dwm I am assuming you have layed the horse as you are so convinced it will get beat. What price have you layed it at. I would like to back the horse...What price would you like to lay me???

Did Sizing Europe get up the hill in the Greatwood?
|
|
By:
perhaps HF will win without getting up the hill - not like it has n't happened before. [;)]

By:
Tavaris, even Starluck would've gotten up the hill off 137 ffs.
![]() I do agree though, ridiculous comments about Sizing not getting up the hill. |

Just watched his Punchestown win again on the youtube link, after the race it was announced that Lads cut him from 10/1 to 5/1 for 2011 Ch Hurdle.
Now that was just a snapshot of the market and there may have been better but he is still that price now after showing more consistency, durabilty, speed, and versatilty over this season than was evident then. Not sure if any of his rivals can make anything like that claim but they have all shortened, some significantly (not sure about Binocular's price pre season but suspect slightly bigger than now) |

i cant help thinking hurricane fly is the one at the front end of the market i give the least chance to in the c/h.as i said earlier , beating the one paced sohlwit a couple of times doesnt overly impress me.having crabbed this horse i do think its wide open and cant begin to imagine what will win the race.

Solwhit is not onepaced,he was made to look so by a special horse.
prior to last years champion,in wich solwhit clearly didn't give his running due to an interupted preparation,he was cleaning up most of the gd 1 hdles in ireland. |

i think so many of the comments on this thread are ridiculous
hf has been extremely consistent through his career and has shown a very high cruising speed and a good turn of foot but how good he really is, nobody really knows you cant say with 100% conviction he will p**s up or get beat obviously after the result the people who GUESSED right can come on and say i told you so his record is 7/9 in grade 1 won easily in most of them won over further and on different grounds he has beaten the same horse in slowly run races never been to the festival jumps slightly right at his hurdles his impressive victory over go native was not the same go native we saw win the supreme there are arguments for and against for hf and the other leading players in this race. which imo makes this the race of the meeting everyone has an opinion but to slate anyone for having that opinion is wrong |
|
By:
FFS will people stop going on about what a 2m superstar Solwhit is.
Even his trainer has given up believing he's got enough speed to even be ENTERED in a champion hurdle. Mopping up soft-ground small-field weak grade 1s in Ireland. yawwwwnnnnn. |
|
By:
TheFormMan you missed a trick there, should the headline not read 'Hurricane' takes Prestbury park by storm! or 'Hurricane' storms to success in champion hurdle! or worst case scenario in your case... Binocular 'sees' off rivals in champion!

as david duggan said yesterday re the "montjeu" stat at cheltenham, one person or person's who will be delighted with that stat are the coolmore boys!
hes a flat sire,if your anyway half decent as a montjeu, 98% of the time you will never run over hurdles! hurricane fly is part of that 2% that was a half decent montjeu on the flat and has subsequently ran over hurdles,he is just too classy for this lot,and i hope he proves it on the track, and he will be carrying my money come tuesday |
|
By:
VIDUKA - Of course I haven't laid the horse...yet!! Only a mug would lay him at his current price given that all the little boys on here will be falling over themselves to back him in running at 1.8 as he cruises approaching the 2nd last!
I'll stick up 1.8 unmatched as they jump away and watched the clueless f**kers mop it up! |
|
By:
Hurricane Fly certainly seems to bring out some binomial opinions on both sides. I am looking forward to seeing how good he is. So many unexposed horses in this race plus the previous year's winner. The race appears to be set-up for someone to post a big figure. Bring on tuesday

Can't believe some of the rationale being used to oppose Hurricane Fly! I'd echo what TJ, CV (particurly on the Champion Hurdle thread), Evra and Rondetto are saying - think this horse is a superstar and will be betting accordingly.
The Solwhit thing is boring. As others have pointed out, what horses have Peddlers Cross or Menorah beaten that would get next or near Solwhit? The Cheltenham hill. The horse hasn't even ran at the course, yet won't win because of the course!? What? Binocular won the Champion Hurdle, beaten twice previous when popular opinion was that he didn't get "up the hill". Punjabi beaten twice - Came back to win a Champion Hurdle. Sublimity beaten in a Supreme, came back to turn over the reigning champ Brave Ince, and dual champ Hardy Eustace. Montjeu. Irrelevant. Won in the dark was third in the Triumph, Blue Bajan and Noble Prince have both run well in the County Hurdle. I don't think it was the fact that they were sired that got them beat though. It's a stat - but an irrelevant one. |
|
By:
Nowadaya over 2 miles in my honest opinion i think that Menorah,PC,OW,Dunguib, and Binocular would all beat Solwhit comfortably.
oh and PC has beaten Binocular. |

By:
A field here including Medermit, Solwhit, Punjabi, Dunguib, Thousand Stars and others - yet look how he travels all over them and how much ground he makes up between the last 2 fences, all while hard on the steel - and then picks up to win going away.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NDxElgbe64 Never, ever get tired of watching that clip. He's the real deal. |
|
By:
None of them with the possible exception of Dunguib would get anywhere near a Churdle victory imo.
He could be a superstar i would say that, but his Irish form dont say that,he has to do what he has been doing in Ireland on Tuesday. |
|
By:
Solwhit very under-estimated by some!
Awful pity he misses the Stayers, was going to have a sizeable bet on him. Especially after Davey Russell said he'd only be riding him for a place. |
|
By:
In Ireland he's won on good ground, soft ground and heavy ground; he's won over 2m - 2m4f and in races run at a crawl and at a good lick - he's delivered under all those conditions.
Last time out Katie Walsh went hard from the front all the way on Thousand Stars, yet still couldn't get him off the bridle. An inch of reign, a little slap on the neck and away he went. The race before it was run at a crawl, some 20 seconds slower than standard, yet still won in the same manner. I don't think he's got any negatives; he can handle everything thrown at him. He's good enough to run in group races on the flat. Class act. If he tracks Binocular, then his toe will quicken past that one and Binocular won't be able to quicken again to go with him. ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM |
|
By:
Thats possible, but this opposition is a lot better than that in Ireland.
|
|
By:
Look, my original point was not that the hill would beat Hurricane Fly (although I was tempted into the argument), it was that despite how good you all seem to say he is, what a superstar he is, he's never been round Cheltenham, and you CANNOT say you know he'll handle the track, because you don't know! No one does! You're guessing he will, in much the same way im guessing he won't! I know Menorah will, and so in my book without that doubt, which can have a HUGE effect on a horse's chance at Cheltenham, Menorah rates a better bet!
What am I saying that's wrong here? I don't understand. |
|
By:
the bit about Sizsing Europe not getting up the hill was unfathomable, imo. Never mind his Arkle win, take a look at him routing the opposition in the Greatwood on testing ground carrying a welterweight and then tell me he does n't get up the hill.
|
|

Awful pity he misses the Stayers, was going to have a sizeable bet on him. Especially after Davey Russell said he'd only be riding him for a place. ........................................ Oh yes. trainer realises champion hurdle is a pipe dream so he's put in the stayers where his jockey says he'll be ridden for a place!! lets not forget this is a horse that's won 1 of it's last 6 races! WHAT A MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
|
By:
I've just watched the race again and im still not convinced he's a natural up the hill; I appreciate what you're saying about the Greatwood, and he did win an Arkle, I suppose my point was although it doesn't hamper him too much I certainly don't believe it's in his favour!
|
|
By:
We didn't know if Hurricane Fly would handle Punchestown, Fairyhouse or Leopardstown before he went there and won Grade Ones at all three tracks - So I guess his ability to "handle the hill" is a risk we'll have to take. Either the horse is good enough or not, handling the track is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.
|

By:
As an aside, have any figures ever been put on the incline of the famous Cheltenham hill from the last flight/fence to the finish line? And how would it compare with other Grade One Jumps courses.
My own visual interpretation tells me that Navan / Naas have gradients in or around that of Cheltenham? |
