there was one definite almost two decades ago henry. it involved a sports bookmaker who had heavily layed a particular team to go through the season undefeated...... verrrryyyy heavily.... liability was between one and two million dollars and the payout would mean bankruptcy. particular sports bookmaker was also club member and member of clubs most important coterie group. Also highly respected and on first name basis with most of the players and club administration.
This was an extremely good football side and, in a 22 game home and away series, were undefeated after 21 games and final game was against mediocre club and expected to sh...tt in !!! The players at the club all knew what the bookmakers fate was if they beat their opponents in the last game !!!!
The game was played with the superior clubs champions all making disastrous mistakes throughout every quarter, a lot of those mistakes resulting in easy goals for the opposition. Chest marks were spilled, the ball was kicked out of bounds on the full, champion kickers were missing not only goals but targets around the ground by 20 metres and more, defenders deliberately pushing in the backs in opposition forward line...... it seemed like the whole team was in on it Wink One instance i can never forget was a brownlow medallist streaming through the middle of the ground and with an unmarked target on the edge of the 50 metre zone. It was a gimme he would kick the ball to the unmarked player, who would then shoot for goal. The champions kick went 10 metres to the side and 10 metres behind the target.... and straight on to the chest of an oncoming opposition defender !!! I couldn't believe what i was watching.... but half suspected before the game that this would happen, myself knowing what the situation was for the bookie.
The result of the game made no difference to the teams final position on the ladder, and the odds for them winning the premiership did not change after the game.
They won all their finals and the premiership by a near record margin for VFL/AFL football. That game was the only loss for the year.

i]the Tigers played "dumb" football during Saturday night's disastrous loss to Port Adelaide and failed to execute fundamental skills that a local team would expect to nail.

imagine the bookies relief when, in the last minute of the game, the star full backs kickout from an opposition behind.... saaiiilllls out on the full, and.... which opponent is standing closest to boundary, none other than that clubs gun centre half forward GrinGrin. And the subsequent shot for goal ......... SSSAAAAAUUUUUUSSSSSAAAAAGGGGGGGEEEEEEE.

How about those giants from the greater western region of Sydney.
From what i hear the whole region has been struck down by a serious case of AFL fever.
Apparently even weekend prayers in Cabramatta are being scheduled around giants games.
Incredible!!

Henry go back your conspiracy theory you tube video, you're off your rocker, I saw Richmond live a few weeks back and their skills were far worse than that of the Eagles several years back when they couldn't have hit the broadside of a barn from two feet away. I said to any of my mates who would listen that you would have to be possessed to be taking long odds on Richmond, so no, it wasn't any shock whatsoever to people who actually have some understanding of the game, clearly you have none.
By:

quite right lets.... tigers skills are close to the worst i've ever seen. Hardwick did a brilliant job getting the "best" out of them for last three years... he got them playing like he did, running hard, chasing hard and being very physical and that took them to the eight.... but behind every great side, for which the eight is just the starting point, is 18 of em doing not only that but doing all the skills along with it. Richmond were playing above themselves i reckon and now the hardwick motivation just isn't working.
..... and TINS, if you don't think match rigging can possibly take place in this day and age in team sports, i've just got two words for you 1. Bruce and 2. Grobbelaar ....... couldn't happen in a league like the english premier league could it !!!!
By:

clearly you have none...very correct none at all...

Conspiracy theories arise when betting  market expectations are not consistent with performance ..not outcome cause shorties get beaten often.

Yes a big elephant in the room and one which will always have purists hair out of sort.

their skills were far worse than that of the Eagles several years back when they couldn't have hit

Yet the line for the game was 21.5 against and deep into tomato sauce colour odds.

Richmond game was one of a few that had highly un expected results....

Each to their own opinions ....which is good.

so favorites being beat according to henry gives concern for match fixing..........................your off your rocker, no more short priced fav's have been beaten this year than any other year, are
you seriously suggesting that every short priced fav beaten in the last 30 years was tanking it.

as a matter of fact henry AFL match pricing prepost runs pretty will to script. eg....... the 1.25 chance will lose once every 4-5 games and so on, up and down the prepost game odds spectrum.

NOPE ...NOT WHAT HENRY SAID
so favorites being beat according to henry gives concern for match fixing

Actually specifically qualified that -

so favorites being beat according to henry gives concern for match fixing..........................your off your rocker

of course fav's being beaten arent always cause of matchfixing.

But to be clear and again clarify and simply repeat henry's written statement ;

Conspiracy theories arise ...when betting market expectations....are not consistent with performance.......

Please quote henry on the statement ,,,,conspiracy theories arising,,,,,,

But for the purists whose hair gets all frizzy with this elephant in the room topic lets let authorities know there is no match fixing or tanking in afl and they can save their many millions  of dollars in integrety units and corruption monitoring LaughCrazyWink

By:

When: 17 May 16 03:52
Very, one thing I can guarantee Hayne's already achieved a hell of a lot more on his short life than any of you lot ever will. How many chances like he took going to the US trying to get picked up by an NFL team have you ever taken???

My point is that it's far easier for an armchair critic such as yourself to criticise for no real reason than to get off your arsse and actually achieve something.
By:

When: 17 May 16 04:04
Lloydy no chance of Lucas getting a game any time soon unless there's suddenly a massive and unprecedented injury crisis, although Dom Sheed will be back in a few weeks which will further strengthen their midfield.
Eagles were better on the weekend a more consistent effort and they didn’t have the big drop off in effort and intensity that we've seen at times, if they can beat port this weekend and there’s no reason why they can't, the draw opens up for them and they can get on a roll and build some momentum and confidence if they can get their act together and Sunday was a step in the right direction.
Masten actually pulled his finger out on Sunday and was actually very good, easily his best game of the season and played to the level that we know he's capable of producing, Le Cras back in form, Kennedy outstanding, Gaff very good, Mackenzie gaining in confidence, McGovern terrific, Yeo bouncing back to form Priddis very good, Duggan really starting to come on again, Wellingham running into some good form again, there were some very positive signs on the weekend.
