May have jinxed Rashford here - didn't want to aftertime
In the middle of an interesting review - more to follow ![]() |
|
By:
Suspected I had jinxed him. However collateral info is useful.
As I knew you were unable to sleep worrying about where a Gp1 winner was going to come from , I decided to review the candidates i.e. france-galop dbase of offspring.Organising this in terms of known form, made me think that those at the top while tantalisingly close will likely fall short of a Gp1. I am not sure 2yos are Z's forte so am also ruling that out. Oddly, RASHFORD would not have had to improve too much to be considered. However he was beaten on merit today. If he turned up for the Prix du Jockey Club, only pennies could be advised. At this time, the only unbeaten Zarak in this dbase is Andre Fabre's MARQUISAT for Godolphin SNC who amazingly won on 2yo debut at Saint Cloud at the end of October. He is a big lump and while those behind have done zero for the form, he was actually just pushed out hands and heels when the penny dropped, to win handsomely. GODOLPHIN SNC only have 3 entries in the Prix du Jock, all trained by Fabre. In addition, they have about a dozen Charlie Applebys incl Silver Knott who was 2nd to Victoria Road in the Breeders Cup Jue Turf at Keeneland. Those 2 are currently 2nd and 3rd favs on oddschecker betting for the PdJC, but are also well entered in the UK/Ire. I think Fabre will throw his toys out of the pram if he doesn't get a shot at the race for Godolphin. So I am looking at his 3. Birr Castle was 6th today in Rashford's race and does not look progressive. Guet Apens won 2nd time up, again against modest opposition, but seemed more workmanlike. THEREFORE, I am putting all the eggs in the MARQUISAT basket (Easter Sunday metaphor there). He has no upcoming entries, but is still listed as in training on Goodolphin.com. Worth keeping an eye on for me. Here is the link to his win: https://www.france-galop.com/fr/course/detail/2022/P/RW52bXZhT2Q5V3hNYktGZThIMkdDQT09 Can't find any antepost prices including either Marquisat or Rashford at this time. FINALLY Marquisat is out of an unraced (I think) daughter of Duke of Marmalade named LA MARCHESA. Her 2018 filly foal Luisa Casati, by Vadamos, is listed class and was 3rd, 2 weeks ago in a Listed event at Saint Cloud, beaten a tete et un nez @ 48/1. I wish I had studied earlier ![]() AND ABSOLUTELY FINALLY, if the above Plan A does not pan out, I am a big Adlerflug fan (just had a few quid on Alter Adler to pip Haya Zark). So following German lines the Zarak colt ARCANDI is in the PdJC and was 3rd in a Gp3 last time out. I can't forget my £2 antepost on Torquator Tasso 2 years ago @ 180/1. We nearly got ejected from the bar at Kelso races that day for singing the German National Anthem. |

Need a winner for a change of luck.
Just noticed the next race up is the PRIX ZARKAVA. Do you think BAIYKARA will be trying to win her granny's race? ![]() |
|
By:
PRIX ZARKAVA - saw the size of the winner Pleasant Jane in the stalls and it was too late to change my bet
![]() Watch the replay, stall 1, https://www.france-galop.com/fr/course/detail/2023/P/SHl5a3FPdWs0ZHBmQUZSWlhLdFd2UT09 That was a no contest and bodes well if MARQUISAT has got even bigger from 2 to 3 as a good big 'un will always beat a good little 'un. |

Mr M.. thanks for reviews... out of luck today, I expected a couple of places really.. quite disappointed but Haya Zark sweated badly and something happened coming out of stall, Soumillon looked down, maybe lost a shoe, I shall disregard that poor run..
Never expected Baiykara to win that, needs further .. Rashford I had hopes for but just not good enough there.. expect he'll be around Le Croise La Roche or somesuch.. Yeah I know Marquisat... but like you say form is nothing but a win over 1500m probably a bonus.. I think he's a 12f horse.. My main hopes are with Zagrey when he runs again in France.. 2400m.. In Germany, Arcandi had his chances last year... Straight is another you may have missed.. he's fancied for the Germany Derby.. and Sirjan might pick up something in Italy.. Otherwise, it's Bo Zenith winning the gr. 1 juvenile hurdle at Aintree next week.. I think it'll suit him.. and I haven't given up with Haya Zark.. |
|
By:
I've just noticed Rashford's full sister, a 4yo unraced filly called Rasca, is lot 9 for the Vente online sale April 9.. expect she'll fetch something nice with this connection.
...and Baiykara might win the Arc .. lol.. |
|

Keeping my fingers crossed with declarations
![]() |
|
By:
..Perhaps an entry in the Prix Greffulhe tomorrow.. ?
|
|
By:
Nothing for Marquisat so far, perhaps the Prix Hocquart might be on the agenda, or the Prix de l'Avre / Suresnes ..
Crown Princesse interesting for me in the gr. 3 Prix Cleopatre on the 21st.. La Parisienne returns in the Prix Allez France.. Sabio Cen gets an entry in the gr. 1 Prix Ganay.. Zagrey for the Grand Prix de St. Cloud [I hope].. |
|
By:
Best of luck to BO ZENITH in the gr. 1 hurdle at Aintree tomorrow... he'll need some luck.. and to give 7lbs to fillies is a tall order.. hope it's not too soft either..
I admit, I'd rather Tom Cannon was aboard.. |
|
By:
Gutted would be an understatement.... great run from Bo Zenith, so close, and good ride.. 7lbs just too much..
On the nod... oh God !.. |
|
By:
Golden Maverick in the 6.00 at Southwell, such lowly fare, but I took 12/1 as he's been running over shorter and H Doyle is up.. and it's nice to see one over here..
|
|
By:
Well that was a struggle.. always best to do e.w. with Zaraks.. Doyle did well to get that into 3rd.. they mostly need a longer trip as this one obviously does..
Delighted for Marco Ghiani on the winner, he's now 6 from last 7 rides.. I've always been a fan of his too.. |
|
By:
I'm waiting on Titanium in the 3.00 at Fontainebleau..
Mr M, if you're looking in.. we were talking about Marquisat, and I notice today he has left Fabre's and been exported but I do not know where to... could you help me out at all here? heaven help us if he's gone to Dubai.. Such a shame, I had high hopes for a French campaign.. |
|
By:
Titanium kept the race, surprisingly, after that ride..

My boy - SORTIE EN VUE D'EXPORTATION
Luckily I couldn't find a price for the Prix du Jockey Club.Still listed as in training on Godolphin.com so I decided to take the bull by the horns and emailed them direct for news. I reminded them that in the first Godolphin £1 million fantasy stable contest some time in the early 2000's I was lying 12th with 2 weeks to go only to get plagued by non runners. Smashed my PC so never found out where I finished ![]() Have to console myself counting my Titanium winnings. Think the stagger was just loose ground and we may have needed to dodge a bullet had the interfered with horse been 2nd. |
|
By:
PS Marquisat is/was the only Zarak in all Godolphin in training which is about 600 animals.
Might be they were not collecting Dubawi's as they have the original. |
|
By:
PPS - In Time's half sister MIXED REALITY (by Shalaa) debut in the 4.14 at fontainebleau.
Annoying not on the exchanges and at 9/1 just £1 in case she won ![]() |
|
By:
Mr M.. lol..with the comp.. well we deserve a reply from Godolphin, and thanks for asking there... I hadn't thought of that..
I've looked at that Titanium race so many times, he had the whip in the wrong hand didn't he? but like you say we got a bit lucky.. 5/2 early.. Mixed Reality worth following next time out I think.. Yeah, whenever I see 'Sortie en vue d'Exportation' or 'Sortie Provisoire' my heart skips a beat.. I hope he hasn't gone to the U.S. I can't keep track of those .. Bevan tomorrow in the 4pm Longchamp h'cap.. Maxim up.. |
|
By:
o/t.. but I was very impressed with American Flag in the Prix de Fontainebleau yesterday.. Soumillon seemed to be as well..
I'll be surprised if O'Brien has anything to beat that in the French Guineas.. |
|
By:
Hope you got 28/1 Mr M... returned 12/1 I think...
Great win for Crown Princess in the Prix Cleopatre gr. 3.. difficult to fancy on form but always worth an e.w. bet... came with a rattling run last to first after having to switch so value for more.. A filly with a future after that, hope she goes for the French Oaks but I think she'll stay further, so possibly a Vermeille prospect in September.. |
|
By:
Village Voice goes in at Navan, Listed Salsabil Stakes, beating an O'Brien, always nice that... delighted for Mrs Harrington too, as she's not been well..
8/1 to finish first 4 as I didn't think it would be good enough today.. lucky to get a run up the inner but that was a slog.. |
|
By:
A big weekend for Zarak..
No one expects Zarak The Brave to beat the favourite in the 4yo hurdle at Punchestown, he's had a bout of colic and an injury, so will likely need the run, but I have a feeling his season may not be over just yet.. in 3 weeks time is the French 4yo champion hurdle at Auteuil.. Mullins has won this before with a horse owned by Munir/Souede, and it's one they target so I'm thinking that may be his ultimate aim.. entries for that race mid May.. At Longchamp Sunday I have a whole host of contenders... La Parisienne in the Prix Allez France, now has Soumillon aboard, they appear to have ditched Gerald Mosse.. distance a bit short, but very soft ground in her favour.. she really should win.. Why they persist with Baiykara over 10f I'm not sure.. best form over further.. Sabio Cen in the Prix Ganay is a tall order, but I think he's better than his current price. I think he has an e.w. chance.. I always believed he would have given Vadeni a run for his money in the Prix du Jockey Club last year, if he hadn't got injured.. Sirjan is interesting in the Prix de l'Avre with Karburan. Sirjan won a gr. 3 in Italy - modest form but I'm hoping for good things from this one in particular.. Marzouk should win the colts maiden.. Rashford has O'Brien's to beat Monday in the Prix Greffulhe, but up in trip will suit.. Straight runs in the highly competitive Bavarian Classic at Munich, Monday.. can't see him winning.. |
|
By:
Zarak The Brave - what a great run, he is the best 4yo hurdler in training, giving 7lbs to Lossiemouth, she had to work for that...
Zarak The Brave [Zarak] [Lossiemouth] Bo Zenith [Zarak] ..I hope he now goes to Auteuil.. |
|
By:
ZARAK DAY not off to the best possible start. In another world Marzouk wins and watching close ups of Mosse 'in the drive' position NOT is slightly embarassing. The 1.68 place was a tad thin.
When I croak I might just come back as a jockey ![]() |
|
By:
Almost Mr M, but not quite.. I'll be surprised if Mosse doesn't get a suspension for that ride as he interfered with a couple in the straight..
Marzouk fought back, on the nod really.. I was pleased with that run... Mosse, like Peslier, both a bit past it.. |
|
By:
13.33 no pudding for me
![]() Had flags in 5 of the 6 runners. SiIRJAN my place pick pipped. Still that was a hell of a race for a Listed event. |
|
By:
Yeah, lovely run by Sirjan, a horse I've really liked since his Italian win last year.. maybe a bit short of work, tired at the end, I'd like to see him in the German Derby, I think he's got some nice races to win in Germany..
|
|
By:
Don't forget Golden Maverick coming up at Wetherby.. Buick up.. needs further than a mile surely, but probably it's best chance here so far..
|
|
By:
Probably our only winner today Mr M... thank you Buick.. last to first, won well..
|
|
By:
Ganay - Sabio Sen likely out of his depth but re-watched last run. Might have been lack of a run there from an exaggerated hold up position.
A shilling on for the win and a couple of quid asking for 50/1 for 3 places on the exchange. Keeping bet after the off. Just in case he can run thru' those falling over one another going to the line. ![]() P.S a slow muddling pace might help too. |
|
By:
What were they thinking of, going off in front like that,.. he ran a nice race, not beaten far really, I've always thought he was at least a gr. 2 horse..
Held up, he might have ran on late.. oh well, .. there's a good race in him to be won.. |
|
By:
Not sure that plan was best. But they did have a go and when he got the Godolphin off the bit, I had a short burst of hope.btw You fired up Olivier Peslier by referring to him as an old bu99er above. 14.15 He deliberately took out BAUYRZHAN MURZABAYEV at the back of the peloton when his horse KHOCHENKO was done, costing me a right few quid on a 4-places bet on GAIDAR who flew home for 6th. Might be worth watching in case the French are taking umbrage at Murzabayev's success. |
|
By:
Well my 50/1 was never matched. £165 traded on Sabio @ 1.10 for the place in running.
|
|
By:
lol.. I'll watch that Peslier race later Mr M, I missed it.. I loved him in his day, on Goldikova etc..
Actually, we've had another winner, but not on the t.v. and no replay.. Nicolaj won at Le Roche Posay.. Couldn't get a bet on.. La Parisienne and Baiykara next up.. give us another winner for pete's sake.. |
|
By:
Better hope Pleasant Jane doesn't eat Baiykara as a snack in the stalls. She is a big girl. See above.
Shillings on La Parisienne, Pleasant Jane and the Adlerflug - India. Devasted Dettori is on Pleasant Jane. ![]() |
|
By:
Poor runs there really, very disappointing.. they both need to go up in trip.. La Parisienne doesn't seem to have recaptured her earlier 3yo form.. bit of a shame, I had such hopes for her..
|
|
By:
Not sure Barzalona has covered himself in glory though.
![]() |
|
By:
HOMEWORK Monday Prix Gruffalo
![]() RASHFORD much more likely to improve for the extra distance to reverse places with GREENLAND tomorrow. Soumillon jumps ship, for Greenland but that may not be a bad thing. I see Greenland as a poss non stayer. Harryway the danger for me. |
|
By:
Hope so Mr M, it would be nice to beat O'Brien again.. Rashford just lacks a finishing kick it seems to me..
Yeah Barzalona left it late, came with a wet sail.. I feel sure once she gets back up in trip there's a good race to be won with Baiykara.. Well done with India.. Adlerflug on very soft, can't go wrong can you?.. Well I've had 2 wins today at Wetherby and Le Roche Posay, crappy races at crappy tracks.. lol.. typical Zarak.. Rashford and Straight tomorrow in Germany... off topic, not Zarak, but I hope Shavasana can make all in Rome tomorrow for the Italian 1000.. despite Vargiu going for the other one.. |
