A very good 3yo with Jarvis, but that was immense.
Beaten by being keen on hurdle debut, looks like a quick pace suits it down to ground as best performances, today included come from off pace. Champion Hurdle? Maybe just maybe. |

Was thinking the same myself TD, has just thumped a a couple of decent sorts rated in the 140's, very impressive.

Main worry would be seemingly very ground dependent based on flat and hurdles, never tried on anything softer than Good to Soft. Lets see what connections say, but they have to be looking at something like the Fighting Fifth as an experiment to see what he is capable of.

Immenseley impressive. Barizan a pretty solid yardstick too imo. Couldnt believe how well he was travelling coming round the final bend. I was almost as impressed as I was with Cue Card.

Connections say the Greatwood next month is a possibility or that he might take the 'Starluck route' via the 4-y-o hurdle at Haydock next month. They say he will not run on proper soft ground, which would make you wary of a Champion Hurdle bet (33s with Hills). Having said that, he's from a small yard where one like him rarely comes along, so if his progress continues you could see him turn out in the big one whatever the ground.
I'm often as wary of horses winning off a very fast pace as those scooting in off a slow one, but his hurdling was most accomplished for one of his experience, and he won under hands and heels. He took a bump on take-off at the 2nd which didn't faze him. He slightly fluffed three out at what would have been a critical point for many, but he was travelling so well - as he had done throughout - that it didn't trouble him. Also, he not only has tactical pace and jumping skill, but looks most amenable, happy to be reined back as Molloy took a pull turning in, and immediately responsive when the jockey asked him to quicken (excellent ride, I thought). Almost certainly no flash in the pan given his progressive profile, seems to love Cheltenham, great traveller whose hurdling can only get even sharper, he makes a lot of value appeal for the Champion at 33s given that he'd be a third of the price if stabled in a top yard. The new season is already brewing some potent mixtures. |

Good evening gentlemen; 33 still available with Hills. Using easyodds, I cannot find any others betting though it might be worth hunting individually as the Hills offer is not mentioned on easyodds.

Serious contender imo. If the horse was trained by a big stable he would be 10s top for the Champion Hurdle. I would like to know the aim before backing him tho.

Have to say I'm a bit disappointed with 33's though. As visually impressive as he was, it doesnt scream tremendous value to me in what could be a tremendously competitive renewal.

Agree with CCM here - was very taken with the performance but id like to see him do it again b4 id be interested and dont think 33s is much value personally

It will indeed be a very competitive renewal (tremendously so
 ) but if he does it again in the Greatwood - a very fair trial, depending on his new rating - the 33s will be long gone.Had he come from nowhere, with questionable form figures, and produced exactly the same performance, I'd be doubtful. But he's won his last four over hurdles (3rd on his debut) and is obviously very genuine and consistent - out of the first 3 just twice in his last 15 runs (4th beaten 2L, and 12th, beaten under 11L in a class 2 at Newmarket). Value, like beauty, is always in the eye of the beholder [smiley:crazy] |

I have been to cheltenham for the weekend and that performance blew me away and i really hope the horse performs on soft ground during the winter.
If that was trained by one the top trainers their would be carnage. Even thou Barizan can set up a race that was a top class performance. |

I think everyone is getting a bit carried away he was impressive but still has at least 20lb to find to be even near the champion hurdle contenders

Cant really see a connection between that run and the CH.Looked good but that was a million miles away from the real thing,needs to be a lot bigger price to interest me.I do like to look at potential outsiders and try and beat the bookie,but 33 is not value imo.Twice that i might have a bit of interest.

Quoted by bet 365 for the Supreme - if he is ok for that race then that would seem a very decent price with current market leader Cue Card just as likely to run in the Neptune at this stage.

Betting on the Supreme has now been suspended by Betfair. Presumably because they have added Clerks Choice when he isn't eligible for the race.

Imho it wasn't that impressive a time given the ground. Trainer has won little of note.Beat 2 god but not great horses yesterday(Definitely not CH standard) May start with this one but don't see 33s as particular value. Much prefer to hold fire and see him move up in grade and judge then.

Easy to rate him in the 160s on the bare form, even if you allow for barizan running 10lbs below his triumph hurdle run. 33s looks very fair for a horse doing that on only his 5th hurdles start over the CD. Trainer obviously a massive question mark (anybody know anything about him?) but he's obviously done a superb job with this horse so far. Don't see how anyone can knock the price.

Very poor knowledge from betafir to add him to the Supreme!
Will be very interesting to see how he is campaigned. Have they left plenty to work on? Has he peaked too early this season (at least with aview to a Festival challenge)? |

Looking at times in a more depth, it turns out that of the last five Champion Hurdles run on good ground, only Istabraq bettered the time Clerk's Choice put up yesterday.
I have used Timeform's going descriptions as I do not trust the 'official' descriptions offered at the Festival. In 1998 Istabraq won in 3.49.10: a year later he clocked 3.49.01. Yesterday, Clerk's Choice sauntered home by 21 lengths under little more than hands and heels in 3.49.25, Early pace would have, of course, contributed yesterday, but Rooster Booster's good ground time in what is described in the RP as a race where Intersky Falcon set 'a furious pace', was more than 5 seconds slower than Clerk's Choice. Bear in mind too that Istabraq was 6 when he won his first Champion. Clerk's Choice almost equalled that time at four-years-old, not fully pushed out. |

Great to be back at Cheltenham yesterday and to see the horse win in the manner he did was visually impressive.
I do think that Champion Hurdle talk is a little premature,which is only my opinion. If he was to bolt up in the fighting fifth against a useful field then yes i wish all connected all the very best. Great to see a small yard with something of potential.What would be people saying if he wore the gold and green hoops or the white and red halved silks. Cheltenham isnt really a front runners track and Barizan and Royal Mix wont be winning any Champion Hurdle. Williams tactics over the 2 days very shocking and his 2 big favs most disappointing and to be honest major lays. |

I don't have the stats to hand but I'm pretty sure Cheltenham is one of the best tracks in the country for front-runners. |

Fair point BJG, but balanced out to a large extent, imo, by age difference and experience - Istabraq's first CH was his 11th run over hurdles.
I'm not saying CC will win the Champion Hurdle, just that 33/1 represents very good value. |
