Go Native, Solwhit and Hurricane Fly...im just saying, this time last year year everyone was saying Go Native is a great bet, Solwhit is a great bet and on the day the two of them failed; the same could easily happen to Hurricane Fly, we'll see!

Solwhit is not the horse he was, I will say that.
By:

When: 09 Mar 11 12:42
i keep saying that about Solwhit, but the HF backers(cv mainly)rip into me!!

Look,HF could literally be anything, and we just wont know till Tuesday.
He looks like a potential superstar, and if he wins impressively he will be one imo.
Personally i dont think he will win, think PC will prove to be the class act,but hf certainly could be!!

I think that Hurricane Fly looks much classier than Solwhit and Go Native.  Jumps well, pace to get himself out of trouble if he makes a couple of mistakes, travels well and has a change of gears.  I think Binocular's race winning burst of acceleration a couple from home will be impossible with Hurricane Fly in the field.  Then, when he does come off the bridle he looks like he really wants to get past his rivals.  Seems to have everything.  Just not sure I want him eyeballing a horse up to the line.  Should be able to lay off any bets at odds-on surely though.

Solwhit is not the horse he was, I will say that.

Solwhit may have gone off the boil in the last well but he maintained that couple of lengths adavatage over Thousands Stars he had in the Raebank so he can't have gone that far backwards.

As far as Go Native goes I sent an email to one of the Timeform lads on TR who was singing his praises and called him "Son of Harchibald" to their amusment.

He was easy to see through and those that backed him must have forgotten how he wasstopping in the Supreme and how he spat the dummy out 2 or 3 times gaist Hurricane Fly.

This is a totally genuine horse who travels well, jumps well, will get every yard of the trip and has an explosive turn of foot.

He may only have been beating Solwhit but in at least one of those races he wasn't considered to be fit enough to win and he still wouldn't be 100% for any of the others. yet he still won them all and easily.

He is going to be 110% spot on if Willie Mullin's record is anything to go by and oppose him at your peril.

That's coming from Binoculars biggest fan mate which may return to haunt me but I just cant see him coping with the fellow.

One thing I would be worried about is Hurricane Fly getting trapped too far back and giving too many lengths to the likes of Peddlers Cross and Binocular.

His 2 best performances to me were on Good in the Punchestown Hurdle and Yielding/soft in the Future Champions against Go Native.
The ground, whatever it is certainly won't hamper him.

With a clear run I think he's the one to beat.

The key to Hurricane Fly is keeping him relaxed before the start. If he's any way on his toes before the race then that won't be good for backers. Should be a fascinating race Cool

When Hurricane Fly finishes a laboured 6th/7th, i'll open a thread for all his backers to...well, make excuses I guess!!

Look, ive said this before in other threads; I don't know how you study your races Rondetto, but I make a list of all the attributes a horse needs to win it's respective race; ive done this for the Champion Hurdle and Menorah ticks EVERY single box, Hurricane Fly doesn't! Simple as that. I can't back a horse with question marks about him, and like it or not Hurricane Fly has questions to answer on the day, Menorah doesn't, he's answered them all in style, and with half a points difference in their price I can't for the life of me understand why people want to back Hurricane Fly over him!!

There's a lot of talk about 'mug money' on here and for me Hurricane Fly is attracting mug money, because everyone who's backed him are guessing, they're guessing he handles the track, they're guessing he'll stay up the hill, they're guessing he'll handle the occasion!

Your post is antogonistic but I'm not going to reply.

Basically Hurricane Fly backers are mugs is what you're saying.

I'd like to know how many boxes were ticked by Binocular last year, Punjabi the year before, Katchit before that and Sublimity before that.
By:

When: 09 Mar 11 18:40
The only MUG on this thread is you dwn,on here attacking the Hurricane again i see,in your amature eyes he might not tick every box,but in a lot of peoples eyes he ticks every box twice and if you think its just guess work that people are backing him for the CH then you are very naive anb 'your When Hurricane Fly finishes a laboured 6th/7th, i'll open a thread for all his backers to...well, make excuses I guess' just proves that and is going to make you look, once again, very stupid.
from memory you are a huge Cue Card Fan and cant see him beat,i could easily turn round and quote you by saying that you are just guessing by backing him,how do you know he is better than Sprinter S or spirit  son or zaidpour, they have never raced each other so you are just guessing he is better

Hurricane is unbeatable and will be given a Timeform raiting of no less than 175 after his destruction of this field!!

imo- h fly has a huge chance, i have backed him several times over weeks, but i also think dunguib is great value, my reasons been that when these two horses met dunguib pulled ridicoulsly hard  and ruined his chances, has he of settled would of been a totally different race, he was strong fav for the race so i feel if he settles he could have them all in serious trouble

what utter nonsense dwm, hurricane fly ticks all the boxes(far less question marks than menorah or peddlers)
he handles any ground, stays 2.5 miles well, was a serious horse on the flat and has bags of speed, and he's won 7 grade 1s(inc French champion hdl) beating a v good yardstick in Solwit(6 Grade 1s inc Aintree hdl) more easily every time they've met. He's also super tough and has a trainer who is the very best in the business imo.Absolutely no doubt he'll stay and of course he will handle the track, why wouldnt he.No guessing from this quarter mate. Menorah,on the other hand, has lots and lots of questions to answer still.

When: 09 Mar 11 19:23
listen to mr badger.
this is getting stupid lads.
HF is unbeatable, and Its mugs who are backing HF are both stupid comments.

Now,to be honest their are probably 4 or 5 horses in this race that could turn out to be really special horses, and those same 4 or 5 could also turn out to be disappointing.
By all means swap opinions and try to back up yer judgements, but having a swipe at horses that could really be anything is just plain ridiculous, and bl00dy tiresome.
Come on lads, less than a week now!!!

Haha, yeah see this is the problem; you're all filling the gaps in your heads around Hurricane Fly with the wishes of your hearts...you all love the horse, and you won't have a work said against him! You're in good company with this method I suppose; Paul Nicholls does the same with Kauto Star!

I am a huge fan of Cue Card TheFormMan, but I can assess his chance based on bags of course form, so that's a pathetic comparison! How do you know Hurricane Fly will handle Cheltenham!? Have you taken him for a spin round the course!? No, of course you haven't, so you don't know, you're guessing!! How do you know he'll go up the hill!? You don't, you're guessing!? How do I know Menorah will handle the track!? Easily, he's won round it three times! How do I know he likes the hill!? Easy again, he's stormed up it on all three of those times!!

Look lads, it's basic stuff, im not asking you to conceed anything complicated; you must have a doubt in your mind that he won't handle conditions! Please tell me, how can you be sure!? It's a ridiculous statement!

CV, how is my comment anymore antagonistic than the opening post!? The only difference is I don't happen to agree with it! Yeah I could sit in Menorah threads agreeing how good he is, but sod that, id rather row my case with people of a differing opinion!

Oh, and while we're at it CVByrne MA in Statistics...Montjeu has sire no winners in 31 attempts at Cheltenham, how do you assess that one!? You guessing this one will break the trend!?
