Let's Elope (foaled in 1987 in New Zealand) is a Champion Thoroughbred racehorse in Australia.

Bred by Highview Stud in Hamilton, New Zealand, Let's Elope was a giant chestnut mare who in 1991 became the first mare in more than 50 years to complete Australia's famed Caulfield Cup - Melbourne Cup double (the "Cups double"). The last mare to complete the double had been Rivette in 1939.

By the Blushing Groom stallion Nassipour, out of Sharon Jane, she was a NZ$16,000 purchase at the 1989 New Zealand Magic Millions sale. Originally trained by Dave O'Sullivan for the Fleiter family, she was un-raced as a two-year-old but won her first start as a three-year-old in 1990. Despite showing above-average ability, her record in New Zealand was underwhelming, and, on the advice of her trainer, the owners accepted a NZ$150,000 offer for her. Her new owners, Dennis Marks and Kevin White, transferred her to the Australian stables of the “Cups King”, Bart Cummings.

Let's Elope was close-up in her first two starts for Cummings, and, while down the track in the wet at Caulfield, was a different horse on top of the ground. In a superb season, Let's Elope began a seven-race winning streak in the Turnbull Stakes, on the first weekend of October, took the Mackinnon Stakes and both the Cups, and returned in the new year for the Orr Stakes, the St George Stakes, and the Australian Cup, in course record time, on Labour Day in March. A fetlock injury then cut short her season, but Let's Elope had the 1992 Horse of the Year Award in her keeping.

She returned at five, and, while thwarted by wet tracks for much of the spring, won a match race with Better Loosen Up at Caulfield and was narrowly defeated by Super Impose in a classic Cox Plate (after the race, she was relegated from second to fifth for cutting off the unlucky Better Loosen Up). Ten days later, Let's Elope was one of three scratchings from the Melbourne Cup. After a bleeding attack in the Japan Cup, Let's Elope continued her career in the United States.

Conditioned in the U.S. by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Ron McAnally, Let's Elope won a minor race on debut, and was first past the post in the Grade I Beverly D. Stakes in front of Flawlessly before being relegated to third - under American rules, she was relegated for simply causing interference, not because the third horse would have beaten her home. The recurrence of a bleeding attack and a fractured cannon bone forced her retirement at the close of 1993.

At stud, Let's Elope has visited some of the world's greatest stallions, including Storm Cat, and, while considered slightly disappointing, has produced the stakeswinner Ustinov (by Seeking The Gold), who was placed in a number of Group One races and Outback Joe (by Elvstroem) winner of the 2014 Adelaide Cup.

Cairns Amateurs Cup Day - I've only been once but will definitely go again.  Hot weather means the girls don't wear very much, cider a plenty to be had, winners to be found. A great day out

Ripping days racing coming up at Rosehill as well with the Theo Marks, Kingston Town, Sheraco and the Golden Rose.  The track was heavy at acceptances but the weather doesn't look too bad so i'm thinking it will be an improving slow by Saturday

Great to see Better Land get a start in the Golden Rose - was going to cruise to victory last start before it got run off the track a couple of times - massive each way chance

Apart from that I'll do my form on Saturday morning like normal

I have a very casual look at your homework which you handed in earlier this week.

More is expected from you so please re-submit at least for the main races...eg.

Backed Dissident, saved on Spillway , P D Lune, and Sertorius at their last outings and Boban looked well the other day too.

How can newbies be inspired to apply themselves if you find a mile race tough to assess and do so in this manner.

Flem Race 7-Maybe Diva

An obvious observation is that it is being used as a stepping stone to longer journeys by many in it. 

Good preparation for a mile usually involves one or both last starts over the mile (regardless of placing). No horse satisfies that criteria.

PDL -2 starts over 1400 is next best preparation…….although being prep’ed for the mile and a quarter races he could have almost won this race last year with only one 1x 1400 under belt.

Boban coming off similar prep to when he won the Chipping Norton (1200-1400).

Messene is stepping up but I think his style, pulls a bit, will do him no favours at the end of the mile.

Dissident did win 1600 on the same prep -1200-1400.

Most interesting is Don Doremo…His dad being the exciting 3 year old Don Eduardo.

Dissident probably not suited to latter race distances coming up so he will be happy to leave nothing in the tank at the end of this race….and therefore has to be top pick with PDL who will after this one be the horse of greatest interest this spring. Boban tends to find problems (3 wide/no clear run etc)….makes him often a worry.

All obvious comments so cant really assist further....

The more you look at the Makybe Diva 1600m the worse a punting race it looks to me lol

Plenty of reasons to have concerns over many of the runners tho the 3 that just put themselves in are Dissident, Boban & Puissance

harsh value Dissident for mine after its last start luxury but probably takes the sit on Messene and only needs one ping to put the rest at a disadvantage chasing him ... spesh if he shoots 2 in front halfway down the running with the explosive burst he has ... but it'll be a hard ask for me to take 2/1 which he will prob start at

boban for all the reasons mentioned before & Lets summed it up well with you'd wanna see him put one in first and ping like the Boban of old else he just had that one unbeatable campaign where he was so dominant ... but 3rd up you'd have to think this would be the race to see something if its still there

and Puissance who Henry has summed up well to be heading for the Cox you'd think ... getting the final shot at Dissident but the timing of Puiss's run seems more important than his finishing charge so can Brad do a Bossy and have him possied to do it

these 3 dominate the market percentages but leave me cold punting wise ...

so for a bit of fun and an interest in the race i'll prob just back Green Moon the drum lol hoping for about 10's the place with not much damage done if it doesn't do squat ... which is very possible with this aged enigma entire who maybe should be thinking of other things now ... but i like him as a horse so who knows
