Having overcome Napoli against all odds in the second leg of their last 16 clash Chelsea will travel to Lisbon to face Benfica this week believing they can make it to the last four for the first time since 2009.
The market certainly think so. Chelsea go into the tie as 1.58 favourites to qualify, with Benfica 2.68. But to get anything out of this week's game, Chelsea will need to improve on their away record of W0-D2-L3 in their last five Champions League away matches. Those problems on the road, plus Benfica's outstanding record of just one defeat in their last eight home games against English opposition, suggest Chelsea's price of 3.3 to win on Tuesday night is justified.
Benfica at 2.44 and the draw at 3.35 look the smart picks in the match market, but goals are a stronger bet ...

We were right to predict goals in the first leg, and after seeing some of the defending and attacking on display in that game, high goals looks the smart way to play this time.
Zenit's 3-2 win was their sixth consecutive unbeaten game in the competition (equalling the Russian record set by Spartak Moscow 16 seasons ago) but Benfica are favourites to go through thanks to those two away goals. The Portuguese giants are 1.73 to reach the last eight, with Zenit 2.34, but the goals market has greater appeal than the odds-on hosts, who I think might nick a win.
I was surprised to find over 2.5 goals as large as 1.92 considering the way the two sides played in that first leg. There were plenty of chances, some lax defending...

United are level with Benfica on eight points, but should finish top of Group B if they win this match and probably avoid the big Spanish teams in the last 16. The club is W8-D2-L0 at home to Portuguese opponents, while Benfica have lost 9/12 on English soil, so Sir Alex Ferguson's team will be strong favourites to go clear at the summit of the group.
Nemanja Vidic is suspended. Eleven of the 12 goals United have conceded in the Premier League this season have come in his absence, but six of them came in one match - a match that embarrassed Ferguson, who has presumably been working his players extra hard on their defensive drills ever since.

Manchester United are a bit like newly-crowned US Open champ Novak Djokovic at the moment. When they go behind you always feel that somehow they'll find a way to win because they are that resourceful and have that much self-belief. I'm not sure too many teams could beat Manchester City from two goals down as happened in early August. But just like the 'Serbinator', more often than not they don't even need to worry about comebacks because they seem to go ahead from very early on and are brilliant front-runners.
That said, there are good reasons to oppose them here at odds-on when they face Benfica. The last time these two met, almost six years ago, Benfica came from 1-0 down to beat Sir Alex Ferguson's men 2-1 and in the process knocked them out of the competition....
