fair point eric....i am inclined to side with the out-stayed thought though, once on heavy ground and both against the best opposition...sometimes i think we are all susceptible to tarring these smooth travelling types with being a bridal horse the moment they get beat after once again travelling well in a race.......it cost me dearly with sizing europeCry.

he impressed me the other day , particularly the way he finished the final 2 fences off, even though he was clear, geraghty didn't just pop them , he asked the horse to put in a couple of good leaps which he did do and finished off well.

I think Ghizao is the best we've seen so far, he has won a really competitive race at the course this season, will love day one Cheltenham ground, has the right connections, jumps really well upreserving energy nlike most we have seen and has a v good natural speed for 2m and an excellent kick. I am expecting further developments for the Arkle though and it isnt prospective stayer and your bet in the race Spirit River.

FR smashed Ghizao in the Neptune, and as FR has proved he can jump fine, then see no reason for Ghizao to beat him next time they meet

looks a bit classier to me does FR

lol... did you not learn with Celestial Halo and Medermit that fences are a totally different game to hurdles. The breathing op on Ghizao would also have helped, cant remember a better Arkle candidate since Moscow Flyer, Ghizao will be a strong Queen Mother candidate next season imo he has shown everything. Finian's Rainbow is being kept to soft races so his finishing kick is not tested Henderson could have had him in that race to see how he measured up but is happy with head in chest wins (which he wont be getting at Chelts in March).

Fences are indeed a different ball game,i always am saying that, but FR has proved he can jump so whats your point??
Fact is FR proved to be superior over hurdles and can jump a fence,no disputing that.

Point is, as explained in detail previously, when raised in class Finian's Rainbow has never found a Champion's kick.

Still thrashed Ghizao though!!

And imo this cannot finish is a bit of a myth.He travels very well, but does find as he did in the Challow last season on desperate ground, got beat, fair enough, but by the ground and not cos he cant finish. His Neptune run he got beat by decent horses, one of which could win the CHurdle!!

Totally pointless budd believe me.

Budd, as you know im in your boat with FR, but also had an eachway play now on Ghizao at 7/1 because I cant see him being out of the frame given he has course form and jumps great.

You are trying to find a future Queen Mother winner here, the horse with the best kick there is over fences. Hand on heart based on what you have seen is Finian's Rainbow that horse?

He could be but has a lot to prove to get near Ghizao for me.

Still think Captain Chris has a major chance in the Arkle on quicker ground he has run extremely well and Cheltenham March ground is what he needs imo.

Eric, you implied i had not learnt, mentioning Medermit etc.
Thats rubbish, and if you had read posts by myself over last few years you would know that i dont back chasers on hurdles form.I like to see them jump a fence.FR has jumped a fence, and was impressive.I then can also look at hurdles form as a guide compared with other horses, knowing that the horse can jump a fence. And it just happens that the horse that could be his main threat in the Arkle,he has proved to be superior to over hurdles.Dont mean he will beat Ghizao,of course, jumping is a whole new ball game we agree, but it is there in the book all the same.

No worries Eric.^other way round for me mate.

Not thinking about future QM horse, just trying to work the Arkle out!!
Arkle winners dont neccesseraly mean QM winners.

Thanks Eric. I would not take any horse in the Arkle at a single digits 3 months before. The record books dont make it look very generous to me. I do have a well documented very large bet on FR at 33's so will sit tight. Best of British

eric ghizao is a proven mud lark todays ground was horrible hes got to prove himself on good ground come march

Finians Rainbow is still the one for me. Captain Chris is a total write off for me now. Was really fancied today and failed to deliver again. I think the horse is over hyped myself. Ghizao for me looks an absolute athlete of a horse but Finians has him held on hurdles ratings and he jumps like a natural. I see no reason that Ghizao will beat him.

Captain Chris will improve an awful lot on good ground he needs especially over the stiff Chelts track.

I don't like Captain Chris' jumping tbh. I'm not knocking him he's clearly talented but he's shy of top class for me.

Hells Bay basically dotted up there but for the mistake at the last and he didn't see which way Finnians went at NewburyLaugh

Indeed a good form boost, had he not clouted the last HB would have beaten Medermit pretty easily i think.

Medermit ran a stormer aswell and i'd be surpsied if they drop back to two miles after that.

Hells is likely to be much more effective at the longer trip we still need to see Finians against a true 2 miler classy horse in a finish to see whether the kick is there up the hill. Boost for him no doubt but wouldnt be getting too carried away lets see him against a class speedster first.
By:
buddeliea
When: 01 Jan 11 14:56
Dont think any of the fancied horses, basically 2 of them!!,have faced a class speedster yet,and probably wont till the Akle itself. It does now look however that its difficult to say which has the better form.
I Would think backers of both Ghizao abd FR are quiet happy at the moment.

ghizao has twice beaten captain chris who reportedly has suspected breathing problems, quite how his arkle credentials can be descibed as outstanding on this alone is baffling. The theory of how fr has been undone at the highest level holds little water when a stronger case for that very argument can be made when considering ghizao whom was not only beaten a country mile at the festival but also when beaten 10 lengths off a mark of 136 in a handicap hurdle at aintree surely ghizao has more to prove at the higher level?

totally agree

FR will only have one more run back to newbury at the end of the month thats all he needs
