The gap between the top 4 picks in this years draft and 5th-15th will be significant. Petracca, McCartin, Peter Wright and Isaac Heeney , are clear top 4's. (just a matter of order, 2 are midfielders and 2 are forwards)Collingwood's board won't sign off on the deal unless it's a very good deal involving a pick/quality player.
Remember in all these discussions. -he is contracted. -it is a sellers market. -Dayne will not screw over Collingwood and sit out next year. There is no bad blood between him and the football club. -In 2010, Dayne faced the real possibility of being charged in a rape case. -the club hired him a QC that top money could only buy. -the Beams family are on public record that they owe the club for life. -Connors is a Collingwood member. Without doubt he will separate business from pleasure but he isn't going to deliberately screw over the club he goes to watch each week. -it isn't up to Collingwood to get the deal done. -it is up to Connors and Brisbane to drive the deal. -Pick 5 is not a valuable draft pick. -that is why Swann is kicking up a stink about the Frawley compensation. -he knows Hine doesn't rate Pick 5 as being unique in this draft, those 4 above are the 4 best players in the draft and Heeney and Moore are considered next in his draft board. -to get quality, you have to give up quality. -even more when that player is contracted. |

Okay tear this one apart.
Swans Gain: Pick 4 & Patfull Swans Lose: Mitchell & Reid Lions Gain: Beams Lions Lose: Pick 4 & Patfull Pies Gain: Mitchell & Reid Pies Lose: Beams Swans gain a top end draft pick, and a good backman which they looked to lack in the Grand Final, and lose two players that were on the fringe for most of the year thanks to the depth of the Swans' forwards and mids. Most Lions fans acknowledge that it will take more than pick 4 to land Beams and in this scenario the something more is a player who has indicated his preference to leave the club anyway. The Pies lose their gun midfielder that they don't want to lose, but gain two players who are almost in the age bracket that Hine is talking about wanting. |
|
By:
Blions need to get something on top of Beams for pick 4 and Patfull. Patfull is a class defender. So maybe in a deal like this the Lions would get a lower pick in the top 20 as well as Beams.

WTF do North Melbourne think they are up to? They are offering Liam Anthony for trade. We gave them Robin Nahas, and Anthony couldn't tie up Nahry's bootlaces. We just put a sign on Nahas, "free to a good home." We didn't try to get something for him in a garage sale.
Get fair dinkum North Melbourne. Ffs. AFL: Ban the farce of a club from Elizabeth Arden Street from the first round of the draft for the next 5 years for bringing the draft into disrepute. F**king Liam Anthony, f**k me. |
|
By:
All these great ideas and none of them will come to pass. Trade week is a fizz every year. Teams want over the odds for every player they let go.

Fremantle drafting Category B rookie 196cm Sean Hurley from Ireland . Hurley tried out with the club last season , has stayed in touch and Freo going to draft him as a Category B Rookie . It is "understood" Freo are going to offer the Gaelic footballer a rookie spot . Good height and very mobile .

If the Eagles cut Tunbridge I will absolutely farking spew, how can you cut the kid, you need to play him for a number of full games to give him a decent crack. The kid can play he just needs to build some belief and realise that he is up to that level. For fark sake you re-sign Hill and Mcginnity both of whom are turnover merchants(McGinnity tries very hard but is verging on being totally skill less)and consider cutting Tunbridge, this bloke can kick, is a good mark and is hard at it and he's on the list of possible discards, what the fark is going on there.

Interesting WCE - Mitchell came out on Friday saying he wants to stay with the Swans, personally I want to see him on the field somewhere so if he can't get a game with us somewhere else is fine. Reid can go as well, too inconsistent
Interesting that Goodes has said he'll play on |

Frawley to the Hawks.

How can a premiership team fit him in the salary cap. What a rort.
|
|
By:
Mitchell has adopted his old man's attitude towards carlton... hated his time at carlton and has probably told the boy to stay with the strength.

looking forward to a big name going to a battling club as a free agent but won't hold my breath

There has never been as big of a gap between the top and bottom since Fitzroy were in the league as there was this year. Only going to get worse when you have the better players of the struggling clubs leaving to join the premiers. The 18 team competition simply isn't going to hold up long term. I am a fan of free agency, works beautifully in the US, but may not work here. Paul Roos is right in his assessment that the AFL may become akin to the English Premier League where only the 'haves' are capable of winning.
|
|
By:
I think it's the NFL version where you cant get a Free Agent if you finish in the top 4, something like that might help.
|
|
By:
like everything it's sinusoidal... works sometimes doesn't work othertimes. I would argue that Goddard and Dal Santo were both successes for the clubs (outside the top 4 and regularly outside the top 8)they went to.

looking forward to a big name going to a battling club as a free agent but won't hold my breath north melb was in this boat, no no 1 draft picks, a team on late first round or later draft picks, taken years to get up where they are, they are a club of battlers people like to put the boot in. a nice change to see a couple of older players sign up, though they aint cream players, waite, higgins |

By:
I would hardly call Waite or Higgins high profile players and if they think Waite is going to improve them significantly they're dreaming, how much you want to bet that he spends a heap of time on the sidelines through ill disciplined acts and injuries in comparison to his on field playing time and in relation to the amount of times when he actually plays well. Freo should be thankful he never came to them.
|
|
By:
You dont have a Clue Lets.
Freo would of been Rapt to get him to Help Pav. I wanted him to go o Freo as they have better chance than Freo and Next year is their last year of any Hope as when Sandi and Pav gone they will slide like Saints did |
|
By:
I also hope him all the Best for next 2 years or Hopefully more.
Very Good player Waite. Reads Ball so well and Brilliant Mark. Sad that we got 0 for him, could of at least allowed to Trade. Needs to be Culled to 12-14 teams before it ends up like English Prem Leuge 2 Teams Dominate, Next 3 then rest make up numbers |
|
By:
Change of club might be the best thing for him Lets. And as a 2nd or 3rd option, as opposed to the first, I think he'll be a great pick up. When he's on, which granted isn't all the time, he is a match winenr against the oppositions best defender, let alone their 2nd or 3rd. He's an X factor.

I'm a Waite fan, 2 years but ???......big big risk. That Herald/sun guy robertson said he was gone 5 years ago.

Waite is a VERY good pick up for North. Gives them the chance to take their time with big boy brown and not have too much pressure on him. All of a sudden their forward line looks game breaking.
People need to remember Waite has played in a side that has always been just ok, no forward in a side like that will ever be consistent. It seems some forget that. Put in a top side he would be a complete star |
|
By:
AD...add that waite always had the opposistions no 1 backman assign to him ass petrie did. once Tarrant comes back, who gets the no1 now?...great position to be in.
|
|
By:
Correct. Black will become a player too.
North look scary to me |
|
By:
I've been told they're no good.
|
|
By:
North are using it well, have to agree
|

By:
Collingwood making a huge play for greenwood, he has until 9am tomorrow to decide. mid year he was stating he owed north a lot for sticking with him in previous years. I wonder if he is thinking along those lines now.

What a Joke Melb get pick 3 for Frawley.
He was picked up 12th in the Draft is an Average Player and if was on Trade table would be 2nd or 3rd rd pick. Why should all the other Clubs Suffer because he gets to go to Grand Final team. If they offer 1st rd it should be after everybody gets a pick 1st then next pick not 3rd pick. Carl get 0 for Waite. Will be Interested what Syd get for Malseski being same age as Waite |
|
By:
Agree pick 3 for frawley is the AFL's way of giving Melbourne a politically correct or a clayton's priority pick. The real joke is that it's the highest compensation any club has ever got for a player so frawley's a better plaeyer than Ablett or Franklin and worth more than them, give me a farking break. Sick to death of this joke of a compromised competition, AFL but by name only. For fark's sake Eagles get out your check book everyone else does.
|
|
By:
He's not a better player than them but he's leaving a worse club, so they get more compensation. Not sure what that's got to do with it being AFL in name only.

No is it worth it? I've heard it's supposed to be alright, and knowing Coxy he can spin a good story, I'm waiting for one of my mates or family to give it to me as a Christmas present.

I haven’t read it so couldn’t say.
But here's an extract. RETIRED West Coast champion Dean Cox suspects at least 10 Eagles players experimented with drugs during the AFL club’s infamous fall from grace last decade. Although much of the focus of West Coast’s off-field shenanigans during 2006-07 focused on Ben Cousins’ drug addiction, Cox said the issue stemmed far deeper than just one player. Cox revealed the off-field dramas reached such a climax that it forced then-coach John Worsfold to call each player into his office to ask them directly whether they were either using or had previously experimented with drugs. “I don’t know the exact number of players who answered in the affirmative ... but I suspect it was in double figures,” Cox wrote in his autobiography Iron Eagle, which was released this week. Cox admits the turmoil caused some fractures within the player group. “That’s why it took so long to get all the players back on board,” Cox said at his book launch today. “The majority of the players were down one way, and there were a few down another path. “We were there for team success, and you can’t do it while doing a number of things the player group were going through. “Throughout ‘06 and ‘07 there became a real issue where things were privately done. “Everyone was so stuck to themselves. And then from there it really came to a head where things were really affecting the football club.” Cousins was sacked at the end of 2007 after his drug use spiralled out of control, while other players were put on notice that their careers were hanging by a thread. |
