If it's a dry track they may as well hand the Cup to Fame Game's connections now, the only possible danger is Preferment, the **** horse turned in one of the best Melbourne cup trials I have seen today and yes it was a trial in a 3million dollar Caulfield Cup, that's how confident they are of getting the prize in the big one.

Why on earth would you censor Jaap, bizarre even by betfair ludicrous standards of censorship, it's just short for Japanese.

Fame Game (JPN) - had to be steadied (have it’s head pulled off and be stopped in it’s tracks) near the 500m when (allegedly) tightened for room between Hauraki and Grand Marshal (or perhaps it was the ghost of Phar Lap). When questioned regarding tactics adopted in particular from the 800m, rider Zac Purton explained that his mount normally races back in the field (when we are tanking) and that he had been given instructions to look for runs through the field (and to ignore them) rather than endeavouring to circumnavigate the field (win). He added that he had difficultly at various stages in the straight in obtaining clear running (because that was against instructions) and that once clear passing the 100m he was (happy that even though he was on the best horse that he had artfully butchered it and now was) riding his mount out hands and heels to the best of his (acting) ability. The trainer(accomplice) Mr Yoshitada Manukata confirmed the instructions (to throw the race) and when questioned further, he clarified that the horse performs (a tanking) best when ridden through (behind, under, backwards or preferably all of the above) the field rather than the alternative (which ran the risk of an unfortunate victory). Both parties were advised that the instructions (to tank) and subsequently the manner in which the horse was (not) ridden today, cast (no) doubt in the Stewards minds as to whether the horse was ridden to ensure that it was ridden in a manner that it obtained the best possible placing (in the weights scale of the Melbourne Cup) and that they would expect similar instructions to be adopted in this years Melbourne Cup (Though they highly doubt it, and will certainly be advising mates to load up on him)

Brilliant Early Crow...just Brilliant!!!...
![]() ![]() *(my thoughts and no doubt thoughts of all when reading the article....) |
|
By:
very good but I basically said the same thing two comments earlier, that it was a 3million dollar trial, now that's arrogance.
|
|
By:
Its Earlycrow's comments in brackets that show brillance imo
|
|
By:
Yep as I said no doubt it was treated like a 3million dollar barrier trial, you would hope for their sake that Melbourne doesn't turn on some of its worst weather as it can at this time of the year, otherwise it was bloody expensive barrier trial

special thanks to the judge for alerting the southerners to the fabulous overs on Gust Of Wind !!! .. cheers champ lets hope she goes "all the way" I had a fair go on her, even 3rd would've been a good result, but run did nothing to change my mind about 3200 suiting her down to the ground. I will however be having a nice saver on the horse that used the CC to have a barrier trial in. |
|
By:
lol fair enough.... it seems, like earlycrower, that the 3 minutes 14 seconds that he took to carry 58kg to victory in japan has impressed you a bit !!
|
|
By:
Haven't seen any of his runs besides the CC
|
|
By:
All his runs in Japan were exactly like his run in the CC. It seems to like to race this way just like connections said. He drew barrier 1, what was it supposed to do?
Apart from 1 win as a 3yo over 2000m it has never won at 2400m or less. It won its last start in 2014 over 2500m by saving ground along the rail then weaving between runners to hit the front. He would of won by more if it didn't run off the track a touch. In it's last start in Japan the 3200m group1 race he raced midfield with cover. Winner came from last and made a move with about a 1200m-1000m to go sit up outside the leaders. Fame Game was shuffled back to worse than midfield. At the top of the straight he checked off heels to take a run between horses. Saw clear running with about 250m to go giving the winner about 4 lengths. Hit the line hard but ran off the track and probably cost itself the win as margin was 1/4 length at the line. Can see why it was early favourite as it's always hitting the line harder than anything in the race from group races of 2000m up to 3400m. Only negative is he has shown a tendency to run off the track in the straight and "have a look around" when he hits the front. He also may need a touch of luck in running with his preference to race with cover. |
|
By:
Fame Game consistently races against the best stayers in the world in Japan, only needs average luck and a dry track and the cup is over on its cc run, ran home in 11 secs and change for its final 200m and still wasn't fully clear. It was only just getting warmed up, Gust Of Wind is a nice mare but not in the same universe as this horse.
|
|
By:
Very foolish comment saying that about a mare thats just turned 4

Not being a gallops expert (although there are some on here who amazingly think they are experts on trots and gallops), I read through to get some insight into what I might back in the Cup. I came out of it with this:
Lets Elope • October 8, 2015 4:58 AM BST The japs will have to be very good to beat preferment in the Melbourne cup as he's airborne currently and still has room for improvement left in jim, he's a far mature horse now and wasn't entitled to win the Turnbull on the weekend after getting held shuffled back and then held up and only getting out when he did. I'm glad he did though, I thought he had to be favourite as his run in Sydney at his previous start was monstrous but thought I must have read it wrong when they bet $16 bucks and I stupidly waited until he came into 13 bucks before finally betting. Going to take a very good horse to beat him in the Melbourne Cup if he maintains his form and he's still looks to have further improvement yet. Lets Elope • October 21, 2015 2:33 AM BST Fame Game consistently races against the best stayers in the world in Japan, only needs average luck and a dry track and the cup is over Seems we will just declare everything close to unbeatable so we can spruik what an expert we are after the event!! |
|
By:
And, of course Fame Game is the one, any other race it would be 6/4 wouldn't it
|
|
By:
What sort of a miserable **** does it take to only come onto the forums to stalk 1 poster and post negative carp after negative carp?
Hmmm |
|
By:
Besides that, Derby Day will be much more thrilling.

bjt congratulations with Dothraki, its rapidly becoming one of my favourite horses of all time since its been gelded, 9 bucks last week.
Told you it just needed to become a tractable racehorse, helps when you've got a decent trainer, training it as well. Don't worry about AD, I don't, he's not even a spec on my horizon. |

Good luck, think you would be some sort of chance in that I'll be out there later that day to do the colour story on the Railway, closely monitor the track though over the next few weeks, last week was a a total fiasco. Thought you would take the easy route though and go for that 1400m race at the Magic Millions that should be money for jam for your horse.
|
|
By:
Drop off Terravista mate it was woeful first up and is not the same horse currently, coincidentally just like so many of Joe Pride's horses which suddenly can't lift their legs this season, make of that what you will, think you know what I am talking about.

TBH have watched about 6 races in the last 6 months. Know you are spot on with your race reads, so will take your word.. Won't drown the parade though, only a bad result will. A surprise nom in a faraway land in a race I wanted but didn't think would happen, so they think he is going ok as well. Just needs the right jockey.
Either way, all good fun, and will find out soon enough as there is not much more to achieve in these listed races. Constantly running topweight is no good. Rated 107 or so now so minimal options, and that is up. A handicap sprint is the go now. WFA ok for a test. Winterbottom was news to me, so got no comment apart from my own opinion, but can only imagine they are committing to the G2 on Derby Day as opposed to the listed 1200 on Cup day, as that won't justify a trip to Perth. Of course a trip like that doesn't need a result to commit, but hoping now they are at least on the same thought process and must now target against the best. No more dodging the big races at the start of the season. Horse well in front now so all fun times. Would love a funded trip to Perth though, regardless of what happened over there..... ATM horse running is more about prizemoney, so would love to take that away and bring it back to why I bought in in the first place, as a bit of excitement.... |
|
By:
fair enough still think a 1400m like that Magic Millions race is his for the taking or even the Orr early in the autumn would be ideal. Still, just had a quick look at the winterbottom nom's some nice horses entered but not totally beyond him, if he was my horse though I would be watching our track like a hawk and if there's any more problems there would be no way I would risk him but hey that's just me.

From where I sit, Perth is a long way off. I just think it is good that they are thinking big for a change rather than targetting all these "other" races.
I mean, they are sitting here telling us the Salinger (named something else this year I believe) is the target, but backup is a listed race on Cup day, yet have him nomd for the Winterbottom, which while may be a big race, is huge considering the trip to get him there. Whereas normally, they go safe option after safe option. Point is, I can't see him doing anything but running in the Salinger. I mean, what field could possibly scare him if the target is the Winterbottom? And that being said, I don't see him going to Perth if he doesn't win the Salinger. Or at least go very very close. So yes, would love to see him in the WB, but more so because it means more than likely that he has gone back to back and made me enough to consider making the trip. Either way, barring bad luck, he is flying, and given a good run, will be competitive in any sprint in the country, regardless of who is in the race.... If he does however make it there, look the fcuk out. :) Either way, have made it to fun times. Second up horse, running, umm, second up. My sister has my ticket allocation, and looking to make it 2 for 2 after his last Flemington run. If you are not having fun, you aren't living...... ![]() ![]() |

Absolutely bucketing down in Melb and set to continue for a few days. Have paid no attention to the horses in a while, but everyone tells me The Offer is a star in the wet. Have taken the 65s, do I have a prayer?

Absolutely bucketing down in Melb and set to continue for a few days
cheers Rhino .. others will know better about The Offer than me ... but at the odds its money for jam either way now Aiden O'Brien scratched and didn't bring one of his main Cup hopes cause he read somewhere the tracks here would be too hard luck 'o the irish I guess ![]() maybe aiden's others are swimmers .. they should be used to it |

Strong winds in melbourne 12.30 am sunday no rain expected until a drenching on wednesday. With the strong wind expect the track to be good...IMO
GOOD LUCK TO ALL PUNTERS Probably put half the field in trifectors etc. But my live chances i think are the japanese.trip to paris, snow sky, criterion, bondi beach. If the rain comes early (40 mil expected) and arrives tuesday before the cup, all out on the mudlark criterion. |

No rain sunday. Expecting 2 mil monday.. via weather channel

Hi henry ,
Preferment is the standout for me .Cant see anything as good @ the weights which will play its part but course form swings it here and a likable horse. Significantly Ryan Moore does not ride for his new stable which says alot about their runners but top weight not a likely winner of this. GL. |
|
By:
Think Criterion will love the 3200m and look the winner at least at some part of the straight. Hoping the right part.

Preferment is the standout for me
TOWF,,,funny was form assessing this afternoon and noted impeccable form followed by the usual pre-cup smoky run in the Cox .... What a training prep to the day.....3 Barrier trials in 30 days....21 Aug to 21 Sept...followed by its early in the prep win on the 4 Oct.....then of course smoky run at the Valley....only caveat is maybe the Turnball was not the strongest but what a strong win in any event...and from memory Cox and Mckinnon often the smoky runs....by Cup contenders....trying to recall previous Cox run Cup place getters... While on the once upon a time talk many will recall that a reliable "system" was fast finishing place getters in the Caulfield Cup (Gala Supreme comes to mind)....which puts Paris into big contention.... Curiously trying to think outside the square ,,,Max Dynamite come to mind in a big way...actually a jumper but the Galway (2nd place) was great race and has all that experience in those big fielded jumps (up against 18-19 other runners) so should luv any pushing and shoving....only caveat is might be running a bit fresh....so might not settle....unless it has had some decent workouts (which one would expect)... So at this moment my tip is MD |

Have a BIG KNOCK on Fame Game and will be laying it accordingly..on preparation...the Cup is second up off a 5 MONTH spell
Cant help but think it is being prepared for a latter race somewhere (probably 3400m) Off a 5 month spell it really does need one or even 2 more runs....any big effort asked of it for the Cup... runs the BIG risk of some type of damage Currently lay odds $4.8 ....IMO a lay is money for jam ..... |

anyone with Foxtel who missed the recent 1½ hours ... of all of bart's 12 cups .. there were plenty of fascinating background stories behind each horses wins ... well its on again after midnight for recording .. if you missed it .. def worth a watch
