That should be Christopher Head who trains Highwind, not C Ferland.. I like Freddie Head's son..
Tomorrow, Wed. I have Grand Balcon in the 12.00 at Pau and I'm waiting for prices on that one. Sure to go close. |

..best of luck to Bo Zenith [by Zarak].. at Kempton, Tuesday, in the race I know as the Adonis Hurdle.. interesting race in prospect... in the same ownership as Perseus Way, impressive Leicester winner..
By:
Not declared, so we shall have to wait another day..
By:
..the Adonis Hurdle is of course at the end of Feb..
Sunday, Punchestown, my old favourite Sinbad Le Marin, or Sinbad The Sailor as I call him, makes debut in the maiden 3yo hurdle.. I've been waiting for this one but it seems unlikely he's amongst the top rank in that overflowing stable.. 33/1 for the Triumph.. Mullins again. I'm not sure quite what is the point in sending every promising horse from France to one stable in Ireland, it's making their racing rather boring it seems to me. Bordeaux winner Zarakhan makes hurdling debut at Pau tomorrow, 1.15 race.. he became rather mulish on the flat.. In the same race newcomer Gringo du Berlais looks of interest.. |
By:
Let's see what Bo Zenith can do today in the first at Sandown.. what a paltry turnout for a 4yo hurdle..
By:
Perhaps they should have left him in France, but I'm sure he's got to be better than that..
By:
Not often I get the chance to blow my own trumpet..
Yes Zara nice 7-1 winner today at Cagnes with M Guyon up.. She was down the field a few weeks ago at Deauville from a poor outside draw.. This is what I wrote then.. Ran wide, no chance. I think it'll win next time.. .. and I think she needs further, as she doesn't appear to have much turn of foot.. |
By:
Highwind got off the mark the other day, surprised he needs blinkers but he was quite impressive..
Today Crown Princesse ran a nice introductory race in a 3yo F maiden at Chantilly bumping into what looks like a really smart one trained by Fabre, Pensee du Jour.. who has entries in all the French classics, which were published today.. I have Marquisat, Rashford and Highwind in the Prix du Jockey Club.. |
By:
Zarak is certainly on the up. The Aga Khan stud has him, Siyouni and Sea The Stars on their smallish roster. Pound for pound they are probably the strongest outfit in Europe. I don't think anyone would have predicted that 5 or 6 years ago.
By:
Yes, I s'pose Siyouni is their best one..
I have Zagrey running today in a gr 3 at Meydan.. not a course I like, front runners track?.. but I think he's a gr. 2 over this trip so I have chances.. I'm on at 10/1.. I'm also looking at Lady Chapel in a h'cap at Chantilly... |
By:
I think they got first run on him again... good effort, there's a nice race to be won with Zagrey at Longchamp later on..
By:
Bo Zenith finally gets another chance today after some cancellations... can't see him troubling the Nicholls runner, so he has it all to do... I don't want to lose faith, so heart rules head unfortunately..
Sinbad at Gowran.. well Jeez, if he doesn't win that there's something wrong.. |
By:
woo hoo !!.. a nice double up.. I got 7/2 Bo and 5/1 Sinbad.. at least we saw a better Bo Zenith on this occasion but unlikely to trouble Lossiemouth, especially with the 7lbs concession.
Sinbad I'd like to see go back on the flat personally.. that wasn't much of a maiden.. |
By:
I wasn't expecting Iznik [12/1] to win at Cagnes today, but lady jockey Coralie Pacquet rode a fine finish to pip Maxim Guyon on the line.. too much to say she outrode him, Iznik pulled out all the stops late on, and she got the 3lbs allowance.. even so, I like this rider very much..
JC Rouget had 3 in the race, and this was his 2nd string... I liken Rouget to Gosden, in that where they have more than one runner, you can never be sure which is 'on song'.. |
By:
In Time runs today Meydan 4.20 gr. 2 Balanchine... looking to get placed I expect, but had a nice run back last time after 6 months off, over a trip too short..
I think a good e.w. chance.. I took 66/1 yesterday as I felt she's better than an unconsidered outsider.. I notice this morning it's half that price and lo and behold the RP have tipped it.. lol.. Best of luck to connections.. |
By:
Disappointing from In Time there today, every chance but faded badly.. not really up to this class, sorry to say.. backed right down to 3rd fav..
Flatten The Curve, a perpetual maiden, finally broke duck at Chantilly.. I like Eddy Hardouin, he's ridden it placed so many times... 7/1.. Roll on the turf.. 3 weeks to Saint-Cloud.. |
By:
The unusually named Lofsongur Islande was a nice winner at Pornichet the other day..
This week is interesting for me.. I have both Purplepay [Haggas] and Times Square [now trained in Australia] both running in the gr. 1 h'cap Coolmore Classic at Rosehill, Sydney on Saturday, over 1500m.. There are still 17 in the race, only 16 take part.. right handed track, shortish 2f straight.. I've been to Rosehill and it was lucky for me then, so I hope it is Saturday. Purplepay has been around, a long trip to make and Marquand is injured so a local jockey takes the ride.. I hope for a good show, I do think she has a chance despite the firmer surface.. gets weight from some of the others.. Either will do for me, but Purplepay is trained in Newmarket, and I see her on the gallops.. |
By:
I should add, Purplepay is already in Australia, training at Canterbury racecourse.. and will be ridden by Regan Bayliss, who has connections with Haggas previously..
Currently 22/1 .. |
By:
Well I give up, what was Haggas thinking of taking her all the way over for that.. I'd be very disappointed with the placements of this filly..
By:
Hopefully Rashford at Deauville this evening will make amends.. tricky little race though..
By:
Well Rashford won that alright, quite cosily in the end.. lots to look forward to with this one..
Crown Princess won her maiden recently having come up against a rather good sort in Pensee du Jour first time out.. Today, ZARAK has started the new turf season the right way.. with Haya Zark in the gr. 3 Prix Exbury at St. Cloud.. and an impressive winner at that.. old Skalleti had no answer but will likely come on for that run.. I imagine they will meet again in the Prix d'Harcourt.. The winner showed a good turn of foot there, I was very impressed.. I'd like to think he's better than gr. 3 but not shown this sort of form before.. Soumillon is unbeaten on Haya Zark.. 3 out of 3.. |
By:
Zagrey!.. what a great run today at Meydan in the gr. 1 Sheema Classic, 3rd to Equinox.. this is what they went over there for I think, hoping for place money - half a million.. Great ride too from Soumillon, well placed throughout, and suited to step up to 12f..
I knew he was better than 66/1, which was very nice though.. e.w.. he beat some good horses in behind.. Zagrey is my long term e.w. fancy for the Arc. on soft.. **** horses like it firm, usually.. Lofsongur Islande and In Time, Fontainebleau, Monday.. |
By:
..that was Japanese horses like it firm...

BEVAN - Done it again, well done.
![]() Only had a win saver and backed MORTON for a decent place bet. Had the collywobbbles going to the line ![]() If you hadn't noticed, first Zarak son off to stallion duties !! LAVELLO out of a Montjeu mare, sold or sydicated privately, to stand at Haras du Lion @ 3,500 euro. They are jumps breeders so you will have to wait and change allegiance to back his offspring. Robust German lines are all the rage in French jumps. https://www.racingpost.com/profile/horse/3831798/lavello/form I might try and get a £5 bet on an offspring winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2035. Must be at least 50/1 ![]() |
By:
Mr M... yeah I read about Lavello last autumn, I was surprised because I thought they could have got a decent flat win out of him as a 4yo.. still I'm happy that he's staying in Germany.
I got 9/2 Bevan ... go on Maxim !.. I love it when he's on them I admit.. Haggas up to old tricks again.. Purplepay runs in Gr. 1 Queen of the Turf at Sydney, Randwick Apr 8th.. wears blinkers and needs it very soft.. modest run last time at Rosehill on firm.. Sabio Cen [Chr. Head] finally makes a return to racing in class 2 event 7th April St. Cloud.. Iznik in the Prix Penelope Saturday.. running for place at best I should think.. up against O'Brien's and Fabre hotpot.. Don't mention the sire.. I think I mentioned it once but got away with it.. see ya .. |
By:
Oh good luck with your Chelt bet.. lol.. that's thinking ahead.. we got Bo Zenith at Aintree coming up.. I'll have to suffer it..
By:
no aftertiming. Is 2035 enugh time?
![]() ![]() Gringo du Berlais all oer he winner last time out until brought down on the flat ![]() Losses will be recovered today |
By:
Hourra !
Despit the jocks best effort - home and hosed. Only need 1 more win from next 4 runners to get back to the magic 20% in France. Had not noticed they were lumping flatt and jumps into the same stat. But I will take it. ![]() |
By:
went 11/4 on the sportsbook too. My £13 crushed it back into 5/2
![]() |
By:
exchange was 3.5 and sportsbook 11/4 when I struck my bet 23 mins before the off.
BF sp of 5.92 came from nowhere. I will need to lie down now for the rest of the day ![]() |
By:
*3 mins
By:
Oh well done Mr M.. we're on a roll.. I got 3's at SP.. I saw his first race and thought there's a race to be won with this one... wouldn't be surprised if he's off to Mullins at some point..
Bit of a John Wayne finish.. lol.. needs Townend.. |
By:
See how Iznik gets on against Pensee du Jour at St. Cloud.. it's only soft and I wish it was heavy, I think she'd have more of a chance.. I took 18/1 e.w. first 3..
By:
Iznik ridden to get a black type place. Nearly came off
![]() |
By:
Yeah, that's what they were there for wasn't it, shame, but a good run from Iznik, only a winner at Cagnes.. not impressed with Pensee du Jour, I don't think that's a French Oaks winner, O'Brien needn't be worried too much..
By:
Off topic, but thrilled to bits Billy Loughnane won the Brocklesby... no better way to start the flat.. I love his cheery smile and amiable demeanour.. he seems a lovely lad..and actually what a great ride that was to hold the horse together when it was wandering about and still got up..
Not just an all weather jockey with a claim.. |
By:
I have a big weekend coming up with Zaraks all over the shop.. Fri - Sun..
I'm having an interest in most of them even though I will be lucky to get a winner.. Friday.. I'll leave Happy Harry alone at Marseille as Reynier has 2 others better fancied.. Highwind and Karburan in the Prix Caracalla at St. Cloud... I've taken Highwind 9/4, but tricky little race with a couple others to beat.. I've just noticed Karburan has been backed from 10's into 7's.. I took 10's.. Marzouk in the Prix Empery maiden.. I'll take my chances because I liked him on only run last autumn.. Sabio Cen.. Prix Canot, St. Cloud.. I've been waiting for a year to see him again.. Pretty Tiger the one to beat also from a long lay off. I doubt Sabio Cen is better than gr. 2 but he gets a little weight. Le Selman runs in a maiden at Nancy, unraced, but I have a fancy for this one.. has an Aga Khan filly to beat.. Sunday, I have Baiykara, Haya Zark and Rashford at Longchamp.. I'm hopeful that's all I can be but will be doing them all.. Baiykara surely wants further, but the other 2 are in there for sure.. Randwick, Sydney Saturday. Ground is heavy but likely soft by then.. this will suit Purplepay and Times Square.. An Australian tipster gave Times Square.. both outsiders but I'm not letting them go.. could do with another downpour for these two.. Alcohol Free in the same race, going to be hard to beat.. Please give me, and ZARAK, at least 2 winners... ta.. Haya Zark, Rashford, Purplepay would be HUGE!.. |
By:
woo hoo ! Karburan just held on there... good ride by Veron.. Highwind unlucky, not clear run..
By:
I'm pleased with that return from Sabio Cen, running all over them with double handful but perhaps lack of race fitness told.. not great form, but he should go on to win some nice races from that.. surely a group winner in the making..
By:
No luck in Sydney but Times Square finished well enough in 7th, maybe a race to be run with her out there... what I think of how Purplepay has been placed, isn't printable.. I wish she had never left France..
Nice run from Marzouk yesterday as expected.. Longchamp Sunday, looking forward to that.. Le Selman coming up at Nancy... place at best.. |
